I think that's the nature of chat (to a moderate extent). The written word can also be so flat, so it's up to individual interpretation (subjective, which is difficult), as well as the person writing to be sensitive when writing, and not respond too quickly or carelessly. <br> <br> Anyhow, I know a little more consideration can always be applied, but despite not really using chat very much at all, I do know a lot of people really like it. <br> <br> If it is abused by anyone I would propose there be in place a warning system/strike system, and then they loose chat privileges. There is no reason whatsoever on this site to get mean or nasty EVER, full stop.
@ Hi Love! Knew this was you before i even noticed it was you. :) The anonymity using the net allows ppl to easily relent to their primal instincts, which is sadly to spew nasty, hateful thoughts. I was so naive, a baby, until I learned about net a[nt]holes. What most of them really are - chicken s[ugar]. The rest, and we rarely know when to distinguish, are/were most likely bullied and/or abused, so I've always been cautious about responses, if any, and I cringe when I see a "fight."

I offended a member with a comment in the midst of banter with other members about the Americans adulterating the English language. It wasn't intended to be offensive or cruel, but they took it that way, got upset, blocked me. But a couple of days later we were back chatting. So it often boils down to personal feelings and how comments affect you as an individual. I take offence at some things (racism and comments about size especially) but I bite my tongue, assess whether it's my own personal experience reacting, or whether the comment is genuinely offensive before responding. <br> <br> In this age of political correctness have we become too sensitive? (genuine question). <br> <br> Trolling itself is different. Trolls become obvious very quickly and should be dumped ASAP.
@Asmodeus I don't live in the States at the moment, but I do have to note, without wanting to seem critical, as an observation, the PC/Trending talk is mainly Stateside. We don't use it in Ireland. I rarely hear it in England (maybe for a piss take) and definitely not in France. It's an American phenomenon that (from appearances) is actually verbal separatism. It appears to only serve to further create/enhance "us v them" thinking patterns. I refuse to use it. I'd replace sensitive with angry and venomous. I support individuality, but not separatism. Anyhow, just some thoughts. Keep well. :)

I say follow tos and ban em. period.Evil needs a ban hammer. someone to do it for him obviously (hint, Hint) If people want drama, why not go watch a drama? We have a section full of em... I could even recommend some great ones.

I personally think there should be a 3 strike rule. Anyone who receives more than one report for a specific incident gets a 24 hours ban. Next incident a 1 week ban. 3rd time, lifetime ban. <br> <br> The site has a choice. Remove drama to avoid loss of members. Or allow it because it raises hits from onloookers and possibly create new members...maybe the wrong type. <br> <br> A bit of drama is what makes chat fun. Depends on your definition of drama. Swearing AT someone and calling them a C*** is NOT drama, that's abuse. <br> <br>

I very much agree with the 3 strike rule or at least some kind of set policy that everyone is aware of. I certainly don't want to see the chatbox removed, it's one of the things that make this site special imo. Perhaps some chat rules and when they are broken a set punishment for doing so.

I once was active on chat, but have found, as of late, it's 99% drama and simply close it out before even searching out what I want to watch. I think chat is fine and an amazing tool for those who need help. However, there are some that are crazy, some that play the victom far too well, and others that are just miserable enough to hurt anyone they can. Of course theres good people out there as well, but must everyone be so delicate? It is a social chat room, after all, and it is actually secondary to the site, is it not? <br> <br> We are all grown up enough here, Id hope, to be able to just watch a movie, or chat without returning to elementry school banter. If people don't like chat then close out the chat box and actually go watch a movie. <br> <br>

