The British Monarchy - what is the point of it? Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO) (442 views, 26 replies)
A word to the MRC ( Media Research Centre )
• according to The Center for Media and Democracy, covering the participants of Trump's July 2019 Social Media Summit: "MRC's "NewsBusters website... has posted white nationalist screeds. The site is currently flooded with stories slamming Democrats’ impeachment efforts...." [source: www.sourcewatch.org/index.php/Me... ]
•The MRC rejects the scientific consensus on climate change, and criticizes media coverage that reflects the scientific consensus as "biased".
•Current MRC president Brent Bozell called [although in a pseudo hypothetical manner] President Obama on Fox News (Dec.2011) a "skinny ghetto crackhead" [source: Reuters 23rd Dec. 2011]
and many , many more.
Altogether the MRC can bee seen as the biggest pseudo scientific deliverer to weaponize ultra right wing argumentation against "liberal" media. The particular danger of orgaizations like MRC is that they throw smoke grenades not in the fields of information, but in fact checking itself.

Now to the links: before i made these accusations this morning i tried like 20 times to repeat it. All with the result that just putting the cursor in the text box opened the link. I tried to exclude any mistakes on my side.
Nevertheless a few others could not repeat the effect later.
Basically it`s a technique to disturb chatrooms and threads by making it impossible for a while to answer to a post by forcing a link by auto paste. the codeline itself popped up before redirecting for lets say a tenth of a second.
Basically these forced redirects can be done in Java as well as in html. (i will not show any codes here )
OF COURSE it is just the "normal" (Wiki) link you posted. Thats not the point. The crucial point is on the MRC site. IF they know that users are redirected from a specific unwelcome site (e.g. dosmovies.com)these may be preselected to get the code snippet attached, if they click once on MRC site.(mention: i didnt use a VPN this morning)
What this "unwelcomeness" is based on is speculation. might be MRC or the linker.

Last but nor least: It is VERY smelly first to hail John Oliver and Last Week Tonight just to discredit him in the next sentence with the help of ultra right wing sources.
Oliver himself frequently said he is not a jounalist. (quote: "“I wouldn’t say I’m a basketball player because I like basketball”)
good link to the Oliver/Journalist topic:
variety.com/2018/tv/news/john-ol...
the essence: Despite his protests, Oliver might just be seen as a non-traditional member of the Fourth Estate.
do not touch!!
Although I appreciate the clarifications, may I remind all of you that Politics is banned in the site?
On the subject of the sticky auto link, it doesnt appear that cabezondemelon acted with prior knowledge or malice and certainly cannot be held accountable for the actions of a third party site. As such no action will be taken on this subject matter.
Wait, No Beatings??? I came to see some kinda royal beatdown. Well this is def quite disappointing. *flounces away, pouting*
I am not sure which was more comical - John Oliver's take on the relevance of the British Monarchy or cabezondemelon's deflection into ... WTF?
After watching the video, one would be well aware of Oliver's opinion on the instutition. Keeping in mind that he is British and his main audience is American, I think he managed to humorously highlight the popularity of the Royals in England and also show that they are not without their detractors.
But the fact is that the Royal family have become celebrities since the era of Diana and are known more for the scandals and manipulation of the media that for the good work that some of them do.
The Crown is a wonderful dramatisation of some events connected to them and how the institution was above the family.
@---BOX--- Sensationalism at any cost is his MO. He even tried to create controversy on a REQUESTS thread.
Requests should be controversy free. It's just above and beyond rational.
Having a royal family as head of state might have its difficulties, but when we see the expensive fiasco some countries have in choosing a president... it speaks for itself!

The usual funny and educational take by Mr. Oliver. Food for thought.
