This is a continuation from Dr.Evil's thread on pointing like/dislike score. His thread was getting too long.
I didn't ask. He might dislike it!. This is not the first like site to see that problem.

I like the idea that your opinion is your own. You should comment on a show or movie. It helps others. With so many to choose from.
But commenting on anothers opinion? That is just rude.
Comment on the show. Scathe it, adore it, it's your opinion.
I have avoided many a terrible movie by others comments. And suffered longer minutes of ones I wouldn't give the time of day. At least I could comment on the movie and score it.
I love carrots and tomato. Totally hate cabbage and celery with vengeance. My opinion.
Want to vote on that? As though your opinion on mine would matter.

Not a problem. I like TV/movies. I don't mind others not liking the stuff I like. Just find it silly when others dislike a person because they like a movie they dislike. Scoring a comment encourages that.

Dr.Evil. Do you go back to movies you have watched to see what others think of your comment? Not to watch it again because you really liked the movie.?
Normally takes me at least a year for a really good movie. If I didn't get it on disc before.

For example. Tonight I watched a 'Hallmark mystery'. It was quietly entertaining. Some would tick the approve/disapprove hand on my comment without watching the movie. And make no comment on the movie themselves.

I like the idea of Useful/Useless indicators. A useful vote needs no explanation. However a useless one would suggest that the voter should indicate what they find useless to them. I would see it as an opportunity to offer some communication to the writer of the comment stating the reason or reasons why the voter finds the comment useless.

Extending that reasoning, I think that a useless vote should automatically open a reply box where the voter has to write saying the reason for the useless vote. That way there is a record of who made that vote and why.

The voter that can choose to write the message. Only if the message is sent THEN the useless vote would be registered. This way only the useless voters with a genuine reason will be registered.

Is it complicated to do something like this? - that's for the Doc.
Is it messy? Probably
Will it create a whole new set of challenges? What do you think???

hmmm..."Pencil Madness 3" operates this way;you do not register, you just DRAW;THE SOFTWARE REGISTERS YOU.---but--no password, no name!!i like it cause no one can blame you for yer art--you are free of most critiques.you can change yer style or experiment endlessly.SOME PEOPLE register cuz they want praise.

you want software to "ask a person what they find useless."--and then they'd b be required to answer;what is useless"or is it all useless?why?what would make it USEFUL?but, they have to REPLY,TO REGISTER.this is a question for software people if it could be done--of which there are a lot on the web.(but not at microsoft)hah hah smileyi like the idea.

I understand what you are saying, some people can be very rude but you have the choice to not read it or block them. I like to ask questions about some comments or agree with them or even ask if they have seen something else that is similar. I wouldn't ever bash someone for their own comment or opinions, that would be rude. smiley

I honestly have no idea why people still get so hung up over likes & dislikes. Not just on Two-Movies but all over other sites, too.

If the option is there people will use and abuse it for an array of reasons.

The comment sections on any site have always been a hot bed for voting abuse, off topic rants and petty arguments.

When voting (especially down-voting, because no one moans about the UP votes) is an obvious bone of contention amongst some of the most active members it's probably best to get rid of the option altogether or the Admin/Mod's end up wasting hours of their lives dealing with people complaining.
