Some users make their comments bold like:

This is my awesome comment I want to make it bold!

This is my awesome comment I want to make it italic!

These special tags being misused. Should we disable them? Talking about making all message body bold.

How are they being misused?

@Dr.Evil I don't feel that member was misusing the bold, in that case. I think maybe they wanted it to stand out, and it did.

What does misuse mean to you, Dr. Evil?

For me, it's subjective if there aren't any "rules" posted about the specific use of each special features like bold, italic, underline, etc.

I do not want to see them disabled, but that's just my feelings and others may feel differently and I'd like to hear what other members want. :)

@Dr.Evil I used BBCode all the time - not for entire posts like that, though. I actually wish we could use more of them.

I don't see the big deal in a couple of bold comments, if it means everyone can continue using them.
Maybe send her a quick PM and ask her to stop using them for entire posts?

ETA - I agree with Ravenous.

@DemandingFemale I would loooove to see colour, but honestly feel that one would be heavily abused, so am reticent on that one.

Quotes are an excellent idea!

@ You're probably right. I know some would take the time to make their posts a rainbow of colour. Some people have too much time on their hands lol.

They are called quotation marks. ""

Really don't like the idea of rainbow coloured type. Might induce migraine or even comma.

[ url=htps ://1.two-movies'name/] This is TwoMovies![url]

So you would just see a hyperlink - This is TwoMovies!

@Dr.Evil I've noticed that, she does it with ALL her comments. Maybe just ask her to stop if it bothers you. I don't really see anyone else misuse it. I like it to be there as an option if needed.

Perhaps what is needed, if it's even possible to make such a thing happen, is some kind of separation between the BB code options available on the forum part of this site, and those available on the individual movie and TV show pages.

That way the forum part of this site could have more BB code options, like those suggested above for example, while at the same time the Movie and TV show sections, which are meant to be more immediately to the point anyway, could probably get away with having fewer options, for instance, removing all but the spoiler and link buttons.

@Lurkio I, respectfully, disagree.

The coloured type will have an even greater propensity to be abused in the forum.

Two or three types of colour would be fine.

I also feel the options should be universal to the site, not limited for one area.

There are times where I find the italic, bold or underline useful, but I use them sparingly.

@ As I see it, the forum is the part of this site is where people come to chat and have fun and play forum games and discuss all manner of topics, be they film/tv-related or not. Thus having additional BB code options, such as [color ] for example, on the forum side of things does seems to make some sense.

Whereas, on the Movie and TV show pages, where it seems to me that the primary aim of the game there is to post reviews and storylines and synopsis' about the particular film/tv show in question in as succinct a manner as possible, having smilies and images and youtube videos and text formatting options (bold/italic/color/etc. etc.) is largely redundant, because those things generally don't add anything meaningful to a review/storyline/synopsis, rather they instead tend to detract from it.

As for the numbers of text colours, should a [color ] tag even become available on here, I agree there shouldn't be any need for more than a very basic colour palatte (e.g. ...

Dr.Evil.. Are you nuts? Bold, italic and underlined are as common written practice as a full stop.
I did look at the example of bold you linked. I thought that person really liked that movie. Didn't make me want to watch it.
The bold and italic print shows the writers intent, adding to the meaning of words written. As does underlining.
Would you really have our written word lessened of meaning?

@Dr.Evil Very easy to scroll past what you find offensive. truthfully I didn't bother to read the post in all bold. There are some sort of rules about using said type faces. Not sure I learned what they all are though.

@Egor17 I don't think rules outside of this site regarding type faces would be applicable, and if there need to be rules around it, then they need to be posted here so that members can refer to them. :)

@ Of course you do. Probably did before it was mentioned.
I scroll past all caps and bold.
But never someone that knows how to type. They might have something interesting to say about a show I haven't watched yet.

@Dr.Evil I do see your point here as I have noticed some members leave movie/series comments in ALL BOLD or even underlined and there is no reason for it other than to stand out? Although it's not the proper use of it and as you state it is "misused" but I think there are more important issues to address on here than bold text. There's a misuse of many things but that's another topic.

The bold text does not bother me or the underlining of text. If anything it just makes the user look silly or ignorant.

That's just my opinion on the matter.

Or learn to use them. Better than yellow oranges. See PureVodka, proper usage. States what you mean with emphasis. Well.. Except the yellow oranges?
