Who is here not only because of free movies? (1031 views, 23 replies)

I would like to start with myself. I don't watch movies here, I rarely watch movies at all. I don't watch shows now.
Who else here not only for movies? And why? :)

I came originally for the films and TV shows. I stayed for the warm, wonderful and diverse people I have encountered on this site. Thank you for making a Social Media-phobe such as myself feel welcome. PS I still watch films/TV shows occasionally. Hope that answers your question, Doc.

I came here over three years ago, and didn't bother with any of the social features until after a year, probably because I'm somewhat of an introvert.

I've found many fun and interesting people here to interact with and have met many nice friends whom I can't imagine having never met otherwise. I do enjoy a couple of movies a day besides that. I feel fortunate to be a part of this site, so many thnx!

I also watch shows on here, post in the forum and news section.

I love it here! Of course the main thing is the movies/shows but I love the forum and interacting with others here also. I love all the features here and the fact that you allow users to make suggestions and act on them a lot of times too. You've really got a great setup here Doc and I just can't imagine not having TwoMovies to come to everyday.

i beg your pardon 💊Dr.Evil💊? moderators aside, i always imagined you were too busy monitoring the site to go elsewhere for your leisures.

as for myself: i've stated before that smaller social communities are often better than the massive brand names we're all too familiar with. i don't really have many friends attached to my account profile, because i like most everyone i've met anyway and omg who needs the headache if two or more people on your list don't get along?

Initially I came for the movies only. I didn't register for a year or so, and then when I did it was still 6-8 months after that that I began to socialize or comment on anything. Since then I've met some cool people (some not so cool) and enjoy the occasional chat. Eventually I found myself on here more and hardly getting on Facebook anymore. However, most of my time on here is spent downloading movies to watch and while doing that I read and post comments on movies, etc.

Watching free movies is about tenth of my list. Maybe lower.

I'm interested in revealing forgotten gems that could be lost like a Marilyn Monroe films that is not her being sexy but trying a dramatic role.

Or some excellent early work in some Chinese or Japanese films. They typically are way outside the awareness of others. For example Zhang Ziyi is a gifted dramatic actress who made a sweet tale of an innocent peasant maiden who falls in love with a Communist common school teacher. It is a pure delight. You should see it. It's called The Road Home (1999).

Most Americans would look at the synopsis and NEVER see it due to antipathy. That would be a monumental loss.

I don't have to be a Communist atheist Chinese person to like the film. I am the exact opposite. That is the power of film to communicate humanism and dignity and respect.

The same is true of Persian films. Some French films are 10x as funny as a standard meanspirited American film that results to formula.

Mostly I am here to watch movies and shows, but alongside that - as someone who honestly never watches TV - I look for the recommendations from others and the site itself. If I wasn't actually here I would miss out on so many good things to watch as I doubt I'd know about them.

I don't socialise here very much - mostly cos then I'd end up not watching what I came to see - but I have met some very nice people, posted a few threads here and there, and sometimes there are even threads with pics of cats..... haha

I have cable and movie channels and on-demand and rarely watch as much of it is near worthless. 57 channels and nothing is on as the song goes by Bruce Springsteen.

Regarding "shorts" many artists are amateurs and releasing them to establish a fanbase such that a whole film can be made.

Much of that is pablum.

I can get movies anywhere. Most of the people that I've met here are interested in a better world. That's the appeal for me. Them...their opinions..their music...their lives. THAT'S DIVERSITY! People open up here.

I signed up NOT for the movies (no registration required) but for the news section (to comment). To be honest, I don't trust many sites with even my spam email because we have seen so many sites hacked/hijacked. Lurked for over a year. I stay because it is one of the few sites that still allow one to disable embedding.

Another reason I joined was certain folks had a pattern of rating old movies I liked and I wanted to see their fave lists if they made one. I get a lot of good suggestions this way. Find a person with somewhat simular tastes in movies and pick their bones clean for suggestions. One of the first people I befriended, I did so by mistake (thought they were someone else)... come to find out they had great taste in old movies and I have really enjoyed having them as a friend (and told them so).

I came here because I do love to watch films and series. That was indeed my primary motivation, initally.

I've been on film sites for about 15 years now and even owned my own small site at one time. It's a lot of thankless work to be certain.

Because of this site I've met some very interesting people who share their lives with me to one extent or another. I've also met the best friend I've had here, ever that I can remember, and we share the love of so many things in life (including wild hair colour) that I find it amazing. I spend a lot of times with very few people; I'm not a social butterfly at all.

I have found a sense of community here. Even if I disagree with someone, I find that I can learn from it. I personally don't hold grudges.

I have come to greatly appreciate the games on this site as they are a means to show how similar we all are, and have a belly laugh, or five.

This site is a big part of my life and I for one would be very sad if it were to be dissolved.
