We all have them, past and present. Some of them might be here ...

Are you a fan of summer time?
Do you have a favourite summer time moment to share (childhood, adolescence or adulthood)?
Was it good or bad?
Did the moment have a soundtrack?

Mine is an Irish summer camp, coming in contact with the opposite sex, first kiss/love, buying beers, cigarettes, music, escaping from the monitors, staying out all night, getting caught.

And this was the soundtrack to that summer … it couldn’t have been better.

1976. I was 15, hottest UK summer on record.
Bunking off school every day and going to the beach.
A boy.

And these two songs on the radio.

@⭐️janerosity⭐️ I was too young to appreciate fully the summer of 76 but "Young Hearts ..." stirred a few memories of hard labour on my uncle's farm. I hadn't heard the first one.

There is always a boy or a girl at that age. Lovely memories. Thanks for sharing J.

Although shagging is mentioned a number of times in the diagram, the Summer Moments can be other things. I have glorious memories of lake fishing with the brothers and my reward was not the number of fish I caught as I was the only one not to catch a thing. Even today I can't stand the sight of fish and only eat it out of a duty to show the kids "the right things to eat"

Best summer moment
I met my husband in the summer of 2010. I had a year sober at that time and we meet at an outpatient clinic. We would stand in the hot sun smoking our cigarettes and getting to know each other. We both ended up working at that treatment center as well. You can find your soulmate in the strangest places!
We also married in the summer (not the same year) at St. George Island,Fl. We had dolphins jumping in and out of the ocean right after our vows and we ended up having a huge rainbow as well. If those aren't good omens I don't know what is.
This summer I have 10 years of sobriety so that's another one!

Sorry box,I left my wild youthful Summers out

@Teeny💋 Kings Of Leon are a great band! Iddn it funny how for so many of us we have musical place holders in our memories that are key points to both our high and even our low points?

BTW congrats on gettin things on a better track ... which reminds me of another song: "Life Is Hard" by Timbuck 3 www.youtube.com/watch?v=N90b5Yzn...

@mrkim56 It has to do with the way your brain works.---music usually holds some emotion, and since your high or low point memories are emotional, music can "trigger"or "key"that memory.

@---BOX--- Were I not a member of the "short attention span theater" crew when it comes to writing I could write a novel about that relationship.

Saw a couple just yesterdee that took me back to that time ... memories.

As for a soundtrack to represent how things went it would start out w/Fleetwood Macs "Over My Head", Led Zeppelins "In the Light" and Bob Dylans "Sara".

Then moving on to songs like Framptons "Do You Feel Like We Do?" or "Baby I Love Your Way" and maybe Steve Millers "Wild Mountain Honey".

It would likely end with tunes like Blue Oyster Cults "Don't Fear the Reaper", Leon Russels "(Lost in the) Masquerade", Bob Segers "Night Moves" and maybe Jackson Brownes " The Pretender" or "Here Come Those Tears Again".

Full circle it leads me back once more to Streisands lines:

Mine is bittersweet. My sister and I spent many years in different states. We phoned a lot but never got to see each other. Then one day she phoned and said that she would be moving back to IL. My heart just leaped. We are four years apart and I was finally going to be close to my one and only sister. She moved back and we had some riotous times. We bar hopped together and went to the beach. We took road trips, had cookouts, we would try to outdo each other with our food choices. Then she became ill. It started with a broken ankle(another story)she got an infection at the hospital later ended up losing her leg. Infection moved up and infected her heart. She died at 52 years old. Broke me in so many ways I still cannot think of her without crying. I have the same relationship with my little brother. He lives in WI. He now has less than three months to live. He has inoperable liver cancer with tumors between the nodes. I still have my mom, I was hoping my brother could be here to help me through her passing. I know how selfish that sounds but I cannot help the feeling. He got married after the death of his wife of 35 years. He was on the edge of drinking himself to death when he found his Linda. I will always be thankful she saved his life, made him want to live again.I'm going to post pictures. My sister is in the Red shirt I'm in the blue one. This was a basement bar night so much fun. My brother, is from his wedding at Lam-beau field we had the reception in the owners sky box. It was an AWESOME NIGHT. This might not be what you anted for memories, If it's to morbid you have full permission without hard feelings to delete. It's your thread.

This is so personal, so beautiful and so emotional. This is much more than I could have expected.

You were lucky to have the time you had with your sister and to have such great memories. Nothing selfish about expecting people to be around for longer than you, especially if they are younger.

