Reasons to remove links (2039 views, 41 replies)

THIS IS NOT A FINAL DECISION. Just my thoughts on the current situation.

Let me explain you one thing.

Google and all second tier search engines (like Bing, Yahoo) are actively removing all pirated sites from it's search. They did it to us also. TwoMovies barely gets traffic from search engines, despite being a high quality and content-rich site. Google simple doesn't display pirate sites by queries like: watch {film name} online. Hope that's clear. It still displays us by terms: twomovies, two movies etc

Copyright owners bomb all site's pages with DMCA requests and Google removes them from it's index.
Read about Google Pirate filter here: searchengineland.com/9-outcomes-...

Okay we tried to work this way and without additional traffic from search engines. In short - this sucks. Less and less NEW people come here, much less revenue comes from advertising. Less money - less work can be done on the site, we have to pay for programmers, hosting, admins, etc.

I love this site and hate what is being done to it and you by disgruntled people. Will we still know when new movies/episodes/shows are out/released? For me that is the one of the things that makes this site so awesome.

@MotherDragon Sure, everything will be full functional. We will open adding episodes for all users and will add them automatically. And more functions will be presented.

But all this will be later. Now we are analyzing things what can be done.

@MotherDragon thank you, I would like to continue the site "as is" but the trend is not good. I mean the general "pirates" trend.

One question - is Crocovid part of the legal site??

Even if Crocovid is not part of the legal site I will still come here. I will still find new movies, be notified of new episodes, read great reviews, utilize the playlist function and participate in the forums. I can always watch links somewhere else but for the reasons I just listed and others, I will still continue to use this site. You guys pretty much are my IMDB.

Which if you are going to become basically like IMDB, I would suggest expanding your actor/actress/director section to be more like theirs. That is basically the only thing I still go to IMDB for. Just a thought for the future.

Whatever you decide to do, I'll be here.

@rickgrimesrocks is Crocovid part of the legal site??
---

It depends if they (movie companies) continue sending DMCA removal requests to Google but generally speaking it's 100% legal to link to such sites.

Now we are just waiting, seems like we are getting less requests.

A couple of years ago I came across this site, found the 2M links system better than anyone else's, and stayed. Then got into the forum word games (what a pity your troll drove some players away)and started feeding back reviews.
That initial experience is what turns drop-ins into new members who stay to build up the site's ratings.
A newbie who drops in today and encounters Croc will probably skip off elsewhere, which might be your problem with the lack of new participants.
If the answer to pirate-site association is to separate the DL links, could you transfer the links system (which works well and we love it) to a Crocovid Mk2 ?

This site has the best show/film air date and link aggregation of any. No other site is going to replace that or have an equivalent community. Once we get over the loss of having two-movies spoon-feeding us content and links, I think we'll all realize that getting alerted, researching and communicating here and watching elsewhere really isn't that big of a deal.

Having been a webmaster/sysadmin in this niche myself, even though it wasn't nearly as bad back then, I know what it's like. It's a sh*tty situation for sure. Especially nowadays with copyright seemingly being above basic human rights such as freedom of speech, and the explosion of "DMCA trolling". Speaking of copyright, linking hasn't been a gray area for years now, and is in fact illegal in most developed countries. It's interpreted as being complicit. Think of it like being the driver of the getaway van during a bank robbery. It's dumb, because sharing a copy of something, never mind linking to it, isn't the same as theft since nothing is being stolen. But the law is mostly made lobbyists so here we are... This does mean that the Crocovid option isn't any better, legally speaking, than the links.

If I were in your shoes I honestly don't know what I'd do. Removing links is and obvious option. But then I'd ask myself if I'd get that search engine traffic back anyway? For example if the majority of my search engine traffic came from searches like "watch XYZ online free" etc, those wouldn't return after going legit even after being unblocked for obvious reasons. So legit or not, that traffic is basically gone. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. It is of course also a niche change, which means the competition is different. Instead of other "pirate" sites it's now a combination of IDMB, TheMovieDB, etc, and forums, which today essentially means competing with Reddit. I probably wouldn't consider that feasible without a ton of $$$. So if I went the legit route, I'd probably look at other options like trying something completely different, or in the worst case, selling it.

That explains all the redirects I get. Literally can't find a single link that works for me on any of my comps with many browsers.

@Elkfarmer Living without ad blockers... Please use paid services then. No ads and you will support content creators.
I wouldn't visit any of these video hosts without an ad blocker.

As long as you have Crocovid redirect you fall under "Secondary infringement liability" or " third party intentionally or knowingly induced the infringement" or "Legality of uploading". Thank you for 8 years of...well you know.

Intead of breaking 2moobs why not mirror and park the site offshore in friendlier territories. Although understandably 2Moob arose from humble beginnings, this third alarm may be the charm. Move the whole shebang before its too late to gather everything and CALMLY relocate. smiley Feeling 'safer' offshore might even encourage new users.

@(⌐■_■) Have you read my first post? The problem is not in hosting. Linking is legal. The problem in dmca trolling.

@Dr.Evil sounds to me like removing the links to a separate site then linking to that site from the movies page would absolve two-movies from dmca's. As for the trolls let people block except in game forums, stop babysitting crybabys and let people deal with their own problems. You cant deny that sticking your nose in arguments in an official capacity only serves to make the site a target.

@rickgrimesrocks I have a lot of trouble accessing crocovid from here. Yes, I have a VPN and an ad blocker. I have to find it external to this site then look for a link that works before I can watch anything. Many times the links are broken or removed. It is a real pain in the ass. But then I find my way back here to comment and discuss what I've watched.

Hi Doc, just wanna get my two penniesworth. I for one am glad that you took the remove links option. Even if you had gone the other route, people should not be so selfish - you know thinking its a personal attack on them just because............firstly i would have just removed and banned them from ever returning........lets see them run a site and have to make that lesser of the two evils option. Your very action saved the site, and whats wrong with croc ? i have had no problems playing anything, the occasional one would freeze every once in a while, thats just how things are. Oh and erm Orangutan spot on mate. Anyways long live 2Movies long live Dr.Evil

here's my thought, ever since openload and verystream died out this site has been taken traffic loses like crazy. Forums threads are barren, chats are barren it got lonelier and lonelier. if you do take away the links that have just started to gain traction and fame, you're shooting yourself in the foot.

whats the point in coming to this site otherwise? there are already tones of movie review websites and they're growing everyday. Websites like fb twitter and reddit are already stabbing their base, and theyre already established so what chance do you have. this old style 90s style forum post based website just isn't going to cut it.

i think you have 2 options, lean heavy into your rebranding and make two movies from scratch, or go back to being the titan link giver. this weird hybrid isn't appealing to either fan base so you gotta get focused on one.
