Would you leave your Country? (1350 views, 62 replies)
My Ancestors lived here since its creation. I will never leave my land. Visiting other countries would be fun though.
I need a world wide visa to travel around the world but I love my country.I will reside here in my land till my last breath.
I'm from the UK so... f**k yeah I would but I wouldn't live in America, if I had a choice it would be either Japan or a quiet little island somewhere in the pacific with a population of two, and the last place I'd live is any EUSSR member state.
@∞Aces∞ I loved Japan when I was there as well. What's really funny is people always attribute it to having a lot of active volcanoes (which it does, 110, I believe), but actually Iceland (which is approximately 4 times smaller than Japan) has MORE volcanoes: 130! I've not been to Iceland, yet. It's somewhere I plan on going in the next year or so. :)
Living in another land is exhilarating and liberating - and, probably still the most worthwhile means of broadening perspectives and self discovery.
I like to travel but will always have my home in Scotland an to be real there is so many places I would not set foot on the world around us is beyond me can't get it for want of better words, make do with what I have, sure there is many beautiful places n people all over the planet an as with growth some are not just saying move n groove but have your home.
@torrac Also Scotland . I do love it here however . My enjoyment of weed and the current potential for criminal charges . If it hasn't changed by time my kids are grown up. I'll be gone .
Wouldn't go states tho. Unless it was faraway from their version of 'civilisation'

You get a gun , you get a gun . YOU GET A GUUUN !
IMHO home is wherever you make one. But ppl certainly do tend to drift back to their birthplace.
I would like to travel the world, but always come back to the United States. Like the user who blocked me because he needs his safe space said, I would like to visit Japan.
I would never want to leave my country because I'm generally lazy and don't want the hassle. Heck, I don't even want to leave my city.. lol. Last place I would ever want to live is on the streets.
I'm a US citizen and I have been living in Thailand for the past 8 years.

I didn't leave the US for any particular reason. It was more of a draw to Thailand for business and family opportunities.

My Thai wife and I have a small business. We are fortunate and financially stable enough to send our two daughters to a private school, something we could never afford in the US.

Thailand is a decent country, but like anywhere in the world it has faults. The casual traveler might take note, but will never see what is really under the surface.

Greed, corruption, death and racism are common place in Thailand. Racism in the US is nothing compared to here. I can say this as a person in a mixed race family who has traveled extensively in the US including several very red states where we have been treated extremely well. Not once, not one single time has anyone anywhere in the US looked at us or treated us any different than anyone else.

Using proper visas and documentation my wife and children have never had a problem with immigration or ICE, while entering the US. ...

@DeweyOxburger I am in the UK, a friend of mine married a Thai woman. Although he would like to live there it was her choice to come here, and as they also have young children she now wants to stay in the UK for the opportunities they will have. But I do recall that when they first got married he said it was harder getting permission for Paweena to leave Thailand then it was getting permission for her to reside here, even though they were already married by then.
@DeweyOxburger Many Americans do not realize that very skilled people in science,& other highly skilled.valuable jobs, left the USA long ago cause those jobs are no longer here.ASIA is where many Americans work, the jobs are there.
I love living in the USA so I wouldn't move to another country. I would certainly love to visit different countries though. I'd really love to see Scotland. The last place I would go is probably North Korea.
I've lived in France and the Netherlands ~ both good places to live and work ~ and I'd move to Iceland tomorrow if I could afford to do so... amazing place, great people, terrific way of life but sadly ridiculously bloody expensive.
There's nowhere in the middle east or sub-saharan Africa that holds any interest for me.
I've lived in 48 countries, including the States. All countries have problems, there is no exception to that anywhere that I've experienced. Some are worse than others, though.

We place far too much power in our governments, that is the problem, full stop, in my opinion and experience.

I am on going to Finland at some stage. I would love to live in French Polynesia as well.

:)
@ HOW ARE THE ISLANDS DOING?A lotta of em have hurricaines,so much worse now, everyone hadda leave, the huge weather-changes were predicted to destroy islands as habitaion.--a lot of islands near Australia, the people had to move to Australia.I read this years ago.
@clarachan1355 It's still a gorgeous part of the world. Largely unspoilt. I don't feel my choice is a popular one, but money, property and things mean very very little to me. I couldn't live there full time anyhow, so one day it will be Finland. Well, that's as of right now, who knows in another 5 years. Life is meant to change, and so change is inevitable; ironically the only consistent is inconsistency. :)
Without the politics and pointing of fingers - I think those of us from developed nations are very fortunate to live/originate from Countries where we have access to all the things we need to survive and thrive; and still have the opportunity and resources to even talk about emigrating.

