How many pets do you have? Tell us about them! (1864 views, 117 replies)
I have had a Persian cat ,Kirby and he is missing now.

I opened the door and turned around for some reason and he was gone in a blink of my eye.
Turkish Van male puddy tat. Chesapeake Bay Retriever b**ch. they are Benny & Cocoa, respectively. both are rescues. Benny is the most perfect Van I've ever seen, so sad someone would have to give him up.
@Unreconstructed lol, brain police still at it. also, neighbors have Rhode Island Red chickens. one rooster in particular spends all afternoon in my yard & he follows me when I'm outside. would he be a semi-pet? I'm fine with it. always had a thing for redheads, but prefer females & either orang or human.
The previously mentioned Basil and Manuel were a rabbit and a guinea pig respectively, owned by my sister and I when we were kids. As bondojoe says they were named after characters in Fawlty Towers.
But mostly I am a 'cat person', have always had at least one, but the most was 5 adults - one of whom was an emergency rescue who promptly gave birth to 7 kittens.
Mostly they have been rescues, or from friends who's cats had kittens.
But I always wanted a blue eyed Siamese, and four years ago I finally got one. At the time I had another rescue, but when we lost him along came Nelson, he's an Oriental.
Frankie - cos I got her soon after my Dad died, and she was going to be Reggie after him, but it didn't suit. However Dad was a Sinatra fan, and 'ole blue eyes'...
And Nelson, because Son said if we had a black cat we should name it after a famous black person. I didn't want a cat called Tupac. ...

@⭐️janerosity⭐️ I always thought Siamese are so pretty. Do they make good pets? I have heard they aren't as friendly. What kind is the black cat? So unusual looking. My husband wants a Serval cat. I posted a pic of one below
@Teeny💋 They make the best pets, super affectionate - to the point of being needy at times. Highly intelligent, Nelson plays fetch, I didn't teach it, he just does. He's an Oriental Short Hair (a Siamese but solid colour). I think that Lady and the Tramp gave them a bad name that's stuck - but totally undeserved. They also really do need the company of other cats, unless their human is home all day. My two are always snuggled together.
@⭐️janerosity⭐️ That is good to hear, I plan on getting one in the future but not until my son moves out. He is allergic to them really bad. His eyes swell shut. I had a cat the kind that are colored like a bob-cat. I named him Little Bit and he ended up being huge. He played fetch as well, he was so much more like a dog than a cat. Sadly I couldn't keep him with my son so sick all the time.
@Teeny💋 Do you mean a Bengal? They do share some traits with Siamese, intelligence for one. Anyone so badly allergic is going to react to any cat, but Siamese have less dander, and moult less than other breeds so they are kind of hypoallergenic. My best friend could never pet any of my other cats, but although she would not do so for long she's had Frankie on her lap and been fine.
@⭐️janerosity⭐️ I didn't know they were hypoallergenic or had less dander, I would have had one a long time ago. I should have gotten him Siamese and a chihuahua for his asthma and he would have been great....lol
I posted a pic below what my cat/dog looked like below
One, a sweet 4 year-old husky that is also a fierce protector; his name is Cotton. I am crazy about dogs but for some reason do not like cats.
Hi,guys ,I share my house with a 7 yr.old Burmese lady.(marked like a chocolate siamese, just with a much darker body. But very like a regular Siamese.)And she's a sweetie with a funny little "meow"like a baby cat.She acts like a regular pointer, meowing and showing me what she wants me to do.Lassie as a cat. She's so smart,(I guess) she looks at me drawing or typing on the computer, looks at the screen, and looks at my hands trying to figure out what I am doing.

She's a "rescue cat":cause Craig's list put my address down, mistakenly, and this woman showed up on my door, saying"You're looking for a Siamese?"and whipped out her phone with Bella's(my cats)picture. She was a radiant perfect Siamese,I fell in love instantly. Her owner was too old to keep her now,so at 3 yrs. old,she needed anew owner. Her daughter helped get us together. She lived in a tiny studio, before so now she liked to get out in my unkept back yard, and eat real grass.Lay in the sun. She's pretty happy now,we're close, she loves a high perch on the "Cat tree,"looking down at me.

You're often either a cat or dog person, hard to find a combination.Cats are smart aleck, independent, this one "talks"meow, like a feline Lassie.I often notice she's so smart, she can figure out how to manipulate me to do what she wants.Ha ha.The birds in the back of my messy place, are going nuts, when she;s out, they are scared of her--I won;t let her kill one.Squirrels living here(a lot)also are careful of her.I notice stray cats in this neighborhood, come over, and literally jump into the trees, trying to score a squirrel!Fortunately these acrobatic little squirrels are wise to this stuff, they fly thru the trees like astronauts.

People here sometimes make "pets"of the squirrels, but I think it'[s a bad idea, cause they have to live independent of humans, and not trust them.So I just observe their lives, and try not to interfere.I tried to "rescue"one once, who got hit by a car,but all the vets refuse to help squirrels;they consider them "diseased rodents"too infectious to treat.I was really surprised at all the vets' attitude towards squirrels, cause everyone loves watching them.--but the disease quotent scares them away. ...

