Blocking adds on YouTube (336 views, 14 replies)
My Firefox with ublock and IDM downloader works fine, no ads or messages.
Another PC with Brave is good too.
@Buttless I use Adguard. It's a paid program but I got them to give me a free lifetime license key because I used to spread the word about them. It's a free 2wk trial and after that you still get a little protection for free but I like Adguard. Idk why but I always had issues with Ublock and adblockers that can be added to web browsers. Adguard works on my phone and on my pc but on my phone you gotta install an apk because there's no app in any of the stores. I swear by Adguard. I have been using it for maybe 6 years now and it's really easy to use.
I am not familiar with IDM Downloader, I will have to check it out. I take it this is a program you use to download anything you watch??
I've used the Brave browser with adblock plus for years now. The same thing started happening to me on youtube. Now I open youtube in a private window and have ad free viewing.
My Firefox suddenly started inserting ads before playing Youtube vids. It has worked fine for years with ubblock, no ads at all.
Anyone else noticed this or have a fix?
@Buttless Check your Firefox add-ons Manager.
I've never had ads using Ublock Origin.
Added Ghostery lately. Seemed to slow things down just a tad at first.
Guess I'm used to that now.
@Buttless Ublock works better on it's own, so disable ABP on youtube if you are using both. Go to U block settings, goto filter lists, purge all caches and then update. Then delete all Youtube and Google cookies, restart firefox and that will work. If this is too much effort, using a private window works, so does amending the URL to an embed video (change 'watch?v=' to '/embed/') and as a final step the Brave browser works fine at blocking ads on YT too. Hope this helps.
Thanks guys.
I uninstalled and reloaded ublock to catch all the updates. Works fine now.
Those ads are so annoying!
Using 'Mytube For YouTube' lets the ad load for a sec & then kills it so not detected as an ad blocker, u just get a 1-2 sec pause in the video .
On the down side it replaces the videos red progress bar with a glowing rainbow one & a heart for 1 of the options buttons but better than having ads.
add-on for : Firefox / opera / Edge & apparently Chrome?

I have never seen an ad in my life on YouTube or anywhere else. I use this.

Use Firefox, add the Ghostery app, open YouTube in a private window, and watch all the ad-free videos you want.
The adblocker I use on YouTube worked great for years but about a month ago I started getting a message that I was using an ad blocker and if I saw 3 videos without ads my account would be locked etc etc....
I got around that by downloading what I wanted, without ads, and then deleting them when I was done. It works but is clumsy.
So now when I select a vid on YouTube and that page opens, a Ghostery app window pops up saying that if you open it in a private window it will run without ads. I click on the link and it runs the video without ads.
So, use Firefox, add the Ghostery app, and ok it to work in Private Windows. Then when you open Firefox in a private window, you can watch all the ad-free videos you want.
