This is based on dyatlov pass incident where 9 hikers were found half naked and frozen. Most had bones crushed but no sign of trauma on the outside. They were also covered in radiation. There are books about it and I think one of the authors had Suspicious death hinting at a cover up. There is also a horror movie that I put link below.
