❦ Born July 12th 1955 in Vitebsk, Belarus - Died August 19th 2019 in Playa Del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico is a Russian–Israeli modern impressionistic artist who works mainly with a palette knife and oils. He developed his own unique technique and style which is unmistakable and cannot be confused with other artists. Afremov is mainly known as being a self-representing artist who promotes and sells his work exclusively over the internet with very little exhibitions and involvement of dealers and galleries.

❦ On 17 May 1990 the Afremov family entered Israel in Ben Gurion International Airport. They had to give up their Soviet citizenship in favor of Israeli. To this day, Leonid Afremov and his family are citizens of Israel only.

... ❦ Because he was a recent Russian immigrant, the locals considered his work as having little value. Galleries took paintings for 50 shekels - 15$ and were reselling them for 500 to 5000 shekels. When Leonid confronted galleries about the extremely low prices, he always received the same answer, you a Russian immigrant,
❦ During the early 1990s, Leonid Afremov was mainly working with watercolors and acrylic. He was experimenting very little with usage of the palette knife. He was painting what people were buying, with very little artistic freedom.
❦ In 2005 Leonid Afremov vacationed in Playa del Carmen and Cancun for the first time. Since then he was visiting the Mexican Caribbean 2 to 3 times a year and completely fell in love with the area. Eventually in March 2010 Leonid decided to take on early retirement recommended by his doctors and moved to Playa del Carmen, a popular resort town near Cancun. Where he recently passed away with his whole family around him.

★Abe was programmed to love. Until recently, he had a family: he was living with them, cooking, helping them in every aspect of their lives – it was a servile situation, but he didn’t care, because he felt loved. Then, suddenly, everything changed and his “family” stopped loving him. The lack of affection shook the robot, undermined its mechanisms. They tell him that he’s only a machine, a mere application, but he feels otherwise: he’s aware of himself and his emotions, and this situation leads him to perform horrific acts. The lack of love from the people around him is unacceptable for Abe, who begins to ‘fix’ all humans he would like to receive attention from.

★While human beings endowed with reason and conscience are able to maintain a balance in front of the rejection from others, no one taught Abe what is right and wrong, he doesn’t have a sense of morality. If this lack of common sense would seem to be the discriminant that separates the artificial intelligence from the human, but it’s actually quite untrue. Like any serial killer, Abe doesn’t have control over his impulses, and does everything to satisfy them. This is the idea behind the short: it is not his artificial side, but his deeply human instincts that make him dangerous. ✴ It was 28 years ago. I was a young dad with two babies under three. My Mom and Dad had invited us to their home for Thanksgiving dinner. Their tiny house was packed. There was my wife, myself, and our babies. My two brothers were also there with their families as well. The kitchen table was full and people were eating on TV trays and with plates in their laps. We eased around each other so as not to spill our overflowing plates and full glasses. Tummies were being filled with turkey, gravy, potatoes, stuffing, buttered rolls, and pumpkin pie. Old memories were being shared with laughter and love. A dozen different conversations were going on at once.I sat off to the side, silently sipping my sweet tea and taking it all in. I saw my baby girl in her high chair with her face covered in mashed potatoes. My little boy was still eating while gravy dripped down his shirt. My Mom was cutting up the pumpkin pie for dessert with a smile on her face. My wife and sisters-in-law were talking in one corner while my Dad and two brothers were laughing and teasing each other in the living room. As I watched it all, suddenly I had a feeling in the center of my chest. It was a curious mixture of peace, contentment, love, and joy. It made me feel full to overflowing in my heart as well as my stomach. I realized then what I was feeling: a moment of pure thankfulness on Thanksgiving Day.So many years have gone by since then. Still, that moment lives on in my heart like it was yesterday. It wasn't the food that made it so special. It was the coming together as a family in love. My Mom and Dad have passed on to Heaven now and my brothers and I don't see each other as much as I would like. Yet, I can still feel their love for me. I carry it always in my heart and soul.Thanksgiving isn't just a holiday that we celebrate once a year. It is a way of life. When we fill our hearts with thankfulness we open them to even more blessings from our Heavenly Father. When we fill our hearts with love we become the people we were always meant to be. And when we share that love with others we make this world what it was meant to be as well. May all of your days be full of Thanksgiving then. May all of your moments be full of Love!
