Amazon Prime Free Video is being pimped. New ad free vids are now $2.99 extra. *Jeff Bezos must need a penis submarine this year?👺

‘’Dear Prime member,

We are writing to you today about an upcoming change to your Prime Video experience. Starting January 29, Prime Video movies and TV shows will include limited advertisements. This will allow us to continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time. We aim to have meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers. No action is required from you, and there is no change to the current price of your Prime membership. We will also offer a new ad-free option for an additional $2.99 per month* that you can sign up for. *link ’’

LOL...isn't it ironic? I remember when subscription tv first came out. I signed up for it as did everybody else just on the promise to have an ad free experience while watching a movie or a tv show. At the time, ads were the plague of mainstream media, making blockbusters like the Basic Instinct last 4 hours on account of 20 min ads every 10 min of movie. Then they decided to offer "limited" ads before and after a movie and now they are emulating the very same service they were competing against. smiley

The interesting thing here is that the main subscription based providers are also Producers, which means that the increase in the subscription is not on account of "investing in compelling content" but actually producing the content itself. At 200 million subscribers that constitutes an enormous amount of profit. Even if just a quarter of their subscribers opt in for the new system, they still make a cool 150 million dollars per month extra.

Foreigners are often shocked by the ''lack'' of advertising in swedish television, i didnt realise that some american shows i saw as young wasnt edited weirdly, but the commercials where cut out smiley

Lol if anything there should be a cheaper version you could get with ads on. And just leave the other stuff be. But the way they're going it is just bs.
