It was my parents, oldest sister, myself and my four Brothers. We lived together in somewhat small homes, so sharing was KEY in our home and my parents put up with nothing less. Growing up poor in very rural areas and a family of a working farmer and a maid/housewife, was definitely a struggle.
Living in a small community can be a wonderful, scary and intense experience. Being a minority made the struggle even harder. I never knew where I stood with any of my classmates, especially those that were closest to me. I write this to say that in a dominantly white community, I hardly stood a chance in education and especially the social scene. Therefore, my father instilled in us all the best of teachings as possible. Our first language was spanish, we all learned english in school. (amon
