This was drilling thrilling! A phantastic chamber play 6 miles in the deep and dark. Who knows what lurks in the deep? What`s lurking in this horror action gem truely belongs to the monster olymp. HORRIBLE creatures. Entertaining from start till the end, keeps you drilling your fingers in your chair. Get popcorn & a beer, this is very smart horror entertainment!
The movie is worth the time. A touch of technology and suspense in an environment not fully explored. Creatures that can harm people roam the deep. The presentation of these creatures are somewhat new which gives a slight taste to the suspense. I'd say 7 of 10 for this movie.
I forgot I watched this before. I do remember I felt it was pretty good, and I was surprised that in my gut I actually felt Kristen Stewart helped carry the movie with her "presence" drawing me into-believing and caring about what was happening. and i kept questioning myself for feeling that way because i tend to feel the same repulsion to KS as many people describe in the comments? but i can't help it, it's just true.I felt her presence added and i wondered if she hired a good acting coach and was seriously improving. I am a terrible actor. My mind's eye splits off into a distinct secondary conscious entity that is self consciously watching myself being watched by the audience. it feels like some kind of MPD master super ego. but i think that its actually normal and i just highly scrutinize what others don't analyses and just feel as fear of being on stage. I think that KS struggles with self image and thats what annoys people. i think i saw improvement in this film. ... i was keyed into watching her new acting skill level more than the movie. it was a psychological mirror onto myself, beyond the film itself. but both were good. you may see a very different movie in your mind's eye than i did in mine. and that makes the comments all more interesting too. About 6 people going deep sea for research on whatever was kinda boring for a minute till them critters come along now survive or die mode, go figure
One of the films that came out just as the world went into lockdown . This a few other movies have kinda disappeared. Had to buy bluray from Germany to own it. Great film. A few surprises. A great ride from start to finish
10/10 loved this exciting movie. Kept interest right from the beginning well done
You might think the story build up for this kind of movie will be very long. This is not that kind of movie. Make sure you glue to the seat right from the start.
This is a surprisingly good underwater creature movie. Only that this movie is a bit too dark for my monitor.
Flat chest elven like..LOL
Was indeed a little dark on contrast at times but a great movie and I loved Kirsten Stewart in this unlike many it seems.
Was a good tension builder, not quite up to titles such as The Abyss but an entertaining effort netherless.
After all the hype, this is disappointing.
People work on an underwater drilling rig sometime in the future, I can believe that.
But the rest of it is just ridiculous; NASA-like pressure suits to resist the extreme conditions in the Mariane trench, and people run around in them. Huge nasty monsters. Someone makes a nuclear explosion just by tweaking a controller. And the rest.. nonsense.
The plot had very little going for it and any movie that tries to make up for the lack of story by adding layers of CGI effects will not please an audience.
Wast of time, 5/10 for effects.
not bad at all Kristen Stewart she did really well until the end
Had a lot of potential in the beginning, then the movie got lazy creatively.
I liked this movie it was not on par with other sea monster flicks such as The Meg, Deep Rising, or The Abyss. The humor was mundane and seemed like quips I've heard somewhere else. The monster was not terrifying, but earned pity for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Humans were invading her backyard. The actors and actresses were good but no one stood out...They each played there stereotypical roles and died(or lived) as planned...watch it once and you will swear you've seen it before done better!!
[SPOILER]It's Fucking Cthulhu Awesome movie, definitely something to enjoy in the dark with excellent surround sound.
I've been hanging on to this for a while fearing it may be lame. I liked it just fine.
Seen waaay, waaay worse. I was captivated from beginning to ends. Most all the superfluous preamble and character building nonsense wasn't in the movie. Didn't detract from the enjoyment. Go ahead and watch. At the least, it's a great way to kill 90 minutes. This movie is in the upper middle of the one timers, heck, who knows, maybe some day I'll want to see it again. Likely not as I can't keep up with the new stuff.
not too bad! Kristen Stewart was a good actress in this movie! The creatures even looked intriguing and real.
