Slightly harder word game (5423 views, 984 replies)
@delamitri Well those sound yummy! I had to g00gle it though, we don't have that confectionery company here.
@gallanted Looks like she and I worked that last one together. We do that sometimes. 🤗
To Delamitri, I failed to follow instructions to post word on OVERDUB. I now correct myself with:
VATU
(Currency of Vanuatu)
Will PureVodka respond now?
@MOGGSWITH2Gs didn't follow instructions: The Penultimate Letter is 'O'. The word shd hv ended with 'O'.
To Delamitri my response word is:
XENIAL
I suggest if a member didnt follow instructions in REPLY-WORD, the next wordsmith cannot take it as a base. Maybe the wrongdoer should be bypassed perhaps. What do others say?
@delamitri You need to start a magazine or something you're brilliant with all the groups you know! Seriously!
@delamitri I need one of those right about now. All my things are packed away for the move Saturday and I've no tea, no coffee, help me, I'm fading away....eeeecccckkkkk.
@delamitri Oh wow, I never knew that was the proper name for that "condition".
I think Marty Feldman was one of the few people that could do that intentionally.
@TRCIII Actually you should do it from the last play, which in this case would be Naevous. :)
It's not a big deal, I actually get all the games mixed up at times when I'm playing them consecutively. lol
Actually, I didn't get mixed up, I gave up. Rather than use (stictly-speaking) French words like the previous folks did (Adieu, Aboirdeau, and even Aperçu, except they didn't bother with putting the cedilla on the 'c') I took the path of least resistance and deferred back to the previous word, per the instructions at the beginning.
I noticed words needing to end in 'u' being particularly problematic, here. I'll grant that chateau is often used by English speakers...but like so many of our words, it really isn't an English word either. We just borrowed it from the French, like all those others above. And I'd argue that Urdu, also used earlier, is potentially a proper noun. So, since I'm not certain when, exactly, a "stolen" word become part of our language...(maybe when it ends up in an English dictionary? Is there a rule?) I'm not truly comfortable using them in word games with "strict" rules.
So, I deferred to the previous word. ...

@TRCIII You've misunderstood me.
I was not criticising and this game is very casual.
I got busy but was about to post on your word regardless.
I was being friendly and just letting you know in case you didn't understand.
Naevous is not a French word, it has a Latin root and means birthmark and the Irish use it to mean "freckled".
Torrac POSTED the game, but he is not the games creator.
Let's continue on in the meantime.
:)
I wasn't questioning your word; as a former medic, who spent some time in a dermatology rotation, I'm familiar with the latin roots and have seen more than most folks. I was questioning all those words previously used by others that ended in 'u'. Every one I found was (in my mind)...questionable.
So, I thought I was playing by the rules when I deferred back.
I wasn't angry at you, and I appreciate that you were giving me good guidance. I've seen you on the chat, regularly, and although I'm pretty certain we've never spoken there before, I'm glad to have had this opportunity to discuss this topic with you and "meet" you virtually, at last.
But I still can't think of any strictly-English words ending in 'u', starting with 'a'. Ecru is one of the few I can think of that start with ANY letter in the alphabet...and even though it's been an accepted part of the language for nearly a couple-hundred years, I still get an OCD-induced twinge when I think about using it in a game like this one.

