There's a lot of VPNs out there but if you just want to use it for said reasons, then why not go with the old but good Hotspot Shield? There's a free version perfect for you and also a trial if you don't want to pay. If you do, it's one of the cheapest. You can download to whatever you're using - PC , Android etc OR just get the browser add-on. Hope that helps.

Can you use chrome browser? They have a *incognito* option. No one can track you when you choose that option, apparently, not even chrome. Or so it says... 
@michael59 Incognito Mode is just to stop cookies and browsing history being stored on your device.
It doesn't hide your internet activities or mask your IP.

@clarachan1355 although actually I don't think any VPN will work with a subscription thing, try using a disposable email

VPN's will not allow you access to subscription based sites for free. Some sites may allow unique users to view one or two articles, but will never allow free-range access to everything.
Some Countries will limit access to foreigners which is when a VPN comes in handy.
I've recently been using the free Touch VPN add-on with both Chrome and Firefox.

You can choose your preferred country of origin. They also have apps for Android, iOS, Windows and Mac. I've tried several over the years and am yet to find any fault with this one.
@DemandingFemale To bypass site restrictions of the number of allowed articles viewed usually requires a blocking addon and diving into blocking scripts and elements. Considering the same article is basically available everywhere (because they are usually based on AP or Reuters) it's easier to find it elsewhere anyway.
@deiosa I was just sticking with the VPN/site restriction question. OP already said they weren't tech savvy so didn't see the point in delving any deeper.

hi, i don't want to subscribe to a newspaper online cause i very irregularly read the news;but i try to use a vpn or proxy so all the subscription newspapers(especial;ly a bad local one) do not catch me reading their newspapers.all the free proxys no longer work i can't find anything that does--also i think my software on puter is trying to stop me,but thart's not the main problem.
I bet if i bought a vpn,and p-aid for it, it still would not work.and i irregularly read online newspapers so its a waste to subscribe--i hate the local rag but its the only local news.the hidden state on Avast secure browser does not work--nothing works.and i've tried.
please do not give me a complex solution, cause i won't be able to do it.you'd have to simplify it.I am just not a techie.thanks for any suggestions.
@clarachan1355 Do you mean they know what your location is? What do you mean by "catching you reading their newspaper"? Do you mean that they can tell when you read multiple stories or frequent their site multiple times? If that is the case you should be able to use your browsers "private session" mode when using reading newspapers online or set those sites to only be able to have session only cookies that expire when you close the browser out completely. For example, Firefox lets you open a new Private window for browsing that won't save cookies past the window being open, from my understanding.
Proxies and VPNs won't stop a site from saving cookies on your computer, only browser settings can do that.