She has seen her husband dying from cancer, 4 brothers older than her, their wives, nephews, totaly 15 I think. Something she told me is that she wasn't keeping any photos of the dead relatives close to her.She lives alone and she travels a lot. She could not handle it. Some people react to images or music in a different way than the others. Perhaps on our way to survive the pain we have to trick our emotions or focus our attention in things that fullfil our best emotional balance. Some people are born with powerful surving mechanisms in their brain but we are not all the same. Many people need help of a person that already been through this or have sucessfully have handle it. I think ur action sharing this is already an action that indicates u are taking actions overcoming all this. ...

Summer of 2014 on the Tombigbee River in Vienna, Alabama. My vision is severely impaired, so I am unable to drive. On this day though, my husband and I had the whole river to ourselves for miles, so I got to drive our boat for a few minutes. This screenshot is from the video he took of me driving.

And this is the song that was playing on the boat's stereo in the video.

I have so many good memories, but going to my first proper concert at Wembley Arena to see the Michael Jackson Bad tour in July 1988 is a great one. My parents had bought me tickets for Christmas and jokingly bickered about which one was going to take me for months – My father won. We caught the train and London underground. It rained. We got soaked and cold.

Having drank a large Pepsi – something my parents never let me drink at home – I was bursting for a wee! I left to find a loo just before Thriller started and I missed the werewolf opening and zombie dance!

The month before was the Nelson Mandela's 70th birthday concert at Wembley. Tracy Chapman was catapulted into the charts after she stood in for Stevie Wonder, with about 10 minutes notice, poor girl. I can’t begin to imagine how she must have been feeling standing in for such a big name.

@DemandingFemale you reminded me of one of my first big gigs Madonna in Wembley Stadium. No big screens in those days. We got there late (3 Irish lads with a thirst on in August 1987) and so were confined to the back part and her being quite petite, we didn't make out much of what was going on - just a flurry. That was the day I found out that Madonna can't sing for peanuts. But we had a great time. There are some videos of the event on youtube but the quality is very bad. Thanks DF for the memories (see below for the Voice)

@fortunate1 Sometimes one's musical heros just don't live up to expectations. It happened to me twice - Bob Dylan who seemed to be playing for only himself on stage and ignored the audience completely, changed the arrangements of the songs so much that no one knew what he was singing and his voice just didn't have what it takes anymore. The other time, the artist was so wasted he couldn't stand straight. But I hear he's much better now. Memorex smiley

@clarachan1355 I don't think Stevie's performance had been announced. He was actually at the stadium just about to go on stage when he noticed some of his equipment was missing. He said "Sorry, I can't do the show", turned around and left. Tracy was given a few minutes to compose herself before taking to the stage. The crowd loved her.

Although the album was released a couple of months before the Mandela concert - which was broadcast live in 67 countries, with over 600 million viewers - it catapulted it into the charts. It's one of the biggest selling albums of 1988, and one of the first albums by a female artist to sell over 20 millions copies.

My mum bought the album at the time, I still own her copy. Now she refers to it as "music to slit ya wrists to" lol

My first kiss in a teen party, when I was 15. We were playing "spin the bottle and kiss to whoever points". Usually we were kissing doing stupid faces or yelling. I had a kiss by a girl that made me for first time in my life feel that a woman also has needs like mine and I felt her trembling on me. We were listening to songs like:

The second short romance I can share is when I was 17. She was German, older than me, around 21. she had visited Greece with her mother. I already knew how to play the guitar but this summer for the first time i started to sing. We were around a fire on the beach, a hot august night with full moon. I played couple romantic greek tunes and this one:

She told me "U the king of this night". We kissed, we had a sweet romance like 2 young ppl would have. It was bitter when she had to leave. Now as I remember her, I wish she is healthy, happy and with a family and good friends around her

@clarachan1355 By "play" I mean touch and hold them in water. They don't bite and only when threatened do they try to stab their Barb in you. There were only 2 stingrays though. They drew a big crowd but only 3 of us got in with them. if the rays would have came any closer they would have been out of water. At one point they were in only 3 inches of water at the most. I didn't know that they came into such shallow people filled areas but these two did and have obviously done it before because they weren't scared or shy.

I can always hear Sade in the background when I'm at the beach and maybe her song "Cherish The Day" would be fitting for that special day you had.

Well I have to admit that playing with a stingray is pretty memorable and I'll read between the lines for the rest of the meaning.

I checked out the place on Google and it looks like a pretty impressive summer spot. Cool.

