Do you favor Nationalism...or Globalism? (843 views, 15 replies)
People that need other countries and don't have anything to offer on their own will say globalist
Anyone with half a brain that comes from a self sustaining, prosperous nation will say nationalist
@BrunoAxemaker I doubt if we will get any responses from Liberals that are quich to attack Nationalism...in the news articles that we post. They act like standing up for your country...like PATRIOTISM...is a BAD thing!
@bondojoe That’s because it’s closely tied to regimes like the Third Reich and jingoism. There is no way around that. Some words just have negative connotations and that word is one of them. Patriotism would be a better word to use instead. And America isn’t just English and Scottish people. Tell that to the Italians, Poles, and Jews. America has always been a melting pot. Now it’s trying to be something else, not the other way around. You guys are going to have a civil war. There is no peace coming for the US. The rhetoric does matter. Words matter, and eventually they become actions, and, in fact, mail bombs and massacres have already set the whole bad scene in motion. It’s only going to get uglier and your president is fuelling it instead of being dignified and a big enough man to try to heal it. I’m really afraid for you guys. Plus, you all have guns. I’m just going to keep praying.
@ditzygypsy Do you know what a melting pot is? It's where things combine to form one thing. A house divided cannot stand. We have always welcomed new Americans, if you wish to bring the failed ideology of the country you left, why don't you stay there instead? I cannot uderstand people who leave one sh@thole, only to build another somewhere else.
Words do matter, but not as much as actions. If you support the idea that people aren't responsible for their actions, because of words, you are weak minded indeed. You also must support burkas, because all those women's bodies, "eventually they become actions" to quote you.
As for our President, please remember ONE thing. Nobody on the left hated Trump before he broke their panorama. The hate is ALL manufactured. The sheep have been roused, and they will be prodded until the left gets its way. I LOVE the fact he fires back! The left is so used to spouting their bullsh@t, and getting away with it that they are throwing tantrums.
@ditzygypsy I think our president is helping to keep our diversity with his actions, and his words...but that's just MY opinion. Diversity means DIFFERENCE...not homogeny. I'm going to keep praying too.
@bondojoe I will say this, If I travel I want to see the traditions and values of "That" Country NOT the same as what is at home- I want to see different cultures and try foods and appreciate their Traditions etc.. which makes our world Beautiful! So Independence to me is a Beautiful thing! If All the world was the same it would be a boring place without travel diversity etc..
I am a Nationalist. As an American, the only way I would ever be a Globalist, is if my rights were globalized. I will live under NO law other than the constitution.
I don't know what you people think Globalism or Nationalism are but here are some short definitions you could start with:
Nationalism - first of all this is a phenomenon which has its roots in Europe and although peoples of pre-colonial Asia, Africa, Australia & the Americas had similar concepts, what we understand today as Nationalism comes mostly from the European understanding of it; most historians and political scientists place the birth of the idea of the sovereign Nation to the Treaty of Westphalia of 1648. Although this is disputed - some place the birth of the idea itself before the signing of the Treaty - most agree that that was the first time the sovereign Nation State as we know it today was first defined in an official document. We can talk about two concepts here which can be confused: first, the Nation - a cultural concept which appeared before the Westphalian Treaty in the Renaissance at a time when most Europe was a place of many city-states which claimed authority on territories not based on Nationhood or kinship of any kind but on the right of conquest. According to the Renaissance idea a group of people who live in different territories but speak the same language and have a shared culture are a Nation in itself. The other concept is the Sovereign Nation State which is defined as the authority which claims absolute legitimacy in exerting power over the peoples of certain territories based on shared language and culture and it was first defined in the above-mentioned Treaty. In short, the Nation is a group of people and the Nation State is the authority which exerts power on a peoples and claims sovereignty on the territories upon which said group of peoples live.