@TRCIII I understand.
Nice to meet you as well. :)
We're all glad to have you play this game and any other you wish to partake in.
:)
@delamitri I cooked this last week and it turned out great. Very long cooking in the pressure cooker!
Again I must revert to the previous proposal due to technicial difficulties in reading the comment
Barbigerous
@---BOX--- Great word. I looked it up and learned that I am definitely not this word. 😁
@delamitri Only for the hairy ones who can't afford a razor in these cut throat days.
@---BOX--- Oh my goodness, would have to be a hermit someplace very remote these days.
@---BOX--- Most certainly.
This ^^^^ is Dirk.
Dirk has a head.
Dirk has one eyeball.
This ^^^^ is Dirk.
@---BOX--- Dirk is actually a fine, feathered friend! I never fret, or become frantic, when my fantastic fellow flies!
lol
@delamitri Ladies, ladies, ladies ... can we keep the mammary glands discussions as short as possible, otherwise us menfolk may have to include words concerning penile disfunction and the perennial premature ejaculation of stuff out of my tiny box window. And it will be very difficult to come back without that vision, I can assure you
@delamitri I don't have it now, had to pass it on to a Nepalese monk who thought it might be useful chatting up the hords of American female Mount Everest on their way back from the spiritual experience.
I had already memorise it during that misspent childhood with the drug gangs and cocaine (You reminded me yesterday). I had forgotten all about Miami and the lads. Therapy works!
@---BOX--- Uh oh, that sounds like repression therapy. RB and I have a way of reversing that technique without meaning to. Soon you'll be spilling all of your forgotten past.
@delamitri To be honest D, it sounds a bit scary when you put it like that. The plan was to leave it in the past and live in the now - what's all the rage with Mindfulness and positive psychology. You'll have to come up with something better that that hocus pocus.
@delamitri Correct me if I am wrong but leprechaun are not shape shifters and so a raven cannot be classified as such.
[SPOILER] -- Don't tell the evil one
so effectively I come up with a word that begins and ends in "b"? you leave me little choice and I shall opt for ...
Bracejob (sorry, no picture for this)
@Lurkio I do not know of any words that begin with a and end with v.
ATV cannot be used because it is an acronym.
Therefore, starting over! :)
@---BOX--- LOL ... well it's something dog's do without any addition of any spices whatsoever...
Yum yum.
@delamitri LOL, they had the (murder) corsets for that very purpose.
Make any waist 17" and all boobies spill out of yer top full!
Haha!
@---BOX--- It's so true, isn't it? I notice it even more after I've been to France, where I go fairly regularly.
I've never been a drinker for multiple reasons (firstly I hate the taste of alcohol), but more importantly, I've seen too many people in this country do really stupid things whilst intoxicated that lead to destroyed relationships.
:(
@---BOX--- Thank you very much.
It's listed under "Hatebase" as [SPOILER] .. www.hatebase.org/vocabulary/bazu...
I also noted that whilst the term infers the peoples from the Muzungu, it can further mean [SPOILER] :)
@---BOX--- LOL now that you said that, I remember about the various animals and insects that can switch sexes and self-impregnate. :)
@delamitri I take it as some kind of [SPOILER] cos if you be having probs with the ol electric company, you can always talk to Big Bird - he sort u out
@---BOX--- Oh no, all is well here. I just meant that things I can't see don't bother me. All groovy. 😊
@delamitri An excellent philosophy to live by D. Me? I am one god damn nosey son of a b**ch. Got that off my chest so I go peeking when the lights are on or off. My natural Magnun PI instincts (although I would be more of a Holmes fan myself)
Enema (back to those medical procedures in the nether regions - photo to be provided)
@---BOX--- I'm still constantly amazed at words and how limited our vocabularies are when there are such a bounty.
They've been my obsession since I was a small child. haha
@torrac Did you mean avatar or is that word something else? Just curious if it has another meaning. :)
@---BOX--- The A/I combination is tough and I am not in the mind to conquer it at the moment.
I'll leave it for now. :)
@delamitri There are lots of big, swimming rodents like this in South America... like the capybara. :)
Nice one, by the way.
@---BOX--- When I was younger and pretty dumb, this was a word we used often about people we perceived as posers. 😆
@---BOX--- We called them oogles. We meant wannabe punks, or posers. Like I said, I was pretty dumb.
@delamitri Well, to be honest I made up the martini bit so if you get a strange look from your local, friendly barman the blame the doc in the box. Who is on friendly terms with the cat in the hat, and the dog in the bog
If we want to be like a permanet ewe feature on here we need to get someone who knows how to do this;
narcissize
Maybe the cat in the hat cos I don't the the dox in the box will have an effing clue - a bit of an eejit if you ask me!
Ghetto
And to celebrate the few words that we can begin with an "H" we have ...
... one of my favourites from the King
@delamitri Which one:
1 : an unknown person : stranger.
2 : a large oily soft-fleshed food fish (Stenodus leucichthys) related to the whitefish and found in Alaska, northwestern Canada, and adjoining Siberian waters.
Please tell me it is number 2.
@delamitri I want to hear that you are not a cannibal from Hokeysville and doing these word games while doing an Ossobucco from some poor eejits leg (would go well with fresh asparagus and mushroom risotto if you were wondering)
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
I have been thinking and looking at all the words that have been proposed here and it is an amazing list.
I have also noticed that due to the rule of the second letter, we have covered most of the words beginning with vowels along with the letters that usually follow these vowels. All well and good.
But there are a whole host of letters that will infrequently appear due to the fact that they don't appear in the second position of a word eg, F, H, J, K, Q, V, W, X, Y and Z.
We are avoiding words beginning withe these and so limiting the pool.
Any suggestions to incorporate these poor lost letters into this Slightly Harder word game? Would it make it too easy? too difficult?
Just putting it out there (and I know torrac set it all up so he/she would have final say of course)
Ciao
@---BOX--- Rather than use the second letter of the previous word (which in English predominantly tends to be either a vowel or one of a small subset of consonants) to start the next word, why not use the third letter instead, as this should still include the vowels, but also give us a larger selection of consonants to work with?
@---BOX--- I like @Lurkio's and your ideas here. Rather than ask torrac to change his game though, you could start this as a whole new game. I would definitely play.
@---BOX--- Hahaha, starting the morning off right when I can get a growl out of Monsieur Box.
@delamitri Are we going back to the kinky stuff again. I'll have to get the reference book and the KS so I can follow it. OK continue ....
@delamitri Is it morning over there? Not trying to tell something after the dinner invitation?
@delamitri Well it's morning somewhere in the world - here soon as a matter of fact. Just waiting up to make sure the oldest gets home safe and sound 3:17 AM
@---BOX--- The next one is soooooooo difficult, I bet no one will get it and I will be declared the outright winner and champion of the universe (but not including Alabama, Texas nor Arizona).

senior guru
This game is slightly more taxing on the brain, hence the title.
Using the Previous Word, START a New Word with the SECOND LETTER
Then END your Word with the PENULTIMATE LETTER (next to last).
For Example :
Previous Word = rUbbiSh
New word = UniteS
Previous Word = wAr
New word = ArmadA
In the event a word cannot be found, defer back to the Previous Word.
(As always, No Proper Nouns, Brand Names, Peoples Names,
hyphenations, abbreviations nor acronyms are allowed.)
First Word :
confused
