"Homeless Puerto Rican teen spends birthday helping hurricane victims."

(CNN) Oct 25 — A lot of people in Puerto Rico lost their homes in Hurricane Maria last month.

But one person who’s been helping them was ALREADY homeless.

Christopher Rodriguez turned 19 on Friday in his native Puerto Rico, and he spent his birthday giving -- giving aid to neighbors still struggling a month to the day after Hurricane Maria blasted the island.

His birthday passed with him making care packages for his community in Añasco, Puerto Rico. Saturday, he'll walk those packages across the Hondo River to local residents, as he's been doing for the past few weeks.

In the process of his giving, Rodriguez, who is homeless, has given himself something -- a purpose.

"He's gaining the respect of the community by selflessly giving to people who need it," said Chris Davis, who heads the volunteer group Rodriguez has been working with.
Personal comment: by @caseyanne

As I read this news story, my throat tightened with a flood of emotions.[/b] Most of all pride. Pride in a young man who represents America well ... more than well. Pride in a young man, who could very easily have wrapped himself in self-pity and certainly had more legitimate excuses than Donald Trump, sitting in his big safe white house, not to help his fellow Americans, but instead, readily, with no resentment whatsoever and for no self-serving reason (and those are the key words here) chose to extend a helping hand.

At this point, I could say something about being our brother's keeper, and humanity, and there but for the grace of God ... but, those things require a conscience. And, there's precious little of that in the "big safe white house" in America these days.

Way to go Christopher Rodriguez! You help make the rest of us proud to be an American!

How stupid.
If you think your choices are waiting on others, or doing it yourself, you're only half right. If people don't care enough to get off their own lazy asses, don't expect anyone else to. Blaming Trump just shows what an idiot you are. Maybe you'll blame God next.
Used to be a story like this got ZERO notice, back when people took responsibility for their own well being. Must be sad going through life as a helpless fetus, but at least the democrats didn't abort you.
