Were you ever pronounced dead? Did you have a near death experience? Have you come CLOSE to death? Has your mind ever left your body?

My mom, sister, and I were in a bad car accident when I was in 7th grade. We all survived, but there was one part of the car where if one of us sat there, the person would definitely be dead because of the shattered glass - the right side of the back seat. We all had to be picked up by an ambulance. I don't remember what happened to the person that hit us.

@schuyl That's the kind of stuff I'm looking for too. Things that MIGHT have happened. KInd of a twilight zone thing...what if? I can think of several occasions that I BARELY avoided death.

I had a heart attack in 2013. My heart stopped . Everything went black. but I was still knew I was me. I thought I had passed out or something. I thought of the time a grapevine broke and I hit my head on a tree. It felt the same way. Then I saw a large a rectangle area. I was wondering what this was, OH it's a field, it's a field of some kind or another. Then I saw a white area in the bottom right hand corner. I wondered, what is that white area in the field. Then it was like, ohh that's ME sitting in the field! What in the world am I doing sitting in a field? Again, ohhh, I'm waiting for someone to come and get me. As I thought that I heard the nurse say,"Put your arms down." I thought, what are you talking about, my arms are down. Then I opened my eyes and my hands were up. I said,"I think I went to la la land there for a min.. She said,"We got you, your OK." It was then I knew what had happened.

@nathandebora That's an amazing story. While I am NOT looking forward to death...I AM looking forward to seeing what comes WHEN I die. From your experience, it sounds like it may be different for everyone. Thank you for sharing.

I have died twice.

Just before, a few brief flashes of light (similar to when you press on your eyes closed, how you get little flashes of light), then nothing.

Both of my deaths were caused by anaphylactic shock, a severe allergic reaction to strong perfumes other people were wearing. I was dead just under 2 minutes the first time, and just barely over 3 minutes the second time.

Please don't wear strong perfumes/fragrances. You could kill someone.

@JannaWhite That's good advice. You might not only kill someone else, you are killing yourself.
Aluminum, and other substances found in deodorants have cancer causing substances.

@bondojoe Yup! There are some chemicals in air fresheners and deodorants and other products that may cause endocrine and immune system issues, too!

I was in a serious accident that put me in a coma for days. When I was twelve I was in a bad bike accident that I only survived through a series of lucky coincidences that managed to work out in my favor. At one point the surgeon operating on me told my parents it was unlikely I would survive. Fortunately, I did though I ended up with a lifelong scar.

Yes. 3 times. Twice from electric shock and once through physical trauma. I will say this, being dead is painless, it's the recovery that hurts.. A lot! I remember the dying vividly. The electrical was just a draining sensation. The trauma was a surprise. I remember thinking "I should feel this". Then blank. Neither had pain till I was resuscitated.

I almost died giving birth to my youngest daughter!
Thing is, I had no idea!!!
I was doing fine after she was out, I was doing fine for 2h after the birth (just laying in bed, waiting for the 3rd hour to pass so I could go home)
Then they wanted me to sign my release papers and when I got up, took 3 steps, I felt dizzy and realized that I was standing in a puddle of my own blood.
Nurses and midwife panicked, doctors rushed in, and then I cant remember.
I did eventually get to leave 10 hours later after being on an IV and stocked up with iron supplements.
I felt dead tired for 3 days and could barely take care of my family. My mom had to step in.
When I went for my check up a week later, the doctor told me that something went wrong and that I was so close to bleeding out, he was surprised they could stop it without having to remove my uterus.
I was about 60 seconds from death!
I was told that I could get pregnant again and have a wonderful pregnancy, but that I would not survive giving birth!

@Vhplac OH BOY,yes, you are reminding me that insurance for having a baby, wants to throw mothers out of the hospital, now, almost the next day,or so--not after ten days in hospital(which moms need to safely recuperate)You need 10 days in hospital, cuz right after birth, something can go wrong with mom's equipment, that will need instant emergency care.--and being home too early, could kill you.--too much can go wrong.I hate that most insurance now won't give mom 10 days in hospital! ffffing insurance!--which could lead to your death. The insurance new moms have is dangerously malpractice-wise!--but try to sue,you can't win!Insurance companies are fffing arss hulls!--in the name of making their profits, they are now leaving moms open to risk of death!(I read this in health info,)so much for "wonderful insurance, instead of paying cash for medical bills>"Yes,insurance covers costs, but its still safer to save up,and pay money,& demand ssfer care..--which means the rich will always get safer, better medical care now.--and you get stuck with 2nd-rate. ...

