Should men have to put down the toilet seat? (1099 views, 64 replies)

Should men have to put down the toilet seat after urinating? Is it OUR responsibility? Why can't women just lower it? Why do women complain so much about it? Why is it such a big deal? Is it just more demasculinization of men?

You could just put the seat AND the lid down, thereby complying with the female 'seat down' requirement while also ensuring that the ladies have to lift the lid before they sit down, thus everyone gets some small amount of equality in the lifting/lowering requirements vis-a-vis toilet usage.

My favourite subject lol, so when u boys use the toilet (not to urinate) do you then put the toilet seat up before you leave the bathroom?

We have two bathrooms, upstairs is the domain of the Mrs. What she says goes and the seat is always down.

Downstairs...mini mancave. Black and red almost gothic decor. Sink next to toilet for stomach bug/alcohol induced incidents requiring both in use at the same time...and toilet seat always down because the boss says so.

So glad I'm a bachelor! My house, my rules. If you need the seat down, put it down. If you need it up, lift it. Super simple and there's no discussing nor debating the topic here.

Really always thought it was so nonsensical for a woman to get on the rant about "If I walk in there and sit down and wind up in the toilet, there'll be hell to pay!"

Since we all have eyes I say use 'em and do what you need to meet your own needs including looking BEFORE you plop yer butt down smiley

Unless you are actively using the toilet the seat should ALWAYS be down.

Every time you flush aerosolised particles are spewed into the air and will settle on everything - seat, handles, taps, switches, toothbrush, cosmetics, towels...

So you leave the seat up, flush, wash your hands, touch the sh*t covered tap to turn it off, dry your hands on a sh*t covered towel, turn the sh*t covered light off, and close the sh*t covered door - then eat a sandwich with sh*t covered hands. Delicious!

It's not about control - It's about not wanting to ingest somebody else's sh*t.

@uunboundd Crapping in a hole in the ground is actually a bit better than our modern thrones.

Our bodies are supposed to be in that raised-knee squatting position to poop.
And washing with water is more hygienic than toilet roll - especially the primary school tracing paper from the 70s & 80s lol.

I think couples should grow to co-exist and that something so petty should not become an issue. Team work for the toilet seat. If you see it's up and need to use it then put it down. Are you really going to argue with your hubby/partner over the toilet seat all of the time? Good luck with that. I think if these little things bother someone then I would not want to know what the bigger issues are.

We have a "His & Hers" connect to out bedroom and they are bidets so I don't have this issue and even prior to this when we share , I never cared that much. Only when I would wake in the middle of the night half asleep and fall into the toilet bowl would I curse a few times LOL but we would laugh about that because at the end of the day it is funny.

I also too often forget to put the seat back down after cleaning... oops?

Life's too short to give a sh*t about these things and with time a mature adult realizes this. IMHO that is...

If my hubby died tomorrow (God forbid) and the last thing we argued about was the toilet seat being left up... I mean... really?

@3UN01A I think it should work both ways. If no one yells at me for leaving it up, I won't yell at them for leaving it down. If they want me to put it down when I am finished...I want them to put it up when THEY are finished. Complete equality.

I keep the toilet seat down at my house .I have two girls so ,I keep it down for them. It's no biggy to put the seat down in the first place .I cleaned my toilet once and forgot to put it back down and fell right into the toilet, That was so funny to me ,I had to laugh out loud. When I have family over for cookouts ,they forget to put the toilet seat back down and they start fussing over it ,I tell them it's not a big deal and ,that's something not fuss about . They also pee all over my floor and toilet while they are here ,I don't fuss about that to them at all ,I just go into there and clean it up . Now if they poop all over the floor or toilet ,then I'll fuss about that.I like my bathroom to stay clean and when I make a mess or something ,I clean it right away.I also tell my children to clean up behind themselves ,so others don't have to clean up their mess . At home we get alone ,we don't fuss about little thing like the toilet seat being up.if it's up then we just put it back down again (no problem) . ...

Men have to lift seats up all the time, I mean I try to remember to keep mine down anyway just in case of random case of the sh*ts (I do not want to be caught out with that again).

It really is a simple control thing though by some women, my response to the women who get pissy about it is "Women are strong and independent, can't put toilet seat down. Pick one."

@clarachan1355 That is a bunch of bull. By that logic people shouldn't fart because of "air-borne feces". Reading the comments below about mist from flushing, most people don't make a habit of staying in their toilet long after doing their business.

Please note the word "Some", by no means do I think all women are precious little princesses about such things.
