Modern Impressionistic Artist................................❦ Leonid Afremov
❦ Born July 12th 1955 in Vitebsk, Belarus - Died August 19th 2019 in Playa Del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico is a Russian–Israeli modern impressionistic artist who works mainly with a palette knife and oils. He developed his own unique technique and style which is unmistakable and cannot be confused with other artists. Afremov is mainly known as being a self-representing artist who promotes and sells his work exclusively over the internet with very little exhibitions and involvement of dealers and galleries.

❦ On 17 May 1990 the Afremov family entered Israel in Ben Gurion International Airport. They had to give up their Soviet citizenship in favor of Israeli. To this day, Leonid Afremov and his family are citizens of Israel only.

... ❦ Because he was a recent Russian immigrant, the locals considered his work as having little value. Galleries took paintings for 50 shekels - 15$ and were reselling them for 500 to 5000 shekels. When Leonid confronted galleries about the extremely low prices, he always received the same answer, you a Russian immigrant,
❦ During the early 1990s, Leonid Afremov was mainly working with watercolors and acrylic. He was experimenting very little with usage of the palette knife. He was painting what people were buying, with very little artistic freedom.
❦ In 2005 Leonid Afremov vacationed in Playa del Carmen and Cancun for the first time. Since then he was visiting the Mexican Caribbean 2 to 3 times a year and completely fell in love with the area. Eventually in March 2010 Leonid decided to take on early retirement recommended by his doctors and moved to Playa del Carmen, a popular resort town near Cancun. Where he recently passed away with his whole family around him.

During my long haired Biker days here in Calif., one of the motorcycles I owned a Triumph 750 Bonneville. I named him `Lucifer` as he played the Devil with me, but was one `HELLOVA RIDE!!!`. Made in England, gearshift on the right, ticklers to prime the carburetors, which if you primed too much, and you kicked it over and it backfired, threw you over the handlebars, and pardon my French, God Damned LUCUS wiring. Finally rewired it so I could figure it out! DAMN the English for doing that, and their positive ground. Who the Hell wires a motorcycle with a positive ground?!! Is that your Son? He looks much like you, and is the trophy for Baseball? GREAT FOR HIM!!! The thing is almost as big as him. Thought Cricket was Big in Ireland. Anyway, before this turns into a chapter from the Bible: `A Letter of Paul to The Irish`, You Stay Pretty and HAVE A HAPPY!!! Stay Cool too! Seems like you`re also having a Heat Wave! I was laying on my bed relaxing after a long day. Music was playing in the background and I was taking the time to read a good book. Just as I turned the page an old song started playing that always reminded me of my Mom. I put the book down and listened. Even though it had been 23 years since cancer had taken her from us, sometimes it still felt like it was only yesterday. I closed my eyes and allowed the flood of memories to wash over me. I thought of Mom’s sparkling eyes and shining smile which lived on in the faces of my own children. I thought of her sweet voice and gentle laugh that never failed to lift my spirits. I thought of how she brightened up every room she walked into. I thought of how she was a friend to everyone she met and how her kindness touched the hearts of so many. I thought of how she made this world a better place just by being in it. And my heart ached as I thought of how I still missed her so much. I wiped the tears from my cheeks as the song finished, looked out my window at the night sky, and sent an "I love you, Mom" from my lips to Heaven’s ear. Now some people would ask why I didn't shut the music off the second that song came on. Why did I subject myself to the pain it brought? I think the answer is that sometimes you have to let in a little hurt in order to let in a lot of love. Sometimes you have to open your heart in order to truly live. Life here will always be a mix of the bitter and the sweet, but you can’t shut down your soul. At times you have to embrace the pain and then let it go. When you do you will find that what is left is love. May you always keep your heart open to love. May you always keep your heart open to messages from Heaven. They can come at the strangest times on the winds of a memory or the wings of a song.
