I read this a couple of days ago: "Without JD this place would still be viable. Dredd chases all the conservatives away and then wonders why the donations dry up."
Did JD really cause the downfall of DosMovies?
Let's take a closer look at it...
This is not new, but it's just so wrong! I was so utterly shocked by so much narrow-mindedness (German: Borniertheit) that I was speechless. My experience is that I can't compete with these foreign worlds of belief. So I leave it alone.
The bad thing is that such "truths" go viral among folk with whom they fall on fertile ground. I've already heard them here and on reddit - from numerous "believers"...
As I said, you can't fight that. But it calls for a response from an authoritative voice. A recognized expert will be commenting on this topic in the near future.
@CitizenD The simple assumption that people of that particular ilk donate to anything but their own well-being makes that quote questionable to begin with.
@PriscillaParadox🍁 All I know is that political affiliation didn't matter when I announced that I would bring donors (many of whom wanted nothing to do with Bitcoin) together for a joint donation. Members of both "sides" agreed to participate. Because they wanted to keep the site alive.
@CitizenD I always enjoy how people seem to have the inside track on everything, despite the fact that they dont have access to privileged documents and information. I suppose their imagination is more than enough to substitute little tiny details called facts. So here are a couple of these tiny details:
1. Re the donations: Before my mod appointment, the Doc told me that the profit margin of the site is so low that it only manages to pay for the monthly expense of a cleaning lady. I suppose we should attribute that amount to the generosity of the "Conservatives" that I hadnt kicked out yet.
2. Re the membership numbers: The site experienced 3 massive and abrupt drops in membership. Each time corresponded with a period announcing the end of the links. The fact that I took additional steps to limit these numbers even further, didnt really mean a thing considering how many alt accounts had been created by disgruntled former members. It was a war of attrition and they lost, not because they had little determination but because I was doing something they couldnt. I wasnt banning persons, I was banning personas. And the hard core deplorables couldnt live without their instantly recognisable online identity that took years to culminate (i.e. Toonaholic, Pmud, the Dipsh*t, Zedra etc etc). So all their alt accounts gave hints as to their actual online identity, which caused them to be banned again and again and again. All this work on setting up a profile and.......poof, gone in the flick of a button.

Someone else purporting this nonsense:
I asked Dr. Evil last week. His answer to why the links are no longer there was that the site doesn't generate any income and that they aren't worth the risk.
Don't believe everything you think. Would Dr Evil trust his site to someone who would harm it? Think again...
See? A brain is a good thing after all.
The only time this site ever generated 'money' was during the exodus of PW... when its refugees settled over here. THAT was Moobz hayday, period. It is highly unlikely to see those numbers or enthusiasm again. Everyone went back to the dependable old comfy roost.

As I've learned about dealing with rumors at work, you shouldn't let them run wild in the dark. They are dangerous, develop a life of their own and poison the working atmosphere.
So what is one appropriate way to deal with them? You bring them out of the darkness into the light instead of spreading them. COMMUNICATE! You make public what you have heard. If it could harm someone, you can keep the origin a secret.
