Do you buy content? Movies, Shows, Music, Games? (1654 views, 36 replies)
I don't buy anything, but I didn't buy anything before pirating either except for the rare maybe once a year I'd buy a movie or something. I do buy iTunes cards for my daughter to buy music and stuff though. I personally just have other things I spend my money on.
I buy music CDs and video games ( RPG ) . I buy music CDs because I like to listen to them in my car. I buy RPG games because I enjoy playing them at home and not on the internet .
Only gift cards, iTunes, etc., and just for ones I never know what to get them.
I used to pay extra on a Sunday for paper and a DVD (normally a collection; documentaries or classic B&W cinema) but all that disappeared and now I don't even buy the paper. I have been known to buy the odd book for my Kindle - maybe 2 or 3 a year. The last video collection was VHS of the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes. Still have it but don't have the video machine. That died with the kids tapes.
Over 500 dvds(mostly)and some blu-rays, however i don't really buy much films at all anymore, family buys me the odd here and there, if i see something first and i like it then i buy it, only fair in my eyes, but never pay for somehing anymore without first knowing what i am buying, hype can gain many sales but often leads to disapointment, especially in the games industry, never pre-order anything now, i used to download all games back in the day, the ones i loved, i bought, i tend to buy my games now...what few excite me these days
Shows i buy when they are complete, although with Red Dwarf and similar, never always possible, so i watch for free, then buy what i like:)
Not much buying recently though for some protective changes to come in my real world, saving like mad me has.
I buy them all the time. Different with box office movies, we have a lot of kids.
.. We love all the movie share(s).. thank you All..!
Mostly just games.
Resub to spotify if i'm working outside often.
dont even need a tv license (uk,bbc) i can live easily without bbc content
I sometimes purchase computer software. This includes productivity related products and games. I also have ended up with a collection of music CD's and Movies on DVD. I do not buy movies anymore and I began to collect vinyl records a couple of years ago as I like the sound of analog recordings.
remembering the school time, buying CDs of windows, games and movies. thanks to fast speed internet
I still buy it all, but only if I really like it. I'll own a hard-copy of a movie and still stream it online, though.
I stream a LOT of music but still buy CD's to support artists I enjoy. I also have a large collection of vinyl and cassette tapes I keep adding to (I still have a lot of VHS tapes, too!)
Software depends on what it is, the same for gaming. I'm not much of a modern gamer so only really buy them as gifts.
I wish I had the will power to stop buying books, but I don't. We own hundreds of the fking things.
@DemandingFemale I have a box full of cassettes. Problem is I can't find a player. Don't remember what's on most of them as most are mixes I made, don't want to think how long ago!
@Egor17 You can get small Walkman size tape players that have USB connection. Some come with their own software but for others you will need to source your own recording software to transfer them to a PC or Laptop.
I still have a tape deck that I connect to my PC/PA. I've started making some digital copies but I have so many more to do.
Ha, trick question. I am not a pirate! I just watch streams, I don't keep anything or make copies. But as far as buying such content - sure. As far as games, the only way to have a dependable updating copy is to buy it. As far as movies - I just can't afford it most of the time. As far as TV, I do subscribe to HULU.
I don't buy anything on line. I don't even have any accounts like paypal or whatever else they're called.
I do buy in stores and I buy used stuff off Kijiji.ca but I only buy from someone if we meet face to face and I look over the product to make sure it's worth spending my hard earned money.
I have dish Network and netflix, I have high speedblast internet. So I watch more than buy. Unless you count that 50 bucks once a year for dvd's to burn what I want. We buy the grandson Roblox and minecraft. When ever he visits we add more robux to his account for his games. We have several gaming systems we use and member of gamefly that is also a monthly charge. Since I am the only one that streams anything,I don't think much of it. I can find all my music free on you tube or spotify. So for me it's a soldid yes and no lol.
I'm a try before you buy kinda guy. If it's really good I'll pony up the cash but if it's trash I just pat myself on the back for being so damn smart and not wasting the cash on it!
I honestly have no clue how anyone does NOT buy anything online in 2018 when absolutely everything is available and for cheap. From books, games, movies, shows, free-trials even, all the apps for saving money on purchases and the points you get when making purchases..... from groceries, clothes, paying bills, the list is endless.
YES! I purchase all the things I want to own and I do so "online" via my phone + apps. Then what I can share with my closest friends and family for free like Netflix and more, I do so. I consider myself a hardcore gamer as well so I am always buying the games for friends and myself or trading (online) consoles are so inferior. :D
I am a music head so I own all kinds from vinyls, cassettes, 8Track and digital. I also am a collector of old MINTAGE - mint vintage items which I also purchase and sell online. Lots are music related but not all.
I do so every day. Now where is my free points for answering this survey LOL feels like Google Rewards minus the rewards. ...