I was forgetting smiley the best of summer in 70's San Francisco, they had "street fairs" at least several times.I bought a real Panama hat for $30.--kept it for years.Pottery was easier to find then,at a street fair.--but mostly I went with a girlfriend, and we loved it.--Those were really the high points of San Francisco, summer and street fairs.--They had real, independent artists selling.--little ceramic pins,I still have a "Cloud" and a little heart with gold wings.--I used to have a ceramic "fried egg" pin, hah!!Rock bands sometimes played. I doubt they still have them in 2019.The billionaires wouldn't be interested.---"too hippie" for them. smiley

What a wonderful thread, Box! great stories and great music! everybody!
my story is not from teeny times, but certainly from another planet.

End of 2015 i planned to go to Koh Samui Thailand with my best friend, we have been there many times. I knew he had not seen his girl there for months and told him:" You fly 5 days before me, i have to close some work projects und you need time to make love and be alone. Pick me up at the airport, we will go straight to the ferry to Koh Phangang (neighbour island) to relax there for some days. I will be in need of a pool and many cocktails"

So i flew a bit later. The night before the flight i had a really really bad fight with my business partner about money and the projects, it was really bad.(4 years before that we were crazy in love but it ended up only business)

So without any sleep and totally stressed and many Gin Tonics in the air i landed on Samui.
(worlds GREATEST airport)my friend called and said "we will be there in 10 mins. haha i have a surprise for you" I was expecting our traditional welcome bottle of CHANG beer.

After many cocktails we found ourselves in the bungalow. I tried to be a gentleman as promised. I really really tried. Of course i failed.

What followed was a 6 week long (I postponed the flight 3 times), delirious, rush from outta space. A day in night out trip consistent of white satin, hotel hopping, sunsets, talking, falling falling falling deeper deeper. Time of a life.

This lil vid will give you an impression of Love & tropics ( music : Royksöpp)

18 long months before i was lonely after a depressing relationship, just refusing anything and fleeing into work.

Sooo if you are out there lonely or in the wrong relationship:
The universe will provide you with all possibilities. All you have to do is move and show life some contact surface.

Oh and BTW: MONTHS later i found out what happened before I arrived. My friend and the two girls went to a buddhist temple for praying. In Thai buddhist temples you shake a wooden

@Adrian∞ --I think you are talking about the "I-Ching."--although I read a description where they shake the wooden sticks onto the floor--and watch how they are lying--take out the long parchment,of I-Ching(or book)--and use the book's rules to interpret WHAT IS going to happen.--from the sticks. It does not sound as easy,as the temple. Boy, you got a real prediction!!hah hah. lots of westerners also used the I-Ching, to make decisions. Phillip K. Dick described it in his fantastic tale of {"What if the Germans and Japanese won WW2?")book, and Japanese used the I-Ching. Everyone is entitled to own beliefs. ;)

@clarachan1355 Hello clarachan!
Great story! And from here Nappa Valley just sounds as exotic to me as Thailand, lol.
Oh i should add a thing to the temple story. I went there with her again and we prayed together and we slipped a paper.
We expected something really really big like " LOve 4ever" the least.
The disappointing message was something like "you will overcome many problems"

I looked at her and said
"err...that is not so good"
She smiled with that matchless, angelically, mindblowing smile she had and said: "Dont worry hooneeeey.
This is Thailaaand. I show you"
Then we went to the entrance of the temple (with the paper) There was a tree with white bark. And a fountain.
She said:"Honneyyy, make paper wet and stick to tree"
I did so.
She said:" See? Now Buddha deleted bad paper"
Now if THAT isnt a good attitude i dont know what is.

It spent 16 (SIXTEEN) consecutive weeks at the top of the UK Singles Chart from July to October 1991. By week 3 I was ready to jump off a bridge.

Here's Stewie doing. I refuse to click a link to listen to Bryan lol.

It really is amazing how memories of one person evoke memories in another. The name Koh Samui brought back memories of a 5 week honeymoon travelling around the country of Thailand, totally disconnected from the outside world and arriving back the day Princess Diana and her boyfriend and driver died in Paris. I suppose this was the song that marked the end of the honeymoon and the start of the mourning process in UK.

And the sand on the beaches in Koh Samui really is special.

There are plenty of summertime moments that I can recall. My favorite one would be my husband asking me out back in 08. It was my first date. My second favorite one would be spending time with him all day at the beach at 09. 3rd would be the long drive with him and friends the same year. Those were the days. No worries, no tensions. Just free. My all-time favorite moment would he proposing back in 2017. And getting married that summer.

Everyone posted a lot of songs.

We used to listen to this when we were teenagers.

