In the final meeting of our series of books from and about AMERICA, we look at a country at war, the collapse of the health care system, how stupidity became a virtue and finally the American addiction to "infotainment" and flights of reason

You may be right T - these 4 books are on my reading list for 2020/2021 along with the books from the threads America - The GOOD and America - The BAD.

Some may consider this as negativity, but I think it is important to present the country in all its dimensions, written by Americans who know what they are talking about, so we can understand what is happening.

So sad to see the riots on the streets.

These are troubled times, and history keeps repeating itself.

Stay safe where ever you may be.

@---BOX--- If we are talking about books about national culture written by the natives, a must read is "The Undutchables: An Observation of the Netherlands: Its Culture and Its Inhabitants"

www.goodreads.com/book/show/3156...

If you have lived, visited or even have a Dutch friend whom at times may look a bit eccentric by comparison, this book will explain why that is. Its a golden comedy gem !!!

@JudgeDredd Thanks for the recommendation Mandale. I have a Dutch friend living here, so I'll see how he compares to the book.

Thanks for that. I am gonna give a try with the Idiot America. I was looking for a funny book ever since I run across the best thesis I have ever read:

THE BASIC LAWS OF HUMAN STUPIDITY
by Carlo M. Cipolla

@JudgeDredd So true.

"It is my firm conviction, supported by years of observation and experimentation, that men are not equal, that some are stupid and others are not, and that the difference is determined by nature and not by cultural forces or factors. One is stupid in the same way one is red-haired; one belongs to the stupid set as one belongs to a blood group." smiley

For some reason, I could hear John Oliver's voice when I read this.

Fantasyland: How America Went Haywire: A 500-Year History

“The single most important explanation, and the fullest explanation, of how Donald Trump became president of the United States . . . nothing less than the most important book that I have read this year.”—Lawrence O'Donnell.

@Javi This looks like the ideal companion book to the ones above, with a title that perfectly fits in with the current administration's idea of running the country.

Already downloaded.

Thanks Javi.

I also came across a discussion on Reddit with the author of:

The Toddler in Chief: What Donald Trump Teaches Us about the Modern Presidency

books.google.gr/books/about/The_...

If the book is as smart and concise as its author, it should be a really good read.