What an awesome movie...made me think about how they make those sea stations
This isn't as bad as everybody says it is it's worth a watch. He needs a little confusing the Acting is pretty good. Definitely good for a one-time watch.
I was waiting for a nice claustrophobic, underwater horror movie to emerge.
It borrows heavily from it's spiritual predecessors like Alien and Deepstar Six but it mananges to be fairly unique with a diverse cast of characters and a well thought out creepy adversary.
Nice special effects, I was impressed with Steward’s performance. This really reminded of Aliens mixed with The Abyss. It’s has a nice plot. I think it could of go in depth “no pun intended “ with the storyline but it’s a nail bitter.
I have been waiting on a good sci-fi flick for some time now. [SPOILER]I hate it when the black guy dies first. The movie slaps you in the face with it’s effects which is great to see in some senes. The cinematography was good which played well on how the movie was being portrayed. All in all you be satisfied and will not regret the watch.
not too bad didnt have my expectations disappointed and i liked the premise definitely can get the feel of the tension in thruout..[SPOILER]i wonder what they could have been mining for down there in the ocean and also the giant monster had a cthulu esque type of look pretty interesting
the thumbnail for my copy of Underwater was a close-up of actress Kristen Stewart's butt, which is fitting, as i found the rest of this film similarly unfit for viewing. swear to god - Kirsten is hard enough to watch, but does she have to mumble so much of her dialog? it's hard enough to hear her speaking with the sounds of everyone's breathing apparatus to overcome.
i have a big peeve with films that use a lot of reading material to set up their story, like that slow crawl in the beginning of any Star Wars you may have seen. this one really pushed hard with a lot of technical maps for review as well. i suppose they wanted to impress audiences with the scope of everything down there, yet it impressed me more as simple cost-effectiveness and lazy screenwriting. they should have just cgi that sh¡t, pulled back the camera and turned on some goddamn lights. close-ups are for television, which is where this should have been, perhaps as a lead-in for the next Zombie Tidal Wave.
while viewers may like some of the casting, none of the characters are that appealing. none of them seemed suited for the work they're supposed to be doing nor for the extremities of their environment. the technological interfaces were likewise as unseemly, god forbid they should have to turn a valve somewhere instead of relying on touchscreens with undamaged wiring and an unbroken electrical supply.
that facility would have cost billions to be constructed, yet it takes mere seconds - and maybe less than five touches on the screen to make their nuclear reactor go boom?!
and what the hell, here's one more [SPOILER]
they retrieved a deep, deep water life form and brought it into a decompressed environment intended for surface dwellers - so wouldn't that thing have showed signs of cellular degeneration (like the so-called blob fish)? it should at least have been spewing guts or some gross fluids to keep the audience awake.
throwaway, forgettable. people need to quit being nice about Kirsten Stewart; she got her payday years ago and made her bed since. so stop excusing half baked garbage like this on account of her unpretty ass, she could obviously care less. Read moreLess
This was better than the original (deep star six) with the same story but a better cast and the advantage of modern effects. I don't really know what else to say about it. It's a great edge-of-your-seat thrill ride (unless you were unfortunate enough to have seen the oft-overlooked original). It definitely follows the old adage that any problem is better solved in bikini briefs. All the worst to the plagiarists who wrote it, but all the bests to Kristen Stewart and Jessica Henwick who act this film out of its own paper bag.
I enjoyed this Movie, sure it Would of been nice to see more character development but still pretty good. I kept looking for Slusho drinks "Seabed's Nectar" oh wait wrong film ;) . Overall it held my attention. Check it out!
Great Movie!Non-stop action from beginning to end.Kristen Stewart was definitely a badass hottie in this one.I gotta see it again to get a better view of those underwater creatures. There is alot more to this movie. The ending was perfect.
