What is the reason you are using them?

@18635fdgd When you say, using "them" do you mean xp? If so, it's because I got it really cheap many years ago and I don't really have the money to update because I live on a very small disability pension.

@michael59 if you can put up with a tiny watermark on the desktop, just download a win 7 / 10 iso direct from microsoft. it`s free.

@michael59 I just checked it out. The video is unavailable. At least that's what it said inside the big black rectangle. Anyway.

@michael59 Worked fine for me. the general gist of it is that you can install a version of windows which is fully functional except you have a watermark in the bottom right of your screen by the clock that says "this version of windows is not activated" if you can put up with that ( loads of folks do) just do it. i wouldnt use a windows xp machine online for anything now, it`s not had any security updates for years and isnt really online safe anymore.

@Stickmanuk I wonder why it worked for you? Maybe cause you don't need it? lol That's just weird, it does not work for me.

I'm a greenhorn when it comes to techy stuff, Stickmanuk. I have tried to install stuff from win 7 and up but it does not work. I think I would have to clear my tower of all xp software before I can even try to download win 10. Then what if I can't get it to work? I also don't have a disc burner. Just a tower, keyboard mouse headset and monitor. I don't even have a printer. smiley

xp software came with the tower when I bought it so, I don't have the disc to reload it. That would mean I have nothing to use.

Okay, so here's the weird part. I used to be able to stream on mixdrop if I used Google Chrome browser. Suddenly, about a week ago, every time I tried to get to a mixdrop show that I wanted to stream, I get this weird prompt from chrome saying that the clock and the date on my computer is wrong and therefore chrome can't connect me to mixdrop because it's unsafe. The date and time is not wrong on my computer it is correct.

I tried everything I can think of...

reloading/refreshing the page
reset from chrome setup
deleting chrome from my computer and downloading it again
shutting down computer and restarting it
system restore
checking for rootkits
running revo uninstaller to check for malware

I was wondering if someone who still has xp software would mind trying to do what I do by copy/paste a link for mixdrop from here and then, using chrome browser, see if you can get through to mixdrop site or if you get the same prompt as I am getting.

See, I am wondering if it is just google messing with me because it wants me to purchase a newer software so I can update browsers or if I picked up a virus or maybe some malware.

@michael59 Hello, Here are some decent instructions.

1. Open Chrome and visit the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool web page and it will offer the tool for download. (this is supposed to be a link to the microsoft webpage, if it does not come up just type-Windows 10 Media Creation Tool web page- into your search bar and it will show you)

2. Press F12 to open the Developer Tools pane. Click the “Customize and control DevTools” button which is the three dots at the top right of the DevTools pane. Select “More Tools” > “Network conditions”.

Chrome network conditions

3. In the User agent section, uncheck “Select automatically”, click the drop down menu and select a user agent that is not Windows. Pretty much any Android, iOS, Blackberry or Mac string will work, including Googlebot and ChromeOS.

Chrome user agent googlebot

4. Keep the DevTools pane open and refresh the page (F5), it should now show the disc image page. Select the edition from the drop down, it will show the latest Windows 10 version and possibly the previous version as well. Click Confirm.

You are welcome and it was not all that much time. Even tho I have done this install several times I still get the instructions and follow them. You Will need a flash drive, 16GB might do it, a 32GB will definately work. Plus there are plenty of YouTube videos that walk you through it in detail. It only seems intimidating because you have not tried it yet, making a successful souffle is much harder.

@Wander That was kind of an important detail, I don't understand why you left that part out. I have about 100 reasons why that's never going to happen. smiley

Thanks anyway.

@michael59 The need for a flash drive(USB)is in the first set of instructions. In this economy, with so many people struggling to meet their basic needs, it is pretty glib to suggest to someone that they just replace their old computer. I feel your frustration, I hope you find a good solution soon.

One issue no seem to have mention is if your computer came with XP it may not have a processor and enough RAM that can handle going up to 10! There is always the option of installing one of the free Linux versions they can run on slower processors and less RAM. Just a thought hope it helps.
