I have watched dozens of horror movies since the pandemic started. I have subbed to Shudder and such, trying to catch up on all the ones I have missed.
I had seen The Wailing and passed it by many times but finally watched it on Hulu.
It is a slow-burn movie that had me laughing often in the first half from the MC's ineptitude and the dry humor and then put a bowling ball sized pit of dread in my stomach for the second half. So many movies rely on gore or jump scares, this one builds the terror slowly, layer by layer.
