Will the gofundme page shame the Liberals into acting? Will the RINO'S act like real Republicans? Will we get a border wall to keep out ILLEGAL ALIENS? And if you don't want one...Why not? No country is secure, if they cannot control their borders. If you DON'T want security...you are an enemy of the United States..whether you live here or not. The Liberals wanted one...until Trump became President...now they oppose one...put our country at risk..simply because of HATE. Hate for Trump... www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-5tu-Jy... www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlfOPvUA...

@deiosa Another senseless statemment. You start with a border. Then you defend it. Do you lock your doors at night? Or do you leave them open for anyone, and everyone to come in?

+5

Report comment
(5y)

@bondojoe And we do defend it. What do you think the border patrol is doing down there? There is about 580 miles of physical fencing with other parts of the border similar to the border with Canada using sensors and drones. Even if you decided to build an actual wall across the southern border (almost 2000 miles long) the cost would, most likely, exceed $15-$25 billion and doubtfully stop people from coming here illegally since they'd simply go around. They built a tunnel UNDER the existing fence to get in. A wall wouldn't have any more effect on the caravan since it was stopped by the much more cost effective fence and border patrol agents.

So, I'm not saying don't defend the border, I'm saying a massive wall isn't going to accomplish what Trump believes it will accomplish.

@deiosa YES, its true the border patrols, drones, sensors MIGHT really work better as a "real virtual wall".Shit, you can tunnel under the solid-physical wall?Yes,the East Germans did that, when the EASTERN WALL was still up.--got a number out, too.

OK, fudge the "actual-wall,"a "virtual-patrolled-effective wall"would be better!!!SOMEONE VOLUNTEER to tell the Pentagon, this, and get the Big P. to tell Trump? He'll listen to the Big War-guys,won't he?OR, we all just email his grown kids, and THEY TELL HIM!I kinda like the women, good dressers.--I'll email, see if anyone owning technology actually listens to it!!heh.

In an ideal world both Canada and Mexico should be like a Schengen travel zone. However, Canada doesn't want retarded paranoid rednecks just walking on in and, paranoid rednecks can't or don't want to learn Spanish so....quite the conundrum.
A paradigm shift in policy would be more effective than any physical wall IMO. If they have a passport or ID, great, give them 90 days, then tell them to GTFO. Just like every other civilized country.
As it is now, Border Control isn't as ineffectual as some folks would lead you to believe. When was the last time there was an illegal terrorist here? You can google it, I'll wait. Any of those 0 people from Latin America?
What's the real threat here? Is there a Mexican ISIS I don't know about? A fruit picker stealing your girl? Too many landscapers with leaf blowers at 7:00am? Seriously...
Do what y'all want man(not that we get to vote on it anyways) but, 5bil would be better spent elsewhere. VA, NASA, healthcare, etc, etc..

@bondojoe I should have said that my original "no" is to the the question the thread heading asked, only, "Will America get its Southern Border Wall."

To be honest, I feel incredibly unqualified and impotent in addressing the many aspects of the "should there be a wall or not". So my answer was not to any aspect of that.

I apologise that I did not stipulate that, as that would have been more respectful. My only excuse is that not being able to simply put a "No" wasn't allowed, and then I got lost in making up other words to fill up the space in minor frustration, which may have come a cross as cheeky or flippant, neither of which I intended.

It's a tough issue and I can see that you are motivated by a deep love for the preservation of your own heritage.

I hope you will take some joy with lived one's in the next few days.

But why stop with a Southern wall?

Why not build a Northern wall to keep out the threat of those hostile Eskimos. And an Eastern wall in case those dodgy Greenlanders, Icelanders and not to mention those gun hating Europeans decide to get wanderlust and try to discover the country again.

And finally a Western wall, but no need to build it on the coast. Just move it east a little and you could manage to block out those vile Liberals living in California with all their arty farty ideas and drugs, and sure half of them are Mexicans anyway.

Then when all the walls are up the last thing you will need is a roof and a door. It will be Home Sweet Home for those true Americans who have pure American blood from thousands of years of living off the land of patriots and Native Americans.

God bless THAT America and good luck with your dream.

@..box.. A simple comment, from apparently a simpleton. Countries that don't have natural barriers to their borders, DO have artificial ones. We have the oceans on the west and east coast for protection, and the coast guard, and the United States Military to patrol them. If Canadians become a menace, or terrorists start coming in THROUGH the Canadian border, then a wall will be applicable there too. The air force and the Marines defend our skies. Your comment was just an attempt to look clever, and to try and make me look bad. It had no substance at all. God help you, and God Bless America.

The comment was meant to highlight your isolationist viewpoints and scaremongering stance in relation to an enemy you need to invent in order to give meaning to your political agendas.