I've seen a bit of a world, but England is where my heart is (mediocre weather is my jam)

If anywhere, I think I would choose to live in one of the Scandinavian countries. Beautiful places, wonderful people and they are miles ahead when it comes to being pro-active in tending to the needs of the people, but as Gallanted already pointed out, they are pretty damn expensive places to live.

I'd prefer a lighthouse, though. With deliveries once a week, a stacked library and a decent internet connect. My life would be bliss *sigh*
@DemandingFemale (lotta brits told me,online,England got too expensive,.they went to Australia--espec. seniors.--lots of seniors are very poor now,can barely keep a roof over head--and disabled folk.--a lot of disabled people wind up on the streets.-=-I saw families get homeless.I hate reality,I avoid it as much as possible.
@clarachan1355 People will always find something to moan about. Britain is a great place to live for the most part. Of course there are going to be things we would like to change - but we have a basic state pension, welfare, social housing, a national health service, great education and reasonable wages.

It's the housing we really lack. Rip-off landlords, lack of social housing and massive increase in housing prices are turning whole families into sofa surfers.
"I'd prefer a lighthouse, though. With deliveries once a week, a stacked library and a decent internet connect. My life would be bliss *sigh*.. Throw in a fishing pole, and I agree!
@DemandingFemale I forgot about a guitar! I got one last Christmas and have been learning. Youtube is a great teacher! I have a ukulele, but as yet I am not getting skilled...at all! LOL!
@bondojoe There's loads of resources for learning how to play ukulele online now, and hundreds of songs you can play with just 2 or 3 chords. It's a fun instrument to play. Hope you're enjoying the guitar.
I don't know that I would ever permanently leave the UK, but if I had money I would have a home here but probably not spend a lot of time there.
I've spent time im India and fell in love with the place so I would certainly spend a lot of time there. I don't think I'd want to live there full time - not that UK citizens can - but if I had the cash to do so I'd want to help out with some of the kids charities when I was there.
There is so much of the world I've not see though so I would want to travel all over really.
@⭐️janerosity⭐️ I watch national geographic, and programs like that. No airport headaches!
@bondojoe too late, the world's too dangerous now.I worked, but was poorer most of my life(one reason, i never married well)and i did not have opportunities.Because of this,I refused to have kids cause i know what poverty is like.I am glad i did not.I always regretted not traveling,i coulda picked up more languages, and been a translator.I regret being born.NO, I have good reasons for this, you didn't see my life.--and I knew others who didn't survive as well as me.--they died a lot earlier.--getting stuck with everyone else dead by various means.
also i NOW HAVE A LOT OF PAIN, which i cannot escape.--excuse me going to take too much meds--
@clarachan1355 i DO NOT FEEL SORRY FOR MYSELF, i'm better off than many seniors now--and I realize most of the people in the world are poor,or miserable, not any better than me.--many much worse off!!!

its a bad cruel world for many people.Lotsa people don't see,or want to see, this,i admit it.
@clarachan1355 (can we upload pictures, gifs, or illustrations we have on computer?thanks!!)
I left home at 17. Finished high school and went to college on a scholarship. All I can say about that is my parents were against a girl having an education. After first year dropped out of college to go live my life.. not read about it in a book. I've been saying that for 40 years, I said that when I gave it up. I moved from Georgia to New York City. In 2 years.. so over that. I did talk to an old woman... she was 30+, that's how young I was. I told her how I wanted to travel around the world.. but not like a tourist. Really live and work and spend time in areas and study culture. She told me.. ominously.. that if I did what I wanted I would have no home. Didn't stop me. I went to London, Paris, St. Gervais, Dublin, Sligo, living and working, and also holidays all over Europe. Even bought a house for cash in Canada. Never lived there, sold it 3 years later.
I will never be comfortable in America. I am grateful for the paid education I got in the UK. No scholarship necessary.

@ginger666 I'm glad that you got to do what you wanted too. Too many people are either afraid, or don't have enough confidence in themselves to take control of their life. They take the course of least resistence. It's a road that leads to regret!
The US is so big that if I don't like a part of it I just move to another part. I've already done that several times. If I don't like the government I just wait it out. My family helped build this country and fought for it. I'm not going to leave.
If I had to go somewhere it would be Iceland or Australia. I could get along in most places in the world and I'll visit almost anywhere.
I might consider Austrailia or Canada since Armeek's list said they are the safest and happiest countries to live in...
I left Scotland for Western Australia. Only one real reason. Climate. But thinking about it, If I could I'd live somewhere in western France, in the foot hills of "The Pair of Knees"
