Laser Correction Eye Surgery (426 views, 10 replies)
yes, I've had it done in 2008 (so it could have changed procedure now-medical advances and all)-having worn glasses since I was seven, this was incredible!! .there are "cheap"offers of surgery but hey, you're cutting into my eyes.Don't try and save money-go for a recommendation or for an established hospital/medical practise etc...The doctor/opthalmologist takes all sorts of measurements with his machines and so on and so forth. So, you lie down with the machine above, they pour a numbing agent and the next 1/2 hour is a white knuckle ride because you must not move. Not because it hurts(not at all).Afterwards, you have bandages which you MUST NOT take off and given antibiotics and another product in an eye drop form(only to lift the bandage or change it).I can't remember if I changed the bandages myself.Have someone take you to surgery and be there for you afterwards, as you cannot see with the bandages.Your eye feels itchy as if you've gotten a foreign object(scratchy). If you follow the process properly, you'll be okay. But I must mention, the 20/20 vision has degraded over the years and I have to wear light reading glasses. My doctor told me this. But it is really worth it.Good luck. ...

I know 3 people who have had the surgery and are very happy with the results. According to what I have read about it, 96% of people do very well, with a better chance if the person is under the age of 50,although I am sure every year they have new advances in the surgery. It has been about 8 years since one friend had the surgery and she is still satisfied. As far as, your vision, changing some over the years, mainly depends on how bad your eyes were in the first place, those with a higher prescription prior to surgery are more likely to see a minor decrease in vision quality over time — a condition known as myopic regression.
Thanks guys. I've been wearing readers for about 10 years now ( I'm 63 ) but have recently noticed that other close up stuff ( like cooking ) isn't as focused as I would like. Think I'm going to book an appointment to see if it is feasible to have it done.
@gallanted You are 63 and only jst noticing some of these things?:):):):):
Very nicely done however you have done it, most won't make it that long before their sight is real bad.
I used to wear glasses when i was younger, but stopped wearing them, thankfully, my eyes got better on their own.
Now also i eat organic onions and some things that contain things that are real good for eyes, currently my eyesight is perfect, although i'd hope so at only 32 yrs of age:)

I would be careful though as with any laser treatment on those very sensitive areas, after around 10-15years your sight goes back the same as before the surgery, and if you are unlucky enough, loose more sight than before, because of the eye laser surgery.

Mind you they could of improved the methods by now and perhaps full blindness is a much slower rate than before. ...

@gallanted That could explain a bit for me then.
When i was younger in my teens, i was eating the whole oranges and not just the insides, i may of been lucky to not have much or any chemicals that may of been on or in the skin, back then oramges in places were still very tasty and good without needing an organic sticker and methods to output organic these days.

Always got odd looks just for eating orange skins....and very rare i actually ate bannana skin as well back then, not that i would reccomend that though:) each to their own i suppose:D
@gallanted I believe the condition you described having is called presbyopia and cannot be corrected through laser surgery. I think the surgery you need is conductive keratoplasty. Good luck! :)
@ I spoke with the clinic and apparently it can be rectified by treating just one eye to realign the binocular effect. Anyway I've booked an appointment to go and have an assessment, and I'm then going off to Italy for a couple of weeks which will give me time to mull it over and make a decision.
Appreciate the input good people, it moved me on past the indecision I was in.