I must say this discussion is pretty dynamic. A northern wall sounds silly but its not. Look at it this way, its not the cost of the wall and who will pay, its the government contracts and the companies that will profit from the project. As i write this i feel kinda dumb, how did Trump make his fortune, well it was given to him but he was a real estate developer. I smell something fishy, reminds me of Haleburton and Dick "head" cheney. Its not to far off to envision a terrorist crisis necessitating a northern wall.

A quick calculation based on the gofundme.com/TheTrumpWall information.

Started: 17th December 2018

Raised: $20 Million

Today: 12th January 2019

Number of days raising funds = 25 days (during the most generous time of the year)

Estimated cost of wall: $5,000 Million

$20 Million/25 days = $0.8 million per day

$5,000 Million/$0.8 million = 6,250 days

6,250 days/ 365 days = 17 years (approx) to raise the $5,000 Million necessary.

And I think you meant to say the estimated cost is 5b but even that's incorrect. That figure is only what Trump's holding federal workers and their families hostage for. The real cost is north of 20b... as much as 80b for the 2000 mile southern border.

"I would build a great wall, and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me, and I’ll build them very inexpensively. I will build a great great wall on our southern border and I’ll have Mexico pay for that wall."

@bondojoe Was that what Trump intended in his speech, I wonder (again)?

It sounds like he meant the Mexican Government.

He does say "...and I’ll have Mexico pay for that wall." suggesting the country and not a bunch of Mexicans who like American products.

Interesting ....

@bondojoe So, just to make it box simple, Trump was not suggesting that the Mexican Government would pay for the wall, he was suggesting that the legal immigrants who are buying American products and those Mexican citizens who are buying the American products are paying for the wall.

Yet we have a Government shutdown because Trump wants the American Government to give him $5,000 Million American Dollars to build a wall and not one Mexican Peso.

And 800,000 American tax payers out of work whose taxes can't be used to pay for the wall because they are not paying taxes.

Could that be right?

@..box.. Of course it's wrong. We have a shutdown because Liberals REFUSE tom protect the American border. And Mexico IS going to pay for the wall. And it's going to cost them a lot more than it would have, had they been decent about it. WE can crush Mexico ecomonically anytime. When Trump builds the wall...they will soon be BEGGING to pay for it. There are not 800,000 people out of work. About half that. And as far as fake news...I posted SEVERAL stories today from the FAKE MEDIA...lying that the gofundme wall fund was being retuned. The bigger question is...why do you care what happens in America...and why do you support ILLEGAL ALIENS...over the people of America?

@bondojoe Because of the lies JOE.

Because the Democrats (let's call them by their real name) are NOT refusing to protect the American border. The American border has been there for Donkey's years and will be in the future.

If Mexico is going to pay for the wall, why not get them to send a bank transfer to the White House? Because it is not going to happen. They will never pay for it.

DT wants the American to pay for his toy and put his name on it as a legacy - an expensive one. Probably he has no need for a library in his name as his reading is minimal.

There is no interest from any political Party to crush Mexico. Another false claim.

We have seen how long the GOFUNDWALL will take - 17 years. Long after you and Trump and me.

And I love illegal immigrants - (please do not call them ALIENS - it dehumanises them and they are very human that are in need and running away from poverty - because I was an illegal immigrant before Spain joined the EU properly and I met a lot of good people from South America that shared my values.

@FemaleLotRfan83 The immigration laws and the concept of "legal" has changed over the centuries in America.

Did your ancestors come to America in the 18th Century, for example? Congress in 1790 passed the first naturalization law for the United States, the Naturalization Act of 1790. The law enabled those who had resided in the country for two years and had kept their current state of residence for a year to apply for citizenship. However it restricted naturalization to "free white persons" of "good moral character".

The "laws" were very loose (to begin with) and there was NOT paperwork necessarily involved in coming to America, and the laws have changed significantly from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.

To say that your ancestors came to America "legally" might have just meant, they came over, waited the specified amount of time, and fit the criteria, and applied.

Being a 62yr old Texan whose lived my entire life here, let me share a perspective and some thoughts on the issue of illegal immigration and a wall on our southern border.

Being a native Dallasite (somewhat central Texas) I've never experienced what ranchers and farmers along our border w/Mexico commonly go through, but have read a lot about what they go through and am damned glad I don't share their shoes.

Having their land routinely trespassed upon, essentially having no real privacy even in their own homes, fences and gates being torn down, trash strewn all over their property, armed confrontations w/coyotes and other drug and human smugglers, loss of crops, livestock, family members assaulted, killed and raped, having to periodically deal with medical emergencies and even the death of illegals on their property and in general an overall lack of anything resembling safety on their own land are all too common occurrences experienced by those living in this area along the Texas-Mexico border.