And bringing in Cray as a moderator after he specifically stated in forums his intent would be to ban people was a terrible idea. I get it, he contributed to the site but that contribution should have been rewarded in other ways. Members having the ability to ban or kick other members is a potential for more problems, to be honest. I've moderated. It's a hard job and everyone has an opinion. Believe me, if you give everyone the ability to ban or kick by vote, you will be starting a war. <br> <br> Anyone can come on and do anything and that includes enraging someone who has nothing better to do than make up profiles and emails and come on and down vote, ban and kick off anyone who gets in their way. <br> <br> Film sites/Forums aren't perfect, and chat is 3 removed from that. <br> <br> If you want to chat, each person has to be responsible in not getting too serious first off and second off, the decisions ultimately are left up to those who run the site. <br> <br> Just my experience. <br> <br> Take care everyone.
@ Agree with RB on this one. Members having the ability to make those decisions is (I used the same analogy on the voting ban previously) like choosing teams for school sports. Everyone has favourites and those they don't gel with. ~@Dr. Evil, I agree w/the block option.That way people can choose or not -on who they want 2c on here. That way it doesn't ban the people from the site completely 2 everyone else that uses it. It will only seem like the person(s)are invisible on their end & vice versa..That way everyone can still enjoy chatting, forums, comments & using other features this site has to offer/provide etc.. ~In the other terms of banning/voting against people regarding issues.. I totally agree w/what what Asmodeus wrote above

Almost everyone knows where I stand on this, in particular Dr. Evil. It's been stated before that there has not been a situation like this, hence even the boss doesn't know what to do. Down-marking someone's movie comments for no reason other than a personal vendetta harms the whole site. But it does happen, and online communities (like a social chat room) change over time for different reasons. In this case multiple people with multiple complaints of varying severity over a period of months directed at just one person. On that basis no one should be considered especially sensitive.

@Dr.Evil I think you have enough responsible moderators. What they need is more specific instruction from you. Parents do care about their children. That is why 2 parents have had to get involved here. Having porn on this site, not advertised on the front.. fine, but means you have a responsibility to ensure no one can register here underage. We all know.. kids come and look at porn. When you register that opens up a channel for other users to contact you privately. That is something happening here now, and yes ballz is involved in that. I was an IMDb moderator for 3 yrs until they shut down the forums in Feb. of last year. I appreciate your response and will advise any way I can. Before the FCC is involved we need structure.

What cracks me up the most about the whole thing is every one of us are criminals... each of us could potentially spend 10 years in a real life f**k me up the ass prison for what we do on a regular daily basis without batting a lash. Well here we go with another forum about the same worthless troll. One that should of never had to be written if the clearly stated rules in TOS were simply followed. Instead they are subject to very wide interpretation and a even wider scope of who or what it will be applied to. Why even bother to have them when they are clearly and repeatedly broken and yet nothing is done.

@chaseyerself I know huh? Didn't even realize it until recently, but I've now been here two years, although I never really had much to say in chat or anywhere else until the past six months or so. Now that I'm a little more outspoken I tend to speak my mind. But as I've said before it doesn't matter what I say or think either.

Dr. Evil handled it, it was over with. I will stay, not a big chatter but I do now and then. if I don't like it or someone is in a full blown conversation, I go watch a movie. After all that is what this place is. We are family of sorts, in fighting hurts US. We need a plan, we have been asked to help find one.

And I respectfully disagree, things are not as they should be at all, and I'm not the only one who feels that way either. I wouldn't worry about it Mouse! Craymoss seems to have some issues and be angry about a lot of things. Why he's still here if this place is so bad and doesn't like how it's being run is anyone's guess. Of all people, especially mods, he has no room to talk after all the crap he has said on here. I'm sure reports are all generated from one source and his apparently multiple fake accounts. Why nothing is being done about it only one person can answer that.

I see that some users are really sensitive to chat drama/trolling and sometimes leave the site (@greg). How can we stop it? Close/remove the chat? What's your opinion?
P.S. If you don't like someone - just block the user.
@Dr.Evil i think if you were going to start a forum page for this then you should have did it ages ago ,its a bit late now to ask for users opinions after weeks of drama ,arguing ,users reporting users , users getting banned and for me stopped me from using chat as often , so thats my opinion
@Dr.Evil Real classy calling out Greg for leaving because you failed at doing your job after repeated abuse from Hood. You justified it by saying since he was a long time member he got leniency and extra chances. Don't know how you justify what's going on now. It's a whole new low for this place. What a shame it has come to this when it never should have.
