Are you a Liberal, or a Conservative? (1692 views, 104 replies)
I can be either, depending on the issue, but when put to the general question like above, I always go with, "I'm a moderate Independent." I have friends on both sides of the line, and even a few waaaay over the lines, but mostly, I'm just disgusted how we're drawing lines instead of stepping over existing lines to work together and solve our country's very real problems. And I lay most of the blame for that at the feet of the hatemongering media, the completely partisan politicians, and the head of every zealot splinter group that continues to try to divide our citizens and focus them on demonizing each other instead of remembering that we're all in the same boat, and if either side sinks, we all go down together.
@TRCIII I agree with all of that. If we were ALL moderate independents, it would be a better world. But because there are two parties that hold most of the power, and that are trying to tip the scales in their direction. I will vote to tip it in the direction of conservatism. If a moderate Independate ever has a chance of winning the Presidency, or even a state , or local election, I will vote for him, or her over any other party. I am not MARRIED to Conservatism. At the moment, I just prefer it's company. Independence would always be my first choice.
I'd say I'm a moderate liberal but it depends on the issue too. For example: I don't like aborting innocent fetuses but I also can't deny a woman's right to choose what they do with their body since I'm not in their shoes. So many of the answers on issues lie in the particular situation & what is right for them.
This question is silly. For one it would depend which country you are in. Liberal, Conservative and Socialist are totally different concepts outside the usa.
You are Conservative? So you think dictatorship in a democracy like Thatcher of the UK was setting up is OK?
@Egor17 ..con·serv·a·tive
[kənˈsərvədiv]
ADJECTIVE
holding to traditional attitudes and values and cautious about change or innovation, typically in relation to politics or religion.
synonyms: traditionalist · traditional · conventional · orthodox · stable · [more].... Liberalism, political doctrine that takes protecting and enhancing the freedom of the individual to be the central problem of politics. Liberals typically believe that government is necessary to protect individuals from being harmed by others, but they also recognize that government itself can pose a threat to liberty. As the revolutionary American pamphleteer Thomas Paine expressed it in Common Sense (1776), government is at best “a necessary evil.” Laws, judges, and police are needed to secure the individual’s life and liberty, but their coercive power may also be turned against him.
@bondojoe 1776 is an American time frame so this is an American definition which just actually provides back up to what Egor17 said above.

@august1, that thing itself translates into LAW;whether or not women have a right to choose to have a baby.its more dangerous to carry to term than get a legal abortion, plus, forcing women to not have sex is the only answer to"no legal abortion."
I am an independent, after being a liberal many years ago.So to keep the extreme liberals out of office, and to keep them from destroying the 2nd Amendment(which apparentally is one of the things keeping foreign govts freom coming in.,and taking over the fed,and the country,I don't really HAVE CHOICES.To stop us from being overwhelmed by ISIS,which would come right over Hillary's non-border,)I have to vote conservative right wing.--cause its now a very dangerous world, we all have to remain armed in the USA.
ARMIES?all our troops are in foreign lands, they can't protect us here.Even the national guard gets called to go overseas(and they do that.a lot.)The bottom line is; yes, we need to protect our borders; yes, we will need to protect our families. That lets out the democrats.they're not even democrats any more. They're TYRANTS.their leaders are sexual predators apparentlly. They are just too CORRUPT.they have censored ALL the media.

@clarachan1355 All steps to become part of a one world government ;) I suspect you would enjoy reading the Qanon boards.
@clarachan1355 I agree with enough of what you said to be incredulous that you would attack me as often as you have. I SURE as hell didn't support Hillary, agree abortion is a woman's sovereign rights over her body, think all MEDIA is corporate owned and ergo elitist controlled, but I also think Trump is clearly unbalanced.I voted for Sanders.
@bondojoe Your talking about the United States like it's the whole world though, and it's not.
I don't need or want labels of any kind except for one the ingredients in my food...and even those are inaccurate at times.
Labeling does not work in any productive sense.
@Mykee83 What's a "RWNJ"? I'm not being cheeky. I just refuse to participate in the re-purposed hate lingo (not saying you're doing that by the way, Mykee).
