UK, London.. I was at ground zero in Peckham, that's a poor area in London. I was there because the Forest Hill Sainsbury's closed down, water main burst and it was a river there. waiting extra long times for a bus.. to get there and back, the bus was full at 10am...everybody was going to that Sainsbury. I was there because my Sainsbury's home delivery last Friday, booked a week in advance, consisted of one bottle of lemon juice/65p. The rest of my £50 of groceries was out of stock.
Online grocery shopping... there are no guarantees.Iceland is a little shop in Peckham that specialises in cheap frozen food. With a few bits.. they don't have coffee filters. And it was crazy.. across the street was a pound shop that had closed the doors.. too much rioting outside. You couldn't turn around in the store without bumping into people, everyone on top of each other. 4 check out lines all the way to the back. But it's a small store so I felt better about being there instead of the larger Morrisons. I just hate the outlay of that store.

Look on the Bright Side of Life ...

Some friends of mine ended up with a snake when his owner moved out leaving the serpent behind.

Not really knowing what to do, and not wanting to let the snake starve, they got some live mice and tossed them in.
The snake ate all of them except one.

So they left him in there figuring the snake would eventually get hungry.

A couple of months later, the mouse was still doing fine, and now would sleep on the snakes head.
So they got some more mice and put them in the snake tank.
Sure enough, the snake must have been hungry as he ate all of those mice.
He still wouldn't eat that one, who still slept on the snakes head.

At this point they realised there wasn't anything rational about this situation, the snake was not going to eat that one particular mouse.

They named him lucky and upgraded his status from Leftovers to Snake Pet.
I'm not even sure if the snake had a name.

The news called it panic buying instead of preparing, which caused people to both prepare and not prepare at the same time. I loaded up on groceries around the end of January, back when people thought it was going to be a joke. I packed everything carefully and stuffed it inside my big freezer. Got canned foods. I haven't had to go back to the grocery store since. Just checked my supplies, I'm good. I have heard that the stores in my area are empty, but I haven't been to them because I PREPARED, not panic bought. My toilet paper is not going to expire but at the same time, I didn't buy hoards of it. I got a bulk pack. The only thing I regret is not getting the supplies to jar my own stuff because I like to watch survivalist youtubers. Being able to pickle stuff would come in handy right now. I haven't gotten cabin fever yet because I'll leave the house around 3am when no one is around, or 7am now that nobody is going to school. I only see a few cars sometimes when I'm out. I've been binge watching disaster movies from several countries because I've seen most of the top American ones. I'm having a super time to be honest. I feel bad for people who are at risk though, it made me think, I would probably be super scared if my dad and mom and all the grandparents were still here. The rest of my family is also dodging the cough cooties well, for now. Hopefully we stay that way.

@Buttless also bear in mind at the time of 1918 the global population was estimated to be 1.9 billion. its current estimated size is 7.77 billion so if know basic math you can see, exposure to death rates are extreme polar opposites. but don't take that to mean that i find any death unimportant; i just see side by side compare the 2. this current disease aint even a tickle and hopefully it will slow growth.

@chaz1014 You could say that from an economist's point of view it will be beneficial medium-term because Covid-19 mainly kills the frail and elderly, reducing a loss-making sector of the economy.
But these victims are people with families who miss them.
We will see the results of government policies in statistics for deaths, if anyone is taking bets put me down for USA 700k, Canada 20k

For anyone that is living under a rock & has yet to realize the US Prez Pl-UMP is an idiot I give you an article written by Nancy Cook & Matthew Choi published on 28 February 2020. The earlier stages of the virus crossing the globe & people becoming worried.

