Update Regarding Add-ons in Firefox (1218 views, 50 replies)
You're very welcome fleafla
This issue has been coming since 2017 .. from what I understand it's a matter of Mozilla not wanting to use extensions with expired certificates, that when the extensions like uBlock Origin used with Firefox break each other when they update.
I'd really like to hear from other people on this. I love Firefox for streaming but if they have made up their minds about not linking any ad blockers to use in the meantime, how does that help?
Anyone use different browsers besides Edge, IE or Chrome?
@ღEnigmaღ I was reading Reddit and I got the feeling Firefox are rushing to fix- like it was a mistake? Mozilla is now separated from Firefox? I'm really fuzzy with the details, so I'm not going to say more. For me, it's not having access to my password manager addon which is mostly bugging me. And yeah, I love Firefox too. I'd be sad to say goodbye to those memories. I opened Safari (mac) and pulled off the cobwebs and it wanted me to open an app store to add an addon. Oh man. If it continues for another few days, I guess, I'll move to Chrome?
@ღEnigmaღ I'm testing it right now, and have been for the past couple of days.
It's not a perfect solution to this whole mess by any means because it's based on an older pre-Quantum build of Firefox, but generally speaking it works, and Firefox Add-ons seem to work just fine too.
One thing I have noticed since I started testing Waterfox, if you use any sites that heavily rely on 'Captcha' for security/anti-spam/anti-bot purposes, then you're probably gonna get frustrated pretty quickly, because it seems 'Captcha' doesn't like older versions of Firefox very much, in which case the typical issue you'll get is having to complete multiple 'Captcha' challenges every time.
Opera. Free built-in unlimited VPN [user controlled] w bazillion free robust add-ons, and a lite private mode.
If you update to Firefox 66.0.4... this is the ultimate fix. Updating will get rid of the problem with disabled add ons.

I can't get anything back on Firefox being I'm using XP, right ?
I have Firefox version 55.
@Bread&Circuses You can update to Firefox 66.0 and it should fix your problems from what I've read.

@michael59 Hmm, I may be wrong, but have read several posts that seem to say otherwise.
@𝓜𝓸𝓾𝓼𝓮*🐭 I went to the link you provided above. There's no fix for xp I've been searching for hours/days
There may be things people that are well versed with the internet and computers can come up with but I don't have any experience and If it does not lead me to exactly what they say, I'm too scared to play around in I crash it. Most fixes listed online are a few years old already.
@michael59 I've lost ublock origin but I've downloaded AdGuard. Only had it a couple days, so far so good.
With my XP, the newest FF I can get is 55.
@Bread&Circuses I get that "download failed check your connection" message when I tried to get AdGuard. Any way you can send me a link to where you downloaded it?
@Bread&Circuses Thank you. I was having no luck trying my way. Have it now thanks to you.
@Bread&Circuses You can't update any browsers with xp firefox no longer supports it at all. Hasn't for years.
I lost all my addons and noscript. Now I can't see anything without being slowed down to a crawl and bombarded by ads. You having the same problems? I'm so frustrated cauae I don't have mony for windows 20.
@michael59 There is a site where I learned how to install Win7-Win10. Also you can also learn how to validate your copy there.
forums.mydigitallife.net/forums/...
If you are patient, you can get a free copy. Reading is involved and there are tutorials.
@michael59 Even if you don't have it, you can download a copy from that site and after that validate it. I downloaded it onto a USB stick from there & followed a tutorial. A few mistakes and finally I was able to do it.
@𝓜𝓸𝓾𝓼𝓮*🐭 Well I made the firt step an signed up at the link you gave.
OMG, Sam77 I feel like a complete greenhorn/newbie wannabe when searching that site. It's kinda intimidating. I had no idea what any of the tech lingo meant. lol
You are very kind to help by providing this info and hopefulluy I get brave enough to use it.
@michael59 If you can think of any specific questions let me know, I don't mind helping if I can.
When you do get a USB stick, (here in Canada you can get them just about anywhere) Best Buy, Amazon etc, but you need at least a 8 GB stick. From there you'd copy a copy of an ISO file from that site. After that copy the ISO onto the USB... and from the USB insert into a USB slot on your PC.
Sounds complicated, but if you read carefully on the tutorial you'll surprise yourself!
@michael59 So far I have AdGuard, working ok, if you find a better one, please sharre. FF slowed waaaay down for me, too, but a simple reboot brings you back to normal for a few hours. Or so I have found. I do love my xp, I may try a different browser, too bad, I liked FF too.

@bitshifter700 Thank you, seems I have adblocker back but I didn't recognize it, it's call oooOooo Owingo not kidding, the icon looks like colors hugging. I downloaded AsGuard, too. I'm not being bombarded with ads, so . . .
Alternatively, you could save the following as something like certfix.pem and import it in your preferences (Privacy & Security -> View Certificates -> Authorities -> Import):
pastebin.com/b9gtw27V
edit: I tried pasting the certificate in here but the formatting got screwed up. Save everything from and including -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE----- to -----END CERTIFICATE----- in the link above
My all time favorite was Windows Millennium.. I cut my teeth on it and learned a lot.. then xp came out and I regretfully changed to it and could not get my WM back. Eventually I had to get a new computer and w7 was installed. with each new version they took more and more control away.. but I loved them anyway.. Then my son bought me a computer with w10 which I hate and do not think I will ever warm up to it. Fortunately my husband figured out how to fix my acer with w7 and i'm using it now for as long as I can. As far as losing our addons .. seems to me it was a ploy to get us that hang onto older versions of FF to update. Oh how I hate windows on top!
@michael59 Hum.. is that an implication of some kind?
Read technical forums my friend..written by people that write computer programs or have enough knowledge to tweak them and see what they have to say about such issues.
@laurie621 Not sure what you mean laurie621. I was agreeing with everything you were saying. My computer tower died and I now have to use xp because I don't have money to upgrade. That also means that I lost all addons. I find it very frustrating.
I also have very little knowledge about the internet and computers.
I do try to tinker around and sometimes I can find little tips and tricks to get what I need.
michael59, what version of FF do you have? You would be surprised at what can be done with an open-source browser. I hate the tabs on top and have been able to keep them on bottom by reading tech forums and using an older FF. When it happened I screwed up and updated by accident and spent the day in the forums until I learned what to do. So for now I have them back on bottom and learned a few new tricks in the process. Sorry for the misunderstanding... I did read what you said in a prier post and I thought then how on earth can he use xp and an old FF and still get around on the net without being forced to update. You have to have some computer skills to do that!! It's not that hard to put w7, which you can find for free, on a flash drive and use it instead of your internal drive with xp on it. Good luck!

Last night all of my ad-ons for Firefox disappeared while I was watching a movie .. I started getting pop-ups, so I went to the Mozilla Add-ons Blog to find answers. Here's the link:

There's an option to run studies, but that opens you up to sharing info from your PC. I opted for the quick fix that was provided further down the page by Samuel Vuorela in the comments section. Some people don't care for the idea, but if you look in the actual fix link, it says signed. Here's the fix link:

I'll update this thread as more info is provided ..
