Why we removed link voting from movie pages (1204 views, 15 replies)

You can still vote for links on link pages! smiley

Why we removed buttons from movie pages...

1) A lot of users abused the system and down-voted even valid links.
2) Some linkers down-voted links of other linkers. smiley
3) Some users did this just for fun. smiley

And...... how can you vote without seeing a video?

@Dr.Evil But I thought the whole link voting was monitored by you guys. Wasn't it? smiley
And I personally don't think all the three things you mentioned are going to stop with this change. Especially the second one, if some linker wants to down vote other links, he's still gonna do it.

I agree this is a step towards it and this will help in some manner but I'm afraid this isn't gonna get rid of the problem entirely.
I think it should be monitored and if someone is found abusing it then his/her link voting capabilities should be taken away.

@Athb007 It's almost impossible to monitor because bad guys may use proxies, tor, vpn.

@Dr.Evil I use vpn, tor, proxies. Not everyone is a bad guy. Way to generalize and judge a book by its cover..
Some people just like their privacy. & don't like the man watching their every move when their about on their own business..

@Melted~Dreams I didn't say that you can't use tor or vpn.

@Melted~Dreams I don't think he meant that everyone that uses vpn, tor or proxies are bad guys. He meant that the "bad guys" voting down links for no reason or linkers voting down other linkers may use those and it is hard to monitor them bc of that. smiley

When links are few, I have checked out down voted links. The majority were dead. Some were poor, some were wrong movie/show. I found the votes helpful, often wishing there were MORE down votes on links that needed them. I think links that ask you to disable your adblocker should be voted down. Don't waste my time with that.
Was this really a problem? Not to me. I'd like to see it reinstated.

@sidewayswalking the vote for links still there, but now you need to click on the links and then vote it on the link page itself (top center)

sidewayswalking does bring up a good point. Seeing the score (I guess that's what I'll call it) for the links was helpful in letting you know which were the better links. Is there any way to at least show the score for the links on the movie page?

And here I thought it was something I did LOL. Nice to know it's just a change in your system. I always voted when I found a good link and I must have done something right because you guys never spanked me (although ...) LOL JK geesh LOL Seriously, though I am sure some people really abused it. I like it here, you guys at least keep up with things that you can. Thanks for all your hard work!!

On the whole, across the website and for most movies, most links had no votes whatsoever, and hardly any link showing more than 3 or 4 votes at the most, so from where we're sitting, this appears somewhat over-reacting, an overcompensating a knee-jerk reaction -- maybe we don't watch 'the right things where this has been such a plaguing problem. :p

Those that did, positive or negative, were often enough outdated, positive-voted ones sometimes with the featured file missing / removed, negatively voted ones reinstated or fixed / replaced -- maybe that should be monitored, rather that rooting through IP addresses and worrying so much about would-be abusers based on suspicions, assumptions, and poor types of evidence, everything from confirmation bias to circumstantial and anecdotal 'evidence'.

On the other hand, and just as another person here had already stated, many of the down-voted links led to sites with missing / removed links, very poor quality files, oversized subtitles in an assortment of languages (with sometimes two of them piled atop each other and competing for screen space), or the ubiquitous 'disable your ad-blocker so we can bombard you with garbo porn-hub and one-night f*ck-friend pop-ups'...

In any case, I suppose it's a minor thing, another convenient little feature made a bit less convenient for most people due to overprotective over-reaction, but maybe not a 'huge deal' either way (and in line with Google- and Microsoft- and Netflix-like constant 'improvements' that seem only to remove convenient, handy options and features from their users, or make them less transparent and less useful and convenient :p).

Well, it is what it is, the above is just an opinion (however well-considered it may be) and summary based on observation and experience, nothing to be taken into account certainly not at the expense of well-meaning but often backfiring overprotective knee-jerk reactions. ...
