Bios, especially music bios, are my favourite kind of movies, and the casting can really make or break them. Bad casting can ruin the illusion that a biopic needs to create for the viewer to immerse themself in, much like sitting too close to the stage at a tribute concert is less of a great experience than staying a few rows back. Elvis has been miscast so many times; probably as many times as Marilyn Monroe. I think this is pretty good casting...now, and I’m glad Elton realized Tom Hardy is nothing like him despite his fantastic acting skills. Tom is far too handsome and dangerous-looking, even when he’s just being photographed as himself, and when he was being considered for this role, it left me wondering if Elton had ever actually looked in the mirror, lol. Also, Hardy’s voice is nothing like Elton’s, and that’s just his speaking voice, and he’s not an impressionist, but this little guy is pretty near perfect, and the clips I’ve seen so far are very impressive. He’s the right size and face shape and can easily be made into an Elton doppelgänger. ...
