Corona Free Radio is a safe space where one can ... listen to music, upload videos, relate anecdotes (perhaps recounting why the song has meaning for you), upload music related images and generally wallow in all things musical.

The only requirement in NOT to mention the CoR*Na*iRuS.

And because of the day that is in it, we are offering some music from the shores of Ireland that you may or may not like ...

First up is a band that was my very first live gig (12 years old) and they sounded a bit like this ...

Next up we have the majestic Thin Lizzy with ...

And finally from the movie “Rattle and Hum” by U2 ...

The microphone is open and we are waiting your calls or comments.

And after all that testosterone, time to pump up the oestrogen levels with a song for all the mothers, sisters, daughters, wives, girlfriends, nieces etc ...

The classy arrangement combined with Dolores O'Riordan's vocals makes Linger a universal gem ...

And to end this three in a row we have Ms. O' Connor singing some Prince ...

... list is three in a row from the films of John Carney (born 1972), an Irish film director, producer, screenwriter, and lyricist who specialises in musical dramas.

He is best known for Once (2007), Begin Again (2013) and Sing Street (2016).

Falling slowly from Once

Lost Stars from Begin Again

Going up from Sing Street

With a feel good factor - A great binge watch for the times that we live in.

As a teenager, growing up in Ireland in the late 70s and early 80s, W.B Yeats was obligatory academic material for the public examinations.

But as an economic migrant, this recording (music by The Waterboys and reading by traditional Irish vocalist Tomás Mac Eoin) brought home a bit closer me.

Times have changed.

Traditional Irish Music in Movie Soundtracks

Mna na hEireann (Women of Ireland)” from Stanley Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon, which was part of the Oscar winning Best Soundtrack in 1975.

Another traditional air “Limerick's Lamentation” was used throughout the Coen brother’s Miller’s Crossing from 1990.

And finally from the film Brooklyn (2016), a poignant scene featuring the singer Iarla Ó Lionáird.

And for our final selection from the vaults, we drift back in time.

Before penning “Lady in Red”, Chris deBurgh knew a thing or two about storytelling and song writing and in the 70’s produced a trilogy of albums (Spanish Train and Other Stories, At the End of a Perfect Day and Crusader) that at their heart mixed stories of times past with eternal emotions.

Patricia the Stripper

Spanish Train

Crusader

Perfect Day