Ok, in the late 90s i lived & worked in London (Battersea). On wednesday 27th 1997 an old friend of mine called from Paris and said " i found him. can you come?"
Her name is Vicky (a true London girl) and she grew up without knowing her father. She was working in Paris in the Hopital Pitié-Salpêtrière at that time as a surgical nurse.
For all of her life she spent a fortune to find her father , spending it to detectives, research, even spiritual idiots. Mommy refused to help , maybe not even remembering much of him.(Well i dont know that precisly)
Ok, with the help of the company i worked for in London i could help a lil and it turned out he lived like only 40 km away from Paris. She did not want to be alone when meeting him first time, so i was kind of a back up.
I flew to Paris friday afternoon 29 th. Contrary to my insistent advice, she decided to confront him by assault. My suggestions of writing a letter or similar were simply rejected.

@Adrian∞ What a story Adrian with the basis of a series with the parallel stories "crashing and burning" in Paris. Poor Vicky, she probably never got over that trauma.

The last video has a problem to play.

Summer of '96, senior class trip to Myrtle Beach, SC. A week of drinking, smoking, tripping, xing, total debauchery...I believe there was some shagging in there too, of course smiley Anyhow, the soundtrack would include Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Doors, Janis Joplin. We were young but listened to mostly classic rock. The two songs I remember most though weren't from the actual vacation but the ride there and back. We only had 2 tapes (yes cassette tapes) and they each only had a couple songs on them. One was The Doors, the other was Oasis. Here are the 2 songs we listened to for nearly the whole 12 hour drive.

@rickgrimesrocks Good times yeah. That soundtrack would make an interesting compilation album.

I was a super fan of Oasis at that time and this song was a masterpiece.

I didn't know The Doors music - just the famous songs and this video is so good. That keyboard and Morrison was their trademark I suppose, but I didn't realise what a sexy beast he was. He was one of a kind like Joplin and Cobain.

From the same year, this was one of my summer songs ...

Thanks RGR.

Frank Zappa was just as comfortable with Thelonious Monk, as he he was with Howlin' Wolf. But it pissed him off that he was most famous for the song "Dinah-Moe Humm" It earned him the nickname "the "godfather" of comedy rock. He felt underappreciated for his more esoteric works. They didn't get any airplay. Zappa was a staunch supporter of freedom. In music, and in personal matters. On September 19, 1985, Zappa testified before the United States Senate on the matter of censorship, and labelling of music. "Zappa set excerpts from the PMRC [Parents Music Resource Center] hearings to Synclavier music in his composition "Porn Wars" on the 1985 album Frank Zappa Meets the Mothers of Prevention, and the full recording was released in 2010 as Congress Shall Make No Law... Zappa is heard interacting with Senators Fritz Hollings, Slade Gorton and Al Gore.[116]" Wikipedia. Zappa hated consorship of any kind, and would have been appalled by the censorship of conservatives by Youtube, and other social media. "In a 1991 interview, Zappa reported that he was a registered Democrat but added "that might not last long—I'm going to shred that".[100] Describing his political views, Zappa categorized himself as a "practical conservative".[nb 13] He favored limited government and low taxes; he also stated that he approved of national defense, social security, and other federal programs, but only if recipients of such programs are willing and able to pay for them.[1]:315–16, 323–24; 329–30 He favored capitalism, entrepreneurship, and independent business, stating that musicians could make more from owning their own businesses than from collecting royalties.[101] He opposed communism, stating, "A system that doesn't allow ownership ... has—to put it mildly—a fatal design flaw." [Wikipedia]. Rolling Stone magazine ranked him at No. 71 on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.[129]

I got your message and came to deliver. I had to think waaaaay back for a summer memory because nothing really ever happens in the summer with me anymore. This was probably early 90s, 1990 most likely. Every year after school let out, my dad would take me to this water park called Wild World (It was later renamed Adventure World, and then later turned into Six Flags America). It's a 15 minute trip from our house. Anyway, I just remember having so much fun with my dad those times. This particular time, I remember I was in the wild waves, riding a yellow donut floaty and my dad had gone off to get us some drinks. The park had giant speakers and played music all day, the song that was playing at this time was "More Than Words" by Extreme. I remember it made me sad because I was thinking about in the future I might not have my dad anymore, like my mom who passed away when I was 3. My dad passed in 2007 and I still can't really listen to More Than Words without crying even though I really like the song. It just makes me remember. My dad always spoiled me, got me everything I needed and most of everything I wanted, he was cool, funny and always encouraged me to be the best me I could be.
