do you believe in racial memory---or carl jung's collective unconscious? (1013 views, 21 replies)
Nope. I believe the only thing limiting our free will is society's artificial constructs, overlaid on our primitive, baser psyches by repeated indoctrination. I further believe that construct is seeking to limit us more and more every day in the name of "civilization", but it's really only a mechanism vying for greater control of the masses by those in power.
I further believe that psychiatry is not a real science, full of quite a few BS theories inspired by too much laudanum, opium or drink. Medicine is science; psychiatry is mostly quackery, evidenced by the fact that so few people are ever actually "cured".
@TRCIII ask the insurance companies, most of them see psychiatry as a medical thing they pay for.Maybe you don't think insurance exists either.
@clarachan1355 Actually, I think insurance SHOULD be abolished, since it artificially drives up the cost of some medical procedures, AND the insurance companies now participate in the process of deciding what care you are allowed to receive, regardless of what your care provider recommends, often to the detriment of the patient.
As for the other, I didn't say it didn't exist. I said it's not a science. If it were a science, you could do psychiatric counseling X and get result Y or sometimes Z, and you could place a percentage on the amount of times that "procedure" will cure the patient.
But some patients remain in therapy for years, never get better, never have a breakthrough.
Psychiatrists can't even decide what insanity is, and can't reliably test to see if a person is sane or not. Until '84, being gay was a psychiatric disease. Whether being transgender is an aberrant (potentially curable) mental condition is still a point of debate in some circles.

@TRCIII OK, we'll go back, tell our professors, and the Dean, its not a science it belongs in EMBROIDERY and knitting. And that they are throwing away more than millions of $$$$ on it.I am sure those huge endowments will be refunded.-
-The FED GOVT.will stop supporting PSYCHIATRIC MEDICINES RESEARCH.and so will drug co.s.
Everyone on "meds" for severe mental stuff will stop taking them, and then we'll REALLY HAVE people wandering all thru streets, night & day,off any medication.-
-The police will love all the increased incidents, and I am sure everyone would stop paying taxes and insurance.--But it might be a real problem and the county jails would be full to bursting for some time.
But,since none of this mental stuff is solid in the medical world, everyone will BE FINE.--AND fairies will fly outta my butt!!HAH HAH!!
@clarachan1355 You keep making assumptions about the things I'm saying, in conjunction with psychiatry not being a science. I don't say there's no such thing such thing as mental illness. I'm saying psychiatry is not yet fully-formed or mature enough to agree on what it is consistently, or how to reliably cure it.
I also didn't say there was no value in trying to do "something" for the clearly, dangerously insane, even if it's only to lock them away and "calm them"--which psychiatry has accomplished, during my lifetime, through ECT, pre-frontal lobotomy and a whole host of zombifying psychopharmacological tools, which were later (after years of destroying minds) declared to be barbaric.
Were those "cures"? No. Is psychiatry better? Yes.
Can the majority of psychiatrists agree on a diagnosis, cure it a large percentage of the time with an accepted, repeatable procedure or test? Will an MMPI or psych eval tell you 100% whether a person is mentally ill or not? In most cases, no. Hence, no science.

FREE WILL IS A JOKE.NO ONE has free will!many things you get stuck with, are already decided even before you're born.
OK,suppose your "free will" told you, you should have been born as a DOG,and you want to live your life doing just what dogs do.ARE YOU THEN A REAL DOG?And will the world go along, and let you consider yourself a dog,or will they just put you in a state hospital?--And not ever let you out, until you start behaving like a human? We are born into such fixed states of being, our lives are often already pre-determined.
Do you even know what your fate would be,if,as a kid,you wanted to become RICH as an adult?Do you REALLY THINK you could become rich as an adult?--And your free will would do that? They now have statistics that can predict we usually stay in the social-financial class we are born into,in the USA.Hardly any one moves up to rich.In the PAST that was possible--not now. Now,there's very little wiggle-room as to social-fin. classes in the USA.--Everyone stays in the one they born into.

@clarachan1355 i'm sorry to be so harsh;but we did STUDIES ON THIS.we even found, if you had "unusual trauma" it had a lot to do with how mentally ill you would be as an adult.Even severe stuff that happened to you as a kid, affected your adult mental state. --therefore, how you functioned.
I still remember a lot of this "small study",it was depressing how much what OTHER PEOPLE did to you, very early,a baby,a tot, could severely hamper you with problems as an adult.(I only got into "cognitive therapy",i forget about "racial memories."")wanta refresh us?
I decided not to major there,it was too DEPRESSING.OK,no more, "knowledge can also be very painful" not just helpful.--Ugh!!
even family mental problems would continue, for ages, and wouldn't be "fixed" just passed on.I couldn't handle it,i don't know how mental practitioners handle it,they often need a big sense of humour.

I googled racial memory and carl jung's collective unconscious to have some understanding. I defiantly believe our subconscious rules us without our being aware and that we send traumas and unacceptable thoughts there. Ever notice how obvious other peoples actions are but yet they would fight to the bitter end if you were to bring it to their attention? We are the last to see ourselves realistically. - On a different note, I wonder if the collective unconscious theory would have anything to do with what it says in the Bible: The sins of the fathers shall be visited upon the sons.
@laurie621 I've never known if my understanding of that was correct. What I took it to mean was in two different ways. One was that we always emulate our parents, in many ways. If our Father is a an inconsiderate man , it is likely that we will be also. There is another saying.."The apple does not fall far from the tree". The other way was that the things that our fathers do often leave us in worse shape. If our Father is a rapist, or theif, or murderer...our life is going to be considerably harder, as a result. We won't grow up normally, will have strange opinions about things, and society will treat us as though WE also are guilty of such crimes. That was MY take on it...anyway.
Yes I most certainly agree with you bondojoe.. But does it go deeper (genetically)in some aspect we cannot comprehend. I've known children that never knew their blood parents that had personality traits of them and it blew my mind. The Bible has a lot to say about blood. I'm just throwing thoughts around .. things that I find curious but do not have a firm knowledge or belief of.
@laurie621 I understand what you're saying. I'm so much like my father that it creeps me out! I'm sure that it goes deeper than se will ever understand. That's what racial memory is. The boble DOES place a lot of importance about blood. And This may sound odd, but I have known people that had orgam transplants, and heart operations with blood transfusions, and were never the same person again. It's like their personality changed.
Interesting for sure bondojoe, about the trasfusions and organ transplants. The Bible says something about the life being in the blood..not the blood gives life, and we are not to drink it... Think of how devil worshipers supposedly eat flesh and drink the blood of people in order to have visions and power from the evil one.

They are similar in nature...but not the same. Do you believe in either one? And if you do, does that limit our free will?
