✯ It was mid-October when I first spotted them.They were the first Christmas decorations of the year. It was the beginning of the 10 week period when the stores do all they can to get us to buy all we can. It was the great Christmas shopping rush and the bigger the gifts the better. I shook my head sadly and walked on, but then a wonderful memory came back into my mind. It was late-December from several years earlier. I was shopping alone trying to pick up some thick Winter socks to warm my frozen feet. As I rounded the corner in the store I saw a Christmas tree full of paper angels. On each angel was the name of a needy child whose family couldn’t afford to buy them a gift that year. Shoppers who picked an angel could buy a simple toy or gift and the store would wrap it and send it to the child that Christmas. Around the tree I saw a teenage boy and girl picking out several angels apiece. Their mother was smiling while she watched them. I walked up next to her and started talking with her. She told me that her children started this several years ago when she first explained to them what the Charity Angel tree was for. Each offered to give up one of their toys that year so that a needy child could have one. It didn’t stop then, though. Each year since the kids had saved money they earned throughout the year and bought more and more children the gifts they wouldn’t have otherwise. It had become a family tradition. I smiled when she finished, walked over to the tree, and picked out a few angels too. I left the store feeling in touch with the true meaning of Christmas.

✯ The listing comes from a woman who lives in Tulsa. She claims she has no family and would really like to be a part of one this Christmas...Sadly, the woman removed the post after receiving hateful messages. However, that hate is fueling a love-filled search to find the woman and make her Christmas one to remember. An Oklahoma man named Carson Carlock decided to try and find the woman by posting her ad on Facebook. His post has been shared more than 6,000 times and eventually reached the local news. Carson said he did get in touch with her before she deleted the post but all he knows is her name is Carrie. Hopefully Grandma Carrie will see the news because dozens of people have offered to open their homes to her this Christmas while hundreds of others are hoping for an address to send her a Christmas card.

Each year, we challenge ourselves to come up with a new and unique way to spread Christmas cheer and to celebrate the season with our guests. What started as a relatively simple Christmas flash mob evolved into a more elaborate Christmas Miracle surprise that still captures the imaginations of people 7 years later. Our blue hat-wearing WestJetters helped Blue Santa give gifts to a community in Dominican Replublic who need them most. ❦ Born July 12th 1955 in Vitebsk, Belarus - Died August 19th 2019 in Playa Del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico is a Russian–Israeli modern impressionistic artist who works mainly with a palette knife and oils. He developed his own unique technique and style which is unmistakable and cannot be confused with other artists. Afremov is mainly known as being a self-representing artist who promotes and sells his work exclusively over the internet with very little exhibitions and involvement of dealers and galleries.

❦ On 17 May 1990 the Afremov family entered Israel in Ben Gurion International Airport. They had to give up their Soviet citizenship in favor of Israeli. To this day, Leonid Afremov and his family are citizens of Israel only.

... ❦ Because he was a recent Russian immigrant, the locals considered his work as having little value. Galleries took paintings for 50 shekels - 15$ and were reselling them for 500 to 5000 shekels. When Leonid confronted galleries about the extremely low prices, he always received the same answer, you a Russian immigrant,
❦ During the early 1990s, Leonid Afremov was mainly working with watercolors and acrylic. He was experimenting very little with usage of the palette knife. He was painting what people were buying, with very little artistic freedom.
❦ In 2005 Leonid Afremov vacationed in Playa del Carmen and Cancun for the first time. Since then he was visiting the Mexican Caribbean 2 to 3 times a year and completely fell in love with the area. Eventually in March 2010 Leonid decided to take on early retirement recommended by his doctors and moved to Playa del Carmen, a popular resort town near Cancun. Where he recently passed away with his whole family around him.

★Abe was programmed to love. Until recently, he had a family: he was living with them, cooking, helping them in every aspect of their lives – it was a servile situation, but he didn’t care, because he felt loved. It's harvest time for saffron, the precious seasoning that's mostly grown in Iran, but used in cuisines around the world. Saffron is derived from the saffron crocus, an autumn-flowering plant with purple petals as richly hued as the vivid crimson stigmas (called 'threads') in the center of the bloom. These threads are carefully extracted by hand with tweezers and dried before they're used for cooking. Each flower comes with just three threads, and it takes a lot of them—roughly 75,000 crocuses will yield just one pound of saffron. The entire harvest can last only about a week or two, because that's the short life of the saffron crocus bloom.
This time of year, the small Spanish town of Consuegra celebrates the end of the harvest season with a saffron-themed festival. This is home to some of Spain's best-preserved windmills, which traditionally milled the wheat grown in the region. ... During Consuegra's Festival de la Rosa del Azafrán (Festival of the Rose of Saffron), locals dress in traditional clothing and ceremonially grind some wheat in one of the old windmills. But feasting on regional cuisine is the highlight of the festival, and saffron is at the center of activities, complete with a saffron extracting competition. The contest honors the difficulty of picking the threads from the flower.