I buy some games, and if I can't find a movie or doc I really want to watch I will buy it. And with free games, I have been known to donate to support good work!
I buy games. On an actual disc. If I can't hold it in my grubby little paws, it aint really real. I have a few downloaded games, but they have to play without an internet connection.
I don't buy TV or movies. There are heaps of sites like this one. I feel I pay heaps a month to my ISP as it is. And like this site they are not responsible for links I use.
Most of the music I like is old enough to be out of copyright. Used to collect vinyl LP's. Played them once to copy to tape, then stored. That collection got added to my brothers when I emmigrated. Any idea of how much some hundreds of LP's actually weigh? Of course at that time the amazing CD was all the fad. Not as durable as advertised. And like DVDs, susceptible to even ambient light on their edges. Yup! Can't beat a good LP and player. A good stylus would cost more than the LP.

Used to. But now we out here piratin everything bruh 😂 if it's available for free online why would I buy it.
Oh but i do like to collect vinyl records but thats pretty much it
If I can afford to, I usually do, especially if it's an indie artist, or developer./
Even though I really damn love TV series and movies, I probably almost never buy them. I do have Netflix with DVD's (because their streaming selection just sucks), and once in a rare while I'll buy something on Amazon, but only because I literally can't find it anywhere else.
The main reason I don't buy is availability and format. If they didn't DRM their sh*t and make it so you're tied down to specific software or devices, I might be more inclined to pay.
i buy games as i pick one very carefully. rarely films and songs as I would be broke in a week
yep. Bandcamp for online music, various places for online films (everything from HBO to Amazon), and 2nd hand/resale shops for physical music/books/movies.
(seems as though there's some Commandment about not stealing. haha)
I still buy a lot of games. I don't buy many CD's but the ones I do buy is mainly to support the artists that I really like.
I buy occasionaly software and IT service packs. Never movies or music. I don't care about games
Yes, if I can find it in a thrift shop because I simply don't have the money to buy much from a retail store.
I want to say i buy music on cd but i havent in a few years. Movies, hell no. Here in the states the media companies own the internet companies, so they still get paid. I think all the technology we use today has been carefully planned out and rolled out to maximize corporate profits. As far as music goes, i have a hard time finding downloads of complete albums, and most mp3`s are low quality. It seems to me this on purpose, maybe because everyone buys crap speakers anyway, seriously my friends buy supposedly high end speakers, that fit one hand. I go on and on but our perception of what sounds good has diminished in the past years.
Buy media content? Absolutely. Blu-Rays, mostly. We prefer local (legit) hard-copies of movies, series, kid's shows, etc. against times when the net goes down or Dish isn't working, not to mention the superior video/audio quality.
I do DL stuff through this site, but that's because my isp's traffic shaping makes such a mess of streaming that it's fairly unwatchable, so DLs work for me on a temp basis, the compressed MP4 stream quality isn't worth saving permanently.

Do you? How often and why? Some say that pirates don't buy media content.
I personally buy software and games, not all but a lot of.
@Dr.Evil I buy lots of IAPs in the few games I play on iOS that are free to download, but I pay extra for stuff. I have to be strict with myself because it’s very easy to press “buy” for unique content in a game like Sims, which I’ve played with for six years. I buy all the PS4 games and add-ons for my son, and I have a 3DS that I buy a few games and add-ons for. I buy Netflix, CraveTV, I’ve had Amazon Prime, but it’s got really, REALLY awful quality, so I cancelled it. I’ve had PureFlix, on and off, and I would pay for CNN but I have no cable service provider, so I can’t get it. I pay for ad-free YouTube, though. I buy movies and episodes of things on iTunes when I am too impatient to wait for them to stream. I had a VPN a long time ago that ruined a laptop I had, but I got the VPN specifically for Hulu because I’m in Canada. I will pay for it. If I can’t find it, then I’ll use thepiratebay (i still sometimes use it on iPad) and streaming sites. ...
