They are a breed that needs to be well socialised. <br> <br> That's not a negative, it just means they value "home" and need to have safe boundaries set and socialisation helps immensely. <br> <br> Their "negative" rap comes from people who WANT them to be aggressive or neglect their socialisation. <br> <br> I've had many so called "fighting" dogs. With me they were serene, yet territorial in some ways, but always looked to me as the alpha as in "is it ok?". <br> <br> As long as I was cool, they were. <br> <br> I love them. <br> <br> Woof!
@ Yea it's funny you say that because my mums dog (blacky he was called)was the same, even though his family was domesticated and probably the bloodline was too, they still end up dropping into that pack routine, kinda fascinating that none pack animals would use it. :o
@ The only reason they do fight is to please their owners. Pits go out of their way to be good dogs. If you teach them and treat them when they fight then of coarse they will fight. I'm sure that is with many breeds not just Pits. They are truly the most unique breed of dog I've been around especially for their capacity of showing emotions. They really are misunderstood

My sister has a Pitbull hes a sandy coloured one he's called Bentley but when i shout him i call him Scooby Doo and the big oaf answers me, i call him that because he reminds me so much of Scooby Doo from the cartoons hes just a massive softy very loud but soft,she has had trouble with him in the past i don't mean he's nasty i meant that his breed was in question and the police took him for about 2 weeks, when i asked my sister about it they was doing "tests" we are still not sure what those are today but whatever they were he passed with flying colours so i can only guess they were something to do with testing his aggression but as we told them i i just said here he's literally just as play dough hence the reason i called Scooby Doo, she has kids now and still he remains placed as the day she got him, oh yea because of the rules in UK she has a licence to have him and he's microchipped... yea i love that daft dog. xD

I've never owned one, but I have had a few friends that have and they are the softest creatures ever. <br> One of my friends Pit sat with her cat when she gave birth, helped to wash the newborns and then stood guard if Mum went off for food or a wander. I swear he thought he was the father, although it was more the case that he thought he was one of Tracy's kids. He was so funny too - if he was in a room and anyone farted he would hang his head in shame and leave the room, because his stank so much if he smelt someone else's he thought he had done it. Wouldn't eat dog food - had to have whatever his family were having for tea. <br> If he sat next to you on the sofa he would sit up like a human, usually with his head on your shoulder. <br> They lost him a few years ago to cancer, but he was about 10 at the time so a pretty good age for a dog - but even now it seems strange when I visit her and am not immediately greeted by 6 stone of dog trying to get on my lap.

@⭐️janerosity⭐️ That is too sweet of a story. I can totally see a Pit being that way. My terrier does the shame thing if you say shoo-wee and wave your hand around your nose. They are so funny. Our oldest Pit is 14 years and she is probably the healthiest of our dogs. <br> Thank you for sharing your story with us

That is your experience with pit bulls; but one of my friends who was a nice guy,and never trained dogs to attack, had a Xmas party one time.I noticed a small,young, pretty dog with a big red bow on,and my friend said,"That is my new young pitbull."A lot later, he told me he had to get rid of the pitbull because it had attacked his German sheppard, and hurt it badly.I knew he wasn't training the pitbull to attack, so it didn't make sense.

<br> There were so many CHILDREN in California being attacked badly by pittbulls,one town or county outlawed them completely.There were too many attacks on people who didn't train pittbulls to be fighting animals,nobody could figure out WHY THESE ANIMALS suddenly fly off the handle and attack people they are around all the time.One dog-breeder said that when pittbull puppies start to be mature adults in their 2nd year, then they can get aggressive just from their new hormones.

<br> You also can't intrude on a male pittbull when he is ready to breed with a female, because in these cases the dog sees it as "you are attacking or something bad," and he thinks he's protecting the female from outsiders.---so he attacks you.These are not just "ordinary dogbites", which is why they can't be treated that way.I know of too many pittbulls who WERE NOT trained to attack,by any human,but they did it any way.--So these must be a certain amt. ...

@ nO, HE DID NOT KNOW PITTBULLS NEED A HANDBOOK TO OPERATE SAFELY--OWNERS DON'T SELL ONE WITH THE DOG.
@clarachan1355 Actually, any companionate animal should be researched before introduction into any household and that's the responsibility of the potential "owner". :)
@clarachan1355 Anybody being attacked by a dog is awful! I do think a lot of attacks are by other breeds as well. Chows are know to turn on their owners. My Pits are 14 years and 6 years old and I have never seen a vicious bone in their bodies, quite the opposite. My 6 year old submits to my year old Carin Terrier. Now I haven't had experience with male pits personally so I cannot comment on them. There are also people out there that may not train their dogs to attack but may physically punish their dogs or keep them on chains both are known to make aggressive dogs. Dogs can also be aggressive on a leash if their owner is yanking and pulling them. I do agree all dogs should be socialized as puppies. My thing is, is that can't blame all attacks on just the breed itself....that isn't fair.

@Teeny💋 Awwww this is how our Pit was with other animals and had zero aggression. She was even attacked by another dog and didn't fight back. Damn I miss having these angels in our home. Thanks for sharing ;)
@3UN01A There is a reason they are angels....dog spelled backwards! <br> Our oldest Pit is the peace keeper, if we take her to the dog park she interjects if any dogs are fighting. She will stand between them to make them stop.
