Every time I watch Evita (1996) I’m more and more impressed by Madonna’s performance. At the time people said it was the role she was born to play - the story in some ways parallels her own rise to fame. She disappeared into the role and held her own with much more seasoned actors. Also the soundtrack is fantastic and I think her voice was maybe the best it’s been her whole career. But… she was snubbed by the Academy and didn’t deserve to be. She wasn’t even nominated for an Oscar. As proof she deserved Academy recognition, she was nominated for a Golden Globe for best actress in a musical or comedy and won.