If I had my druthers and was the one making the call on what to do regarding our current state of affairs on the border, immigration and the asylum seekers I'd lock down the border as best as possible and shut down all further immigration until the current case backlog of visa/immigration/asylum cases were completely adjudicated.

Then and only then could we revisit the concept of immigration reform.

If we allowed in any and everyone who wants to be here, regardless of whether they actually want to be an American or not, the line would stretch 1/2 way around the globe. People can say "we need to show more compassion" to the immigrant communities all they want but what about taking care of our own people 1st?

How compassionate are we when we have vets committing suicide every day simply because they can't get the care they deserve and need? How compassionate are we when we have literally millions of homeless people living on the streets living in boxes in alleys, parks and eatin outta trash cans cans and dumpsters? How compassionate are we when we have seniors livin on dog food, dying from hypothermia in the cold and the heat? How compassionate are we really when we ignore these issues our own citizens go through, yet are told we need to focus more on the ills and welfare of people who don't even have a legal right to be in this country?

Some statistical data that always seems so very telling is how libs, who are always so quick to demand how our tax dollars must always be directed towards helping the down trodden of the rest of the world and how we conservatives are so insensitive to their plight, yet statistics constantly bear out that conservatives consistently donate more to charities with our own (post-tax) money, which they do not, but are always hot on the prospect of using other peoples tax $$ to fund/pay their ideas/ideology ... all while claiming to be themselves the most caring sector of society.

I completely fail to understand what the appeal of a border wall is. Ignoring the politics of who it's supposed to keep out, think of it like a prison fence, in a prison where the prisoners have free access to tools like shovels and ladders not to mention airplanes. What keeps the prisoners in a normal prison is the guards making sure nobody's climbing over the fence, so unless this border wall is to be continuously guarded throughout its length, it's just an inconvenience to be gone over or under. If you're going to place guards all down the border anyway, why spend the billions? Maybe it's because I'm Canadian, living north of the world's longest unprotected border but I can't help but think that building the world's second 'great wall' seems like a fool's errand.

@crake You can read the stats about the crime, drugs, and disease coming over our border. There will need to be surveilance, but with the wall, not nearly as much. Make them come through a checkpoint...make everyone obey the law, and be vetted. If you have no enforced border...you have no country. Canada will soon need border enforcement... where access is available. The same people that are coming here...wil come there.

@crake Ok, let's look at this in a slightly different light. No one, not even President Trump is asking, nor intending to build a 2000 mile long wall across the southern border. Instead, what's planned is a border wall in those places where it's been well established that a wall would be an effective deterrent, coupled with drone surveillance, ground sensors and actual manpower on the ground in other areas to best insure an overall effective border protection strategy is in place.

To your last point, perhaps the fact you Canooks can indeed have the longest unprotected border on earth is because we Americans, unlike OUR southern neighbors aren't seeking to overrun YOUR country and drain it dry of its generous resources.

I mean if your southern neighbor was say, North Korea, Syria or even Mexico and you cats had to deal with hordes of people trying to stream illegally across an unprotected border I do hafta wonder how different your thoughts might then be?

Just read a comment on another friends post and the comment said, “Where’s the fire?”...as in reference to building the wall/more technology on the border states.

Let me tell you where the fire is: The “fire” is finding dead bodies on your ranch, the “fire” is finding domestic pig ears in your drinkers when there isn’t a domestic pig for 25 miles, the “fire” is waking up to unknown people talking in your attic, the “fire” is dogs barking all night when your closest neighbor is 7-25 miles depending on the direction to just realize there are people outside your barn, the “fire” is having to come home after dark and have to carry a rifle to go feed your livestock after BP tells you that they only caught 9 of the 15 they are looking for. The “fire” is making a choice...do I take my child with me to a dark barn to feed and hold the flashlight or lock him in the house, so you lock him in the house and call a friend to let them know he’s home alone and if they don’t hear back from me to come check on us. The “fire” is you don’t feel comfortable letting your child play outside without being in eyeshot of them. The “fire” is having large drug busts on your ranch. The “fire” is feeling sick to your stomach every time the helicopter swirls your house because you know they are chasing people because you can hear them on the speaker talking to them. The “fire” is seeing the BP camera set-up 1/2 mile from your house. The “fire” is coming home after dark...your children are driving in front of you as one is of age to drive, and there are officers on your road watching illegals 1/4-1/2 mile from your house and you have to call your children and tell them to keep driving, don’t stop at the house. The “fire” is coming home to your backdoor wide open.
