I think up for agree down to disagree. but some people also downvote everything because they don't like that user.

We store data on +1 and -1 votes. Based on this data we show rating.
Vote if you like the review.
Rating is a secondary thing. Content is THE KING)

The score on some of the reviews and comments was skewed recently by an a-hole with many log-ins who cluster-downvoted everything contributed by several regulars. So sometimes you see -25 for no sane reason.
I give a thumbs-up if something is really good. I rarely use thumbs-down, only for a couple seriously nasty comments that don't belong in a site like this.
It's about fun really.

Ahoy.
First off, I apologize if this topic has been covered to death. I searched for it and though there were some tangential threads, I didn't find what I was looking for. Bear with me, please; I'm relatively new to doing anything here besides clicking on links.
The voting system on reviews, I assumed (my mistake) was vote up if it's helpful and I can't really think of a reason to down vote. Is it vote up if you agree, vote down if you disagree? I ask because I've come across many good, down-voted reviews but which don't have any follow-up refutation or discussion.
I like reading what other--wait, what is the correct nomenclature; 2movers?--write and I appreciate the fact people write reviews at all. It's fun to discuss film!
Anyway thanks for any guidance.