Charleston South Carolina: President Donald Trump on Friday night tried to cast the global outbreak of the coronavirus as a liberal conspiracy intended to undermine his first term, lumping it alongside impeachment and the Mueller investigation.
He blamed the press for acting hysterically about the virus, which has now spread to China, Japan, South Korea, Iran, Italy and the U.S, and he downplayed its dangers, saying against expert opinion it was on par with the flu.
“The Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus. They're politicizing it! They don't have any clue. They can't even count their votes in Iowa. No, they can't. They can't count their votes. One of my people came up to me and said, ‘Mr. President, they tried to beat you on Russia, Russia, Russia.’ That did not work out too well. They could not do it. They tried the impeachment hoax.”

@darose16 given the total numbers of flu cases to death toll during bad seasons, i think his point was and still is some people are over reacting. that is still a valid point. that doesnt mean he doesnt take it seriously, just means he refuses to over react and cause mass panic. heck even the spanish influenza of 1918 was like 200 or more times worse than this present illness. and from my perspective, his point was as leaders we should not be freaking out to the extreme like some were and still are.

@chaz1014 i think his point was and still is some people are over reacting

I fail to see why you should feel the need to come up with an interpretation of Trump's words.

If the guy was Shakespeare then maybe you may need to interpret his speeches because of their linguistic complexity or metaphoric content.

But he isn't. Never has been, never will be.

He is never open to interpretation. And this is a huge problem of his followers. They make excuses for his "interpretations of the truth".

It is pretty clear to anyone with a brain - he was blaming the Democratic Party for propagating the Coronavirus HOAX.

And he did this, not to evade mass panic, but to politicize the tragedy and continue his election campaign while NOT dealing with the impending crisis.

@..box.. i think you need to read my first comment to him, then he chooses to imply i'm an idiot just because we have differing opinions? he seems to think trump in february was not taking the covid seriously, just because he refused to get on board with other people that started as he felt an over reaction too early to tell. so yes i called him on his personally insulting me; regardless of my mod status, because i would call anyone out on bad behavior and insulting of any member here. and yes i did make it a point to mention it took guts to insult a mod. you and i may have differing viewpoints my friend but even you can see the vast difference between mocking a user on the site versus mocking political figures. and personally yes i heard him early on calling covid a hoax, but in my mind i took it to mean it was and is too early to classify something as a pandemic. its to that, that i honestly feel he meant was a hoax. ...

@chaz1014 I wouldn't want to make a twosome into a threesome BUT ...

I did as you suggested and had a look at your previous exchange on this thread. I could only find these comments where you respond to a reply directed at Tazz ...

Am I missing something here?

Speaking about the pandemic status of the coronavirus, let us remember a quote by President Trump ...

"President Trump on Tuesday said that he realized that the coronavirus outbreak was a pandemic before the World Health Organization (WHO) labeled it as such last week.

"This is a pandemic. I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic," Trump said at a press conference with his coronavirus task force. "All you had to do was look at other countries."

#Trump - "I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic." #coronavirus #COVID19 pic.twitter.com/CIiVL5xKeU
...
"

Source: thehill.com/homenews/administrat...

From this admission, it would seem that President Trump "felt" it was a pandemic but willingly and intentionally played down this knowledge.

This would suggest that he was claiming it to be a hoax, yet he "felt" it was a pandemic.

Interesting.

So today in London, all the banks are observing a 10am to 2pm hours. Rymans the office supply, like a Kinko's in the US, and business services are closed indefinitely.

So did anyone get paid in the US? No one I know did, even out of work hospice care.

I do have a second cousin, that would be my cousins daughter, on a breathing apparatus in Georgia.

My sister is married to a fundamentalist preacher and they hold services every Sunday. She is coughing like a banshee. She says pollen and you can't tell her different. She will not stop working 40+ hours a week (AutoZone is still an essential company that has to say open.. people have to drive and need car parts.) They have free masks there but she never ever wears a face mask.

Walking round in London is so different. If you have to go out.

What is happening right around you? 🦎

They is a rumor going round on the net that Lefty's want Boris to die (how many people
have been saying this i don't know, it could just be one or two people wishing he dies).

And one last thing, the shop near me had no 4 packs of toilet roll in, only the 18,s
