@Adrian∞ I know exactly what you mean. I tried to do the same with a book to hide my weed, 30 years or so ago but not with the Holy Bible. I chose Tax Law instead, being absolutely certain that nobody would even bother opening that book, myself included ( ). The result was.....less than ideal 
I couldnt manage to be consistent with the cutting, leading to some really unorthodox spaces within the book 
After a full day of cutting, I replaced it with a shoe box instead
