Vertigo created a Watchmen backstory(prequel).

This seems to be a sequel of some sort.
The original idea was anti-mask laws were created to elimiate vigilantes. That then happens in The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller. The immediately law enforcement cannot cope as they might have complained but relied upon them.

This looks very intriguing. The cast list also looks quite impressive, Regina King, Frances Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Louis Gossett Jr., Tim Blake Nelson.... And Holy Cowbells, Don Johnson, the last thing I saw him in was Nash Bridges!