@Mykee83 I just meant the expression (ta for the clarification, I'm terrible with acronyms). I refuse to label you. Sorry. :) You're a person who has an opinion, so is everyone else.
@ @Mykee83..People that block others, then make ugly comments about that person that can't be seen are the perfect example of ignorant hateful Liberals. I can't see your ugliness, but everyone else can. And like we can detect a planet by the force it exerts on those around it, I can detect when stupidty is circling me. I know you're there. If you HAD any decency, you wouldn't be.
@bondojoe I think that anyone who knows me knows me to be a genuine and incredibly decent person, and that I only resort to something as mundane as a block when all other attempts to be left alone have miserably failed. I could post screen prints of some really strange behaviour that has had me wondering why someone would bother so much with me, so really, what I am doing, is standing up for myself. I rarely have need to resort to this, but under unique situations, it is called for. I would never expect anyone to understand, yet there are those who do because they too have experienced it.
I don't feel I've (overly) offended you, Joe, I reckon we actually have somewhat of a friendship, and that's ultimately what I enjoy.
I don't need my friends to be carbon copies of me. I enjoy diversity. Which is why I'm against the label thing.
I just wanted to write that as I'd not seen any of this 3 months ago.

@chaseyerself Well given they're regressive in the extreme... you could say yes to that.
The actual world has no borders. Just greedy people of every region. Don't get me wrong! I'm born Scottish and very biased.
@bondojoe Actually, if you've just labeled him a purely Scot than you don't know him very well at all, and again, a strong example of "label failure".
@chaseyerself Don't you feel that by being Scottish, that you are different than say.. an Iranian? That your social identity is Scottish, rather than Iranian?
@bondojoe fck aye 👍 leaving the eu and scotland going for another indy isnt happening for nothing ! i get what u mean now but am sure a few reprobates will say thats wrong ! its my opinion no ones gona change it
@chaseyerself LOL! I'm getting hammered for saying that the country that you come from is putting a label on you. It's insane ! If you are from Scotland, why would I call you anything other than a SCOT!
@bondojoe exactly ? its the same in england they say thr english we say wer scottish and thats exactly who we are lol , if i say ur an american hows that labelling you if u are an american ?
@chaseyerself Maybe it's like the gender thing. If you say you're a man, I have to CALL you a man...even if your a woman. LOL!
@bondojoe if i were to stay in america and i had the citizens visa thing that lets me work and stay thr .does that make me an american? i would still say am scottish no matter what country i was allowed to live in
@chaseyerself LOL! I guess you could claim to be BOTH! If you WANTED to. Don't people have any pride of their nationality, anymore?
@bondojoe nope id still be scottish am proud to say that and so should other peoples countrys !
@chaseyerself That was my point. I agree with you. And i got attacked..LOL! I think this may be an experimental unit of a mental institution.
@Egor17 What's funny is in the several years I've known you and chatted at you, I would never have thought to use that word (biased) to describe you.
I'll have to have a wee think about the use of that word and if perhaps I'm not getting something.
:)
I thought it was more ecological. Climate forming social. Is it Hot or Cold? What is comfortable? For social interaction?
As Billy Connolly said "No such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing!"
BUT
If your acclimatized? The rest is social interaction and social acceptance.
Here's something that still makes me laugh;
Dr Hook--- Levitate.
Bondojoe, I think many problems in today's world wouldn't even exist if Americans supported the Libertarian Party more. But until the monopoly control of all of our media is broken up and people are told the truth or at least truth without all the omission of facts nothing will improve.
@Icemankfc I agree. I'm a conservative, only to oppose the Liberals. I would be happy as an independent, or libetarian. But I don't know if any Liberals would give up Liberalism.
@Icemankfc Are you in a country where you can see a monopoly.
Media was always Government controlled. It's called 'Propaganda' Even your own Government will deny that, for appearing stupid.
Truth is We as a people destroy our planet. And We as a people are killing all.
What a Fucker!
You want the facts? Use your public libraries for actual historic facts. If the Governments didn't burn the books.
@Icemankfc Really? And what sort of Government does not try to emulate a dictatorship? Leaving the real question.
@Egor17 There are many differences of a true dictatorship though. Any elderly Italian or German or even a Russian would be glad to explain. For instance, we couldn't even have this conversation under a true dictatorship you see? ;) But, I get your point, disobey enough and all of them will send someone to point a gun at you eventually!
