@Vanessa04 I read the original trilogy back in 2008. How would you compare "The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes" to those? (I've not read it.) 
@DontSpeak Well, The ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is about Young Snow before he becomes president. And along the story you see how the hunger games evolve towards the one in the original trilogy.
@Vanessa04 I'm curious how you feel about the writing in terms of engaging you as the reader compares to the trilogy, for you?
I am thinking of buying it, as I have the others and found the trilogy much better than the films, although since I read them, I also feel they enhanced the films for me.

The narrative style is different with a third person point of view, as opposed to the first-person narrative of the original trilogy and I thought it was an interesting change. I feel like The ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is more a character and Panem study and so it has a slower pace than the orginal but it didn't bother me at all.
I did the same, read all the books before watching the movies and I agree with you they are much better than the films. But I really liked watching the movies as well.
@Vanessa04 Thanks so much! I'm going to order it based on your summation. I'm sure reading it beforehand will provide me with the same sort of feeling of "fullness", that I got in reading the trilogy and then watching the films.
I can only hope the acting will carry the story adequately on screen.
@Vanessa04 I just read the IMDB and few of the other articles about the making of TBSS...
With Viola Davis and Peter Dinklage plus a few classic under-appreciated character actors, this is going to be amazing!