Our middle child is another pit, her name is Juno. We were staying at my husband's family cabin out in the country. We were driving to the store after watching a documentary on the chuppa-cobra (sp). All of the sudden this small, dark thing with huge ears came out of the woods and was running down the dirt road in front of us. We thought for sure it was a baby chuppa-cobra...lol! We stopped the car and she ran right to us. She was about 10 weeks old and starved. You could see every bone in her body. She had no hair on her feet, tail and ears. We slowly nursed her back to health. She threw up acorns that she had eaten to stay alive. She now loves to stay under blankets and to snuggle.

@Teeny💋 bravo! I was raised with a yard & house full of triple registered APBTs. did rescue on all the molosser breeds til about 8 years back.
@Unreconstructed Are they the same as a Mastiff??
My husband wants a Caucasian Shepherd Dog. I think they are pretty big too.
@Teeny💋 do you mean the term molosser breeds? if so, it refres to all breeds that are considered the fightin' breeds.
My youngest, my baby is a Carin Terrier mix. His name is Bohdi. We went looking at the local dog shelters once day bc my husband had been real depressed. What better way to feel better than to rescue a dog and take care of it... get out of your own head. We of course loved and wanted to save them all. My husband had gone to the car and I was playing with the cats, when I got outside my husband was taking to a man while walking his dog on a leash. The man said he couldn't keep his dog but couldn't stand the thought of him in a cage so he was going to have him euthanized if no one came along and wanted him. He was a little older than what we were looking for (almost a year old already) and he was a boy. We were both use to females. We decided what the hell and brought him home. This little dog decided I was his human and he follows me like a shadow. Anytime I am standing and taking he will drive me crazy until I pick him up. He likes to be carried on my hip like a toddler. He is the smartest dog i've ever seen and will take your hand off if you tried to hurt me. ...

"we went looking for my husband to have a new pet and really I was the one most in need of a pet." As the Rolling Stones said "You can't always get what you want, but sometimes you get what you need." That seems to happem so often in life, doesn't it?
@𝓜𝓸𝓾𝓼𝓮*🐭 I would love a cockatiel, impossible with the cats though, but I have a friend who has one that has totally bonded with her partners dog. Such intelligent creatures, did he talk? Years ago I knew someone with a tiel who knew lot of swear words. Sorry for your loss xxx
@⭐️janerosity⭐️ Thank you, yes Cockatiels are amazing little creatures, mine was such a clown, wouldn't let me leave the room without him...

Scared the crap out of me a few times flying into my open kitchen.... almost made chicken soup out of him more than once.....
@𝓜𝓸𝓾𝓼𝓮*🐭 Haha. My friend's tiel sits on her shoulder while she showers ! One day I will win the lottery and have a big enough house that I can have both and keep them apart.
@⭐️janerosity⭐️ Yep, almost sat on him a few times... he actually plucked a key from my laptop, hard to get mad at such a funny little guy though :)

He also used to imitate the microwave, phone, and me unfortunately, saying not nice words.....
@Teeny💋 Well he was the type of parrot who liked to hang upside down and slide down the bars of his cage, so originally I called him Monkey, but I only ever called him Baby after that... it was his favorite word to use when he saw me coming home from work every day :)

He could also open his cage door with his beak, so there was no keeping him in there....
@Teeny💋 I love them, but I don't know that I'd want one as a pet, I know the damage a normal domestic cat can do to furniture/skin.
Right now I have a beta fish that is high maintenance. I have never seen a fish act like this. He only eats the freshest food so I have to feed him one at a time or he will just snub the food. I tried to just make him eat it by not feeding him more, he chose to starvation strike.
He also gets all excited and swims to the top of his tank when I clap, because he thinks I have captured him a fruit fly. He's going to be disappointed once this buggy summer is over lol. Once I gave him a house fly but it was too big, so of course I cut it into nasty little bug bits for him.
He has no name. I call him The Fish.
I would have dogs but I live in apartment and am far too lazy to take a dog out every time it needs. I think having a yard is a must when you have a dog, but that's just me. So I just have fish for now, but the other fish are not as ridiculous as this one.

