I think we can be seriously naive at times b/c we underestimate how deeply historic and cultural traditions run in other nations. We get away with a lot b/c we are extremely powerful but there are more than a few times I've been asked by friends and distant family who live in other nations about of the behavior of our chief executives - mostly when we went into Iraq and now our current POTUS. Europeans seem to think that there are some problems that simply can't be fixed - only managed to minimize the damage they cause - and they find our idea that we can fix anything a bit strange, sometimes dangerous, and sometimes just plain old bat-sh*t crazy.