I was sitting on the drivers side on the hood of a car when I was about 15, chick was supposed to give me a short ride about 4 blocks down the road. I'm not sure wtf she was thinking but she got up to about 50 MPH and started drifting off into the ditch. I figured jump off, tuck and roll. Long story short she ran over both of my legs at the thigh with the back tire of an old 80's Crown Victoria. Didn't even leave a scratch. It was like I was momentarily indestructible. Jumped up like nothing ever happened... you shoulda seen the look on my buddys face.

I'm one of those type of people they call "survivors"thru lots of harrying times many others did not make it.

I used to think I was lucky--but its like making a deal with the devil for a long life--you get it,everyone else is gone--America & the world CHANGE DRASTICALLY--when I was a kid,"mobile phones"and "mobile-computers,ect--"computers-the Internet"-its was all SCIENCE FICTION. "Soylent Green,"it was impossible.-a possible end of the planet??

So some of us lived--right into a science-fiction future-(no flying cars, darn.)Science is exploring Mars, now,Men walked on the moon?Dick Tracy talking into his wristwatch?EUROPE full of middle easterners?Indians?think how Europe IS GONE-LIKE sci-fi!

THE JEWS RETURNED TO ISRAEL--that means,"The Messiah is coming"--one of the signs.

-WHY would we ever think GLACIeRS WOULD MELT?the poles melt?!8 BILLION PEOPLE? Leukemia can be survived--transplanted organs--in 25 yrs, fake kidneys for humans will be real. Our local classical music station goes all over the WORLD on the Net."robotic" limbs for veterans of war.--fingers or hands being sewn back on,and work(fingers do.)If driver-less cars work, while i;'m alive, i want to ride in one.--BRAIN SURGERY that was sci-fi.

Was in a horrific car accident when I was about 20 years old. There were two other passengers in the car at the time. Vehicle rolled over, and yes time does stand still when something that traumatic happens. I woke up laying on the ground with what seemed like hundreds of people standing over me and the others. The driver was fine (figures, was his fault), the other girl wasn't so lucky, my ex sister-in-law had a broken leg and the other was just stunned and was badly cut. Myself I had a huge gash on my chin. Still have the scar today, funny thing is that is in the shape of a peace sign ☮. Spent a week sore as hell, I guess because all your muscles seize up when this kind of thing happens?

I have never wanted to drive and am no good at being a passenger either. I do believe living in a city as crazy as Toronto you are better off not driving honestly.

i can tell it now cause its not my fault.when i was a teen, my dad almost killed me several times, but I lived thru it,I have "submerged memory" about my home life,as a kid and a teen.(did you know Ellen, the lesbian comedian, says she can't remember her childhood?)So this "submerged memory"that people deliberately repress, cause they can't handle it)can remain sunk in your head.It made me clinically depressed as an adult.. smiley

If you have a crazy family smiley (and its not that uncommon I found out, many people have this)it can cause very bad depression as an adult.I only started remembering any thing when i went to a shrink in my 30's;that is the best way to handle it, go get your memory back see a good shrink.it can be very scary, hurt, and not fun.But it can gradually help depression. And you'd be surprised especially women(also young men too,I knew a couple guys)in the population get this a lot.THERE ARE lot of crazy abusive parents (maybe living next door to you,in the 'burbs) nice people to everyone else, but they abuse their kids. smiley

I was in a serious accident that put me in a coma for days. The doctors said because I had just started adolescence my body was incredibly resilient. Even then they said I should have died. If I didn't die I should have been crippled. Because of a very lucky series of events I lived. If any tiny thing didn't work out the way it did I would have died.

Other than a few weird incidents (a seizure and a few times where I couldn't stop my hands from shaking) I've turned out pretty well. I don't have any brain trauma, which I should have.

However...because of my age and what I went through I know it changed my personality. For weeks I was drugged and kept in a room, unable to see anything out the window but the dreary Tim Burtonesque grey New England sky. I felt abandoned and alone. Meanwhile, kids at school that didn't like me wrote about how they were my best friends and hoped I would get better. All of a sudden people tried to act like they knew me. One kid said he was the one that found me and saved my life. The police report said differently, however.
