I started this so I could complain about the way I've recently noticed that videos are being shown on some venues. There's a screen, and it is blacked out on each side, and you get a little tiny sliver of the video that you want to see, between the blacked out sides. Maybe 1/3 of the whole area is used to display any film, and 2/3 bracket it. It's annoying as hell to me. It's pointless, absurd, and irritating. It moves ny focus from what's going on in the middle, to the sides. It defeats it's own purpose, if it's purpose is to focus you on whatevr media is being displayed.

@bondojoe Have you considered the show was set to old TV standard of 4:3 ratio? The most common screens now are 16:9. Called wide screen way back when.
Then again, maybe they just can't afford the electricity to light up the whole screen?

@FemaleLotRfan83 People ask me If I have alergies, and I say no...but them I notice that my eyes are usually watery, and burning, and my nose is usually running...so I guess I do, and just never gave it any thought!

@bondojoe Those are general signs a person has allergies or an allergic reaction.

@FemaleLotRfan83 have you tried to use ucalyptus oil perhaps? the oil is great to help clear up sinus problems and provides relief for the nose.
If you have coconut oil as well it can be mixed and rubbed on the chest, may provide some benifit in these times of allergies.
And i wear a face mask if i need to hoover or dust something where loads of particals will go up the nose once disturbed, eyes its more tough to keep out of though, talking in the past though as i don't really get anything except when one of my family spreads a cold, they are ill for weeks, i am better in a day, food comes in there also to how much your immune system handles reactions and how affected more some can be than others.
I used to suffer real badly when the pollen was high i always used to streak at the eyes and stuff, but i had to have a pollups or something removed from me that caused me to suffer more than usual

@KiaZi You are aware that eucalyptus oil is a very potent toxin. Please don't drink it! Also not a great idea to get it on your skin.

(6y)

@Egor17 it boils down to if one can handle the eucalyptus, there is a thing as allergic reactions as always is the thing to keep in consideration, but generally it is ok for most people, and any medicine on a shelf is all derived from plants of all sorts.
It is used in a wide number of uses according to some sites, most of what is heard is all good for eucalyptus and used also beyond just flus or colds.
don't hear much about the bad sides of this but then thats a few thatare not suited for eucalyptus............for then something like honey would have to second reccomened then, that is also rather good for ailments, organic kind anyway

@KiaZi not sure i have heard myself anything on consuming eucalyptus, only heard to rub some on chest with coconut oil, for consumption mega health you need the pond water tasting powder of Chlorella, that stuff is super healthy on a regular routine, even reiki crystals/pendants to un-block ones Chakras can have a big impact on health, some even have to remove crystals from themselves as they feel so ill, but most do not realise its the crystals that are attempting to remove those blockages, lost my obsidian skrying stone though and the orgone that i wore,

@KiaZi 50+ years and not a single allergy. Eucalyptus is a great cleaner and a few drops in hot water makes a great vapour for blocked noses. Just saying it should not be ingested or used as a skin cream.
Much better as a household cleaner than bleach. Makes your bathroom smell nice too.
It IS highly toxic, don't believe me? try drinking some.. NOT. Really.. Don't.

(6y)

@Egor17 I'm not saying to drink it and as always it comes with the usual if too much is taken than needed then some reactions do occur, but its mostly external, except for the inhaling of the steam fumes, personally i am an external person with oils, even coconut, superfood powders is more my thing.
And yes on medication and discuss with a doctor is always advised.

@KiaZi Before using an essential oil, it is advisable to consult your doctor or have an allergy test done. Also, usage of the herbal oil may interfere with other homeopathic treatments.

@FemaleLotRfan83 That's interesting. In Scotland as a kid in primary school every one was tested for allergies. The nurse had a strange gun looking thing with at least 12 needles. Pressed against your arm. Not sore. Next day your arm was looked at to see what you were allergic to. My arm was a bit red for all of 10 mins.
For years after when asked "What are you allergic too?" as though that was the normal. I'd reply "My little brother!"

@bondojoe Someone in the countryside in the UK wanted a faster connection, but they would not do it unless they payed something around 20odd thousand pounds just to get the wires in that area or something, some just play the waiting game, eventually you get a free upgrade or they eventually run the service for better speeds in the needed area.

@mrkim56 And consider that Ubuntu is probably the biggest resource hog of all the Linux distros. If you want to take advantage of all the Ubuntu apps and repos and run a faster, less graphic intensive OS, look into Lubuntu.

(6y)

@LesStrater Thanks for the heads up but having tried various other distros I always end up coming back to Ubuntu. Having run it for 12yrs now I have a pretty good feel for what I want and need as far as software offerings and can rig out a fresh install in a matter of a few hours with what I know works. Sounds kinda like a Windows users excuse huh? lol

(6y)

@mrkim56 Hey, I'm with you 100%. My main system is Debian, but I usually recommend Lubuntu or Xubuntu to new users because a lot of people panic when they see the Ubuntu Unity desktop. Those two distros also run well on older XP machines.
I backup my entire system every morning so that I'm free to break it without causing a major problem. Using FSarchiver run from a boot CD, I backup the entire partition in 8 mins and restore it in under 3 mins.

(6y)

@LesStrater Yeah I have never run the Unity desktop, just flat out can't stand the layout, much less the circuitous navigational differences. Still runnin on 16.04 w/a Cinnamon desktop environment these days.

Seems like the coolest thing they've done is set things up where users can DL the distro to a USB and run live w/out having to do an install. Letting potential users run a system without wiping out their current OS 1st makes it a no brainer for people to check out Linux.

People!

Mostly the ones that have no idea how the internet works. My computer runs at about 4Ghz. I have a fiber optic to machine from my ISP. Great, ye. But as soon as I access any content, it is only going as fast as the slowest link, like a bus in traffic. Example; 50MBs to the satellite up link, depending on what else they are doing, slows. then there is the down link, then does the subject country have fiber? And then there is the ISP on their end? and then the computer mine is talking to?
Only as fast as the slowest link.
But still, I can have 5+ movies down loading while watching another.
There are still a lot of old servers out there running at 56K.

So my real annoyance is my lack of patience.

Err? What is a Firestick in computer terms?

@Egor17 There's lots of potential bottle necks in what's moving in or out of a machine, that's a given. Some moovies will show up as DLable in a matter of minutes, while others can take hours to DL, even with both being of similar file sizes. This relates to the speed of the server on the UL side of things, and depending on the type of service one has can also relate to how many other machines are ridin the same bandwidth train with the DLer. Hell, even the time of day factors in in this part of the equation, lol.

There are also potential hardware bottle necks within as well as outside of ones own machine that factor into the equation.

Even if you're payin for 1gig FIOS service you'll never get anywhere near the potential of that service if you're runnin a modem, router, or switch that can't process that same amount of incoming data.

Lastly your OS, processor speed, number of cores (hyperthreaded or not?), type/speed and amount of RAM you have and even down to what type of internal capacities your motherboard, and HD cabling are capable of throughputting also factor in to what can come or go in a system, though admittedly to a lesser extent than parameters regarding the incoming/outgoing signal capacities ;>)