I am a radical left-wing conservative islamic freedom-loving enviromental anti-intellectual feminist individial (uph!!) Bash that if you can
I didn't read any of the comments, just skipped straight to the end....
I'm just an a**hole. Totally apathetic about what anyone else cares about. I know that comes off as too cool for school or whatever but, it is what it is...
@PsychoDeeDee I think this was an opportunity to express what YOU care about by spouting out some labels that you may or may not understand but to give the readers an idea as to your position in our socio-economic global society. But if you don't give a flying fu*k about the question then why comment? I am sure you could find something better to do like watch something on this fabulous movie/series site which it was originally built for. And who knows, you may discover something passionate to get behind and share with the rest of us when we are not too busy watching.
@---BOX--- PDD was probably just pissing out his window to see who gets wet, imitating Bondo.
@---BOX--- I commented because I have no social media agenda nor do I give 2 sh*ts why you would question my logic.
I am sure you don't, but as for logic ... well I'll let others be the judge of that. I hope you find the agenda and have a great day
@PsychoDeeDee Credo - A statement of the beliefs or aims which guide someone's actions. (Oxford Dictionary).
Yes, I think that was the original question and yes (again), us people (whoever they may be) are here espousing them. I am glad that has been cleared up.
Take care.
As a progressive, I rather liked the 'liberal' definition:
Liberalism, political doctrine that takes protecting and enhancing the freedom of the individual to be the central problem of politics. Liberals typically believe that government is necessary to protect individuals from being harmed by others, but they also recognize that government itself can pose a threat to liberty. As the revolutionary American pamphleteer Thomas Paine expressed it in Common Sense (1776), government is at best “a necessary evil.”
Laws, judges, and police are needed to secure the individual’s life and liberty, but their coercive power may also be turned against him.
I am the most conservative person in America. I make Rush look like a run away Liberal. I consider myself Independent/Conservative.
[/b]
I'm neither and I have a mix of both viewpoints. I don't believe in taking guns away, if a wall can be built without hurting other important programs significantly then whatever, and I support the death penalty. On the other hand, I feel like immigration policies are stricter from non-European ancestry nations, that people are equals, and that universal healthcare could potentially work out. Universal healthcare works for other countries and the people there say as much, but then some Americans just seem to think that they are not telling the truth. I don't believe that someone not being able to pay for healthcare should just mean that the person has to die.
I think that people from all sides should just take the stick out of their butt and try to work together and compromise.
I'm a conservative person and I always voted for the conservative parties. I am now just a conservative person and have given up all politics. I believe one party is just as nuts and corrupt as the other. No one to vote for so I stay home and watch sitcoms. I came to that conclusion during the Obama/McCain presidential race. I had just had surgery and stayed home and watched it closely. As far as I'm concerned.. it's all a farce.
@laurie621 Iagree...both parties are poor representatives. I do vote however, for the lesser evil...whichever it may be. It changes from decade to decade. Right now, I don't support abortion, or opening our borders, and leting ANYONE in, so I vote Republican. That could change as the parties change.
i hate all politics and think politicians should be in prison.. I say take the people that want to run stuff pop them in a cage together the survivor wins
@bondojoe.. When everything started getting crazy and out of control I believed as you do. That was until the Oboma race and I noticed things I had not before. I now believe if we were left to our own mind set without big brother pitting us against each other and all it's manipulations, things would basically go back to the way it was. But sorry to say, that will never happen. We have been told how it ends and what it will be like before it does.
@laurie621 Oh yeah.. I agree. The decisons we make here are the best we can do HERE. But things are spiralling to an end.

Don't be shy . Stand up for what you believe in. Don't bash anyone. Just state what party you prefer. If you are a socialist, or a different party...name it. If you don't care, or don't like ANY of them, say so. Let's find out if people are willing to post their convictions open to the public. I'll start. I'm a conservative. And proud of it.
@bondojoe Let me post an addendum to my original question. THis question was intended for AMERICANS to answer. Sorry for the confusion.
@bondojoe Just so I'm PERFECTLY clear...lets change that to CITIZENS that live in the UNITED States, on the American continent.
