hmmm...lets see. I have lived and driven in UK, Canada, France, Germany, Netherlands, Skopje, Belgium and Greece. The worst drivers were by far in Belgium and Greece. Belgians are somewhat civilised compared to my countrymen, the Greeks. In Greece, traffic lights are almost optional. If you are on a green light, do yourself a favour and look both ways before you go. Chances are some moron will be thinking that he can make the light even though he sees the yellow light from 500 meters away. How do you deal with them? The beauty of the Greek language allows you to express your frustration in really graphic terms, usually with plenty of maternal references. If you overdo it though, there are more physical ways that will undoubtedly follow. The rule of the thumb is to avoid any of the aforementioned choices when the other party is either a taxi driver or a lorry driver or a redneck or even anyone much much bigger than you. Getting beaten up even though you were right, will be infinitely more frustrating smiley smiley

@JudgeDredd Well traveled folks have unique perspectives; Driving in metropolitan cities you acquire survival skills along with scratches, dents and some collisions. ,

@Tyrlarn Well, in my case, having learned how to drive in Greece, you kinda learn to expect the unexpected. Having said that there were a couple of interesting points about Germany. For instance, in the big cities you cannot turn to the left if your path crosses the opposite lanes of traffic. Instead you have to turn to your right and then make a U-turn to your left. Also in Germany, you can get a ticket for driving too slow and you WILL get a ticket for jaywalking. In the Netherlands, the speed cameras have no buffer. If the speed limit is 100 km/h at 101 you get a ticket.

Having dealt w/traffic in many places here in the US I'd say the best defence is a good offence.

Most of my time's been spent driving around Dallas and Fort Worth in cars, pick ups, hot rods and commercial vehicles. Each has its upsides and down sides but if things get hot and heavy it's always best to be in somethin that can outrun the crazies lol.

@mrkim56 In Texas I thought you could shoot back? I learned early in cities, use of directional s is optional and in some places treated as a sign of weakness and you get targeted as prey. Country roads I could drive forever...

@Tyrlarn Yeah, what I meant by that was that the best defence in traffic is to drive aggressively :>)

Usin turn signals is usually a bad idea in heavy traffic as it tends to get you cut off more than it helps in swappin lanes.

Where I am these days is a lil burg that's far from the madd(en)ing crowd and about to move waaay out in the sticks. Anytime I hafta head into DFW I'm always reminded why I don't choose to live there anymore!

@mrkim56 I'm just on the country edge of a comfortable burb - here I wore out my finger, survival driving kicks in when an idiot passes me on the inside at 85 when I'm already doing 75 and my desire to play bumper cars starts to shine.

One complaint I commonly hear is about how fast traffic is in Dallas and how they hate driving like that. Growin up in Big D I am quite at home cruisin bumper to bumper at 75 or 80 which is pretty common on the freeways around town ... until some idiot screws it up for everyone else.

One cool thing I can relate is that the cops tend to leave the freeways alone, at least during peak load times. If they started writin tickets for everyone ignoring the actual speed limit it would lead to an even more massively worse traffic problem. Having spent over 30yrs commuting 1-2hrs each way back and forth to work I'm soooo done with all that wasted time and frustration!

Having been known to knife through rush hour traffic in a sports car at around 100 is a sure fire adrenaline rush and problee makes me one of those types you'd wanna play bumper cars with though, lol.

Where I'm moving to is definitely small town USA and I've already found lots of great places to be able to safely "test and tune" my toys where the most likely obstacle to encounter would be a stray cow and ... ...

i had road rage during a driving lesson. Almost side swiped by a white van man, phone in 1 hand coffee in the other holding wheel with 2 fingers. He came to a screeching stop , inches from hitting me. With a look on his face like it was my fault. The adrenaline surge + that look = pure fkn rage.
I had to reverse to get out of car. Then started dragging the guy out the window while pounding his face.

In summary , i take the bus.

Road ragin here can getcha shot. If you get outta the car and start to attack someone that's cause enough for someone to legally shoot you in self defence!

I leave my pistola at the house, unless I'm traveling.