Going to watch this but I am warning everyone...I am strictly here--watching this movie--for the chicks. My review including sexy rating will be posted after... :)
Basically Alien (1) done underwater. The parallels are too many to be a coincidence with Kristen being the Ripley character. The difference is - not as good nor compelling. Much of the film is shot in a very dark setting with limited visibility, which adds to the overall claustrophobic feeling. It really looks like a blatant knock-off of Alien.
Fantastic movie!! I know people hate on Kristen Stewart, but I think she's a really good actress who just doesn't conform to the typical cookie cutter ideal actress that most go gaga over...and she doesn't try to be that even though EVERYONE tries to hate and shame her into it and she stays true instead of going fake even though it would completely advance her career if she pretended like the rest and became the essence of Hollywood. *takes breath* anyway, the storybis typical of these doomsday/tragic type stories, but it was so so entertaining. I really liked it and the cast was perfect too.
Kristen Stewart, Tinseltowns most overrated "actress", albeit inept would be more fitting.
The movie itself is decent, with another actress instead of Stewart this maybe could have been a decent/ great successful movie.
But with Stewart as lead the box office bomb was secured, sadly.
It really baffles me how an utterly untalented plank of wood like Stewart gets chance after chance to ruin movie after movie.
@LesParas that would be ironic if those chances came about because of her sex appeal, wooden tit.
Not such a bad flick, I thought they captured the claustrophobic "underwater" feel pretty well. The creatures were kind of cool and creepy. Kristen Stewart didn't annoy me as much as usual, she was somewhat tolerable. Four out of ten.
I really enjoyed this film! I love the edge of your seat movies. I am planning on watching again after we get better links bc those creatures were crazy looking and I want to see them better. My husband doesn't really like Kristen S but he did like the movie. The acting was great and I was thrilled to see Vincent Cassel in this. I know this hasn't gotten good reviews but I liked it. I would have loved a backstory on the bunny though! Great ending and great lines "let's light this b**ch up" also "it gets hot and there's lots of flames, I watch anime"!
Not impressed at all. Had moments of glimmer only to lose it to a mash potato salad of ambiguity!
i must say this movie did not dissapoint me i liked it alot specially those creepy alien monsters on the bottom, lol the climax in the end was great too only one thing i wish it was more light sometimes it was hard to see what was there.but i saw enough to like it alot.a 4/5 for me.
Yeah, would have been better if you could have seen the effects through that foggy water, but that's just the later part of the film. I don't care so much for Kristen Stewart, as an actress that is, love her style though. She only has about two expressions available... I think she could use a vacation with Steve Martin and exercise that beautiful mandible of hers.
It was nice to see French actor Vincent Cassel. I saw him while living in France and his film La Haine (the hate) was considered shocking and socially unpolished. Jusqua ici tu vas bien! I'm thinking they picked him here, because it's an oceanographer's dream to be locked up in an underwater laboratory with a man that has Jacques Cousteau's accent. Nostalgic.
But seriously, Isaac Asimov had nothing to do with writing this fiction. Touch Screens for primary operation functions on an underwater vessel? I can't play Pokémon in the rain, let alone escape in a pod while the seams are bursting. Putting aside my critical scientific hat, we can move on to a little extrapolated humor.
If you get towards the end, just outside of the lab 002 ... Brigadade (name evades me now) Ask yourself. Is that what Kristen Stewart meant by "Eat Me?" Hope you enjoy the shared chuckle.
Nice movie, probably better in the theatre. Read moreLess
not a bad film bit slow in the middle but picks up again kristen is still frozen faced but better acting than most films i have seen her in will defo watch again when there is a better copy 8/10.
I have seen this movie once, and I think Kristen Stewart is in this movie from the Twilight, and I think she has the glasses on that's why. So I watched the Underwater, and it was all about the Earthquake, psychotronic film, and also the research facility. But I really enjoyed this movie so far!
maybe I need to watch this again when a better copy comes out but I never thought Kristen Stewart was a good actress at all a seeing her in this didn't change my mind and all her dam talking aggravates me
@galavion I always wait for the hd versions. It's not like there's nothing else to watch in the meantime.