@RealitvJunkee I have observed animals with distinct personalities before. But never a fish. Of course, I haven't studied them! If animals can be picky, Why can't a fish? Einstein ws WAY smarter than the rest of us. Who's to say that occassionally some animal doesn't leave his peers behind!!!
@bondojoe Fun fact, fish also chase laser pointers like other pets! It's super cute.
@RealitvJunkee I learned that on accident last week when playing with my cats using one near our fish tank. I thought I had gone crazy! Never even heard of this before.
@RealitvJunkee I've had many fish (again I rescued and had to learn as I went). So many personalities. They were from not so smart to amazing. Sounds like your wee fella has just broken the "big brain" theory. Lovely to see that done. Enjoy him/her. :)
the semi-pet Rhode Island Red rooster is comin' over earlier & earlier every day & now hangin' out with Cocoa, the Chesapeake, in the back yard. this wouldn't have happened when I first rescued Cocoa, she was big & quite a bully, only Benny the Van had her number, popped the fire out of her every time she came in the house & still does. but, Cocoa has now lived many years past normal expectancy for a Chesapeake, so, she has mellowed out & enjoys the rooster's companionship.
When you woke up this morning everything was gone
By half past ten your head was going ding-dong
Ringing like a bell from your head down to your toes,
Like a voice trying to tell you there's something you should know
Last night you were flying but today you're so low
Ain't it times like these that make you wonder if you'll ever know
The meaning of things as they appear to the others
Wives, mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers
Don't you wish you didn't function, don't you wish you didn't think beyond the next paycheck
And the next little drink?
Well, you do, so make up your mind to go on 'cause when you woke up this morning
Everything you had was gone, everything you had was gone... This is off topic a little bit, I went to school with a girl that had pupils shaped like a cat. I wish I had a picture of her but unfortunately I don't. Weirdest thing and I've never met anyone else like that
That's amazing. I wondered if they could see in the dark. Now you have me looking at my own eyes!
I've also never heard of this cat breed:
The Lykoi, as a new emerging cat breed, was created due to a natural genetic variation in the population of the Domestic Shorthair. It is still being developed by breeders who previously had worked with some hairless cats. It has a somewhat wolf-like appearance, characterized by sparse hair surrounding its nose, ears, eyes, and muzzle, while the rest of its body features a patched coat. These physical characteristics together with large round eyes and a wedge-shaped head lend the cat a lean and shabby look.

@Hex_Kitten LOL! They all look like they're waiting for you to say something REALY important! Very serious!
@Hex_Kitten I SWEAR my cats used to sit and watch me, while I watched tv. it was eerie!
@Gustafmax Wolfhounds! Yay! I had a record setter (here in Ireland), I called him Samson (or Sammy-the-D-Dog --- geez don't ask why because I don't know, it just kinda happened!) and they are such loving HUGE dogs. Sammy could jump a 8 ft fence no problem. He was so wonderful. He only lived 3 year (240 lbs of 7ft dog). Wonderful companions. I'm sure you're happy! :)
Are they ok for him to eat? I had some of those in my backyard, and thought they were strawberries!
I have one lazy dog .His name is Freddy .He just lays on the porch all day long to sleep .The only time he gets up ,when it's time to eat and then he does back to sleep . He only barks when someone drives up into the yard and back off to sleep he goes.He doesn't bark at wild animals that comes into the yard. I know he is old and getting closer to the end of his life ,I would not trade him in for nothing in this world.
@gregsohappy He's doing just what he's supposed to be doing. Protecting you, and being a dog! You're going to get old someday too! LOL!
@ Thanks

I've captured in through the year, 2 have passed, he's the last dog standing. Not sure if I'll ever get another one.
@springfield45 And why would you? Do others ever say after a human passes, "Will you get another?" They are our family. Full stop. Yay YOU, go YOU. :)
@Gustafmax When I was in Nepal they had both Llamas and Alpacas. The Alpacas guarded the Llamas. It's was amazing. I never knew! I have such respect for them. There are a few (I mean rare) sheep herders here who have both, though I get super mixed up when I see them and forget which is bigger and has the "banana" shaped ears. LOL I love them. They are VERY smart and loyal.
I have 4 cats and one dog, All rescued! well technically I am rescuing another abandoned kitten. Although I can't keep him, even though I am totally in love with him already. I have to find a home for him. He is the sweetest adult kitten I have ever been around. And I've been around a lot of cats. Anyone live in FLorida???? Want to adopt a cat????
@sunshinedaydreams I would since I've lost my sweet baby (Cockatiel) but I'm in Canada. You've got a big heart. More people like yourself are needed in this cruel world.
Recently lost my dog who was from a rescue shelter. Now I'm stuck with an anti-social parakeet who was mistreated by her previous owner. 6 African clawed frogs that were about to be flushed by their owner...as well as two goldfish I've adopted. Add to that 4 cats all thrust upon me by friends of friends who couldn't look after them anymore, and a pregnant cat dumped by my home that ive adopted. She had four beautiful kittens but I found very good loving homes for two and adopted mom and her two remaining babies.
I also have two neighbourhood cats who hang around my garden over 12 hours day that I have to feed now, and two foxes who sit outside my house each night demanding cooked chicken breast, sausages and raw eggs.

Do you have cats AND dogs? Birds, and cats? Snakes, and mice? Tell us your stories. What they do. What they have done. How much they mean to you. Tell us the happy, and the sad. Tell us their names, and how they got them [ Basil, and Manuel ] tell us about their personalities. Tell us how they look!
@bondojoe Basil & Manuel... now I know I told someone on here about them, please tell me it was you, because if not that is just WAY too much of a coincidence.
@⭐️janerosity⭐️ LOL! I should just drive you crazy! But no, you told me. We were talking about Fawlty Towers. I wish I had had pets named Basil & Manuel. I would have had to throw in a Sybil, and Polly, just to complete the set!
