Why it's so hard to find the missing Titanic submersible | About That (744 views, 54 replies)
This story surpasses my brain sanity! 200000 to do what??? Some people have nothing to eat, species and nature fail to withhold their environmental sustainability, ( by mistake or intentionally) diseases are spread, which we fail to fight successfully. People are still sold as slaves, in bigger numbers and some folks pay to do this.... this is crap....Got nothing better to say.
@18635fdgd Are you suggesting that people should not enjoy the fruits of their labors? How is that any different from buying a Porsche or a Ferrari? Statistically speaking you have a greater chance to be killed in a supercar than in a submersible.
@JudgeDredd ok, you have 2 rich ppl, which supposedly (I have doubts, that being rich means you enjoy the fruits of ur labor) buy horses. One buys a sick horse and the other a good horse. Who's the stupid one? Is it of good sense what these ppl done? Snorkeling in Bahamas is much more interesting.
And there is one more parameter, important for ppl like me, can't take vow what other think about it in the same. If their riches were fruit of their labor indeed, they wouldn't disrespect their money like this. When I read bios of rich ppl that have worked hard all their life, they are very wise when spending money.
Reading lately statistics of accidents being more often and lethal to ppl bying super cars maybe is close to my thinking. I would buy a Ferrari only if the brand pays me to do so
@18635fdgd I really dont get your analogy with the horses. Everybody is running the same chance as everyone else of buying something that turns out to be a lemon. And that applies to all products and all buyers alike. That doesnt mean that finding yourself a lemon is a testament to stupidity.
In regards to the spending habits of rich people, you are assuming that there are only 2 categories of rich. The ones that worked for their money who know how difficult money is earned and the ones who land on money either because they inherit it or because they earned it too fast. But there is a third category which is none other than the stingy people. The ones like Warren Buffet who never spends more than $3.17 on breakfast, has the same wallet for the past 20 years, lives in the same house he bought in 1958 and once bought Bill Gates a lunch at McDonald’s with coupons.
I also wouldnt buy a Ferrari but for an entirely different reason than yours. ...

@JudgeDredd I am glad you have a very different opinion from me. As I said it would be very boring if we all were thinking alike!
@18635fdgd It sounds like victim blaming or shaming. These people need prayers and empathy. They are likely to die or have already. It saddens me to hear your opinion on this tragedy.
@💛Yellow_rose1💛 And what is ur opinion on this tragedy? To pray and have empathy? Which prays and empathy I consider as given for normal ppl towards others
@18635fdgd I don't really understand what you mean by normal people everyone deserves empathy and prayers. This was an unforeseen accident, like a faulty car, plane, helicopter. Did you feel the same way when Kobe Bryant died in his accident. Is he considered not to be a normal person. I'm really just trying to understand you logic. I'm not judging you in anyway
@💛Yellow_rose1💛 I mean that every normal person, like me you and others , I expect to feel empathy and pray to their Gods for deaths and ppl suffering. I understand by ur sayings that this was an unforeseen accident, like a faulty car, plane, helicopter. I strongly disagree and so are the most comments of this threat. We are talking about security considerations and why and if it should be this way. This is an opinion most have expressed here. I understand ur logic, I am sorry you don't understand mine.
@18635fdgd By saying it wasn't accidental that would mean that the operator of this vessel and the people on board meant to cause this situation. More security measures should have been taken, I agree with you there, but until the vessel is recovered it is all basically speculation on what went wrong.
@💛Yellow_rose1💛 I understand what you mean. By reading some in internet from experts it was very possible to happen. There were no licenses covering officially the expedition or however this can be called. And most of our arguments are upon this. I personally consider as stupid for these people to accept this and useless to engage military and naval services for such experiments. Meanwhile I consider the WWIII, which we all witness and not less important that the world economies have gone flat, we suffer disasters from weather conditions that may make everyone disappear or get caught in lethal weather phenomenon and more. Can't pray anymore for the victims dying unfairly around us, being manipulated or not, engaged in wars or not. I pray to be honest for enlightenment to ppl with power and money. Yes I get angry and furious and I curse on many leaders and rich people. It's their logic not compatible with mine and I think with ours, all of the ppl, as commoners. ...

@18635fdgd I just want to thank you for this discussion, it was informative and no insults were used as some people resort to when not agreed with. I like to hear people's opinions it is how we learn and grow no matter how old we are. I also understand your anger. I concur and have felt the same way at times
One problem is that submersibles are not classed as flagged vessels, just an accessory for the mother-ship, so there are no safety standards or inspections.
This tragedy might drive an update to the SOLAS treaty to cover submersibles.
Someone can make a container to sink 4km into one of the deeper ocean trenches for tourists to gawk at another tragic mistake, and charge $200k for a day trip, and no licensing or inspection then this will happen sooner or later.
Sad for the 5 people on board who are freezing and running out of air soon. I prefer to stay on the surface.
@Buttless How about when someone goes crazy and starts messing around and hitting others and himself against the machinery? Can u think something like the gun officers have in commercial vessels? One more member in the crew, black belt in martial arts and licensed bodyguard? I'd also would like to ask if u think honestly if too much cinema has influenced these ppl getting this trip, like I do ahahahahhahaha
@18635fdgd Sooo... you think they got in a fist fight 90min into the dive?
🤔 In what holy conspiracy hell did you find that doozey?)
@18635fdgd 100% correct def biasted AND could not understand a word of this last post? But hang in there, it'll probably come back to you eventually and clear up somewhat, like zits.
The billionaires wanted an up close view of the rusting hulk and got tangled up on some scrap - they are stuck there now, with only one game controller between them. Taking a ride in a homemade titanium coffin, the iPhone video will be fodder for the Netflix docudrama now being planned and out for the 20203 Fall season.
@BoonEvil This is rather distasteful, dont you think? Making fun of people in their last hours of life.
@JudgeDredd Rather boorish for you to write that comment in 2023, mores and tolerances have evolved in recent decades.
@BoonEvil Insensitivity and lack of respect is NOT evolution. Its a step back and certainly NOT something to be proud about
@JudgeDredd You pronounce me distasteful, and I my response elucidates, perhaps clarity of your initial intent, to flog me as insensitive and disrespectful. So be it.
Everyone is screaming for a search but no-one mentions the cost and who is paying for it.
If people want to take high-risk activities and pay heaps for the ticket, they should also take insurance for the rescue. The coastguard has ships and specialist planes doing a huge search, special equipment is being flown in, this will cost many millions of dollars and occupy the rescue services who are busy with their normal work.
Meh- I don´t know why the Internet goes beserk about some rich schmocks.
What else is there to say?
They wanted a thrill, they wanted to do something special, they got it.
If I had heaps of dough I too would want to visit places only a few (if any) have seen. I too would want bragging rights having been at effing Titanic.
I think they went down with an eery feeling, them "what if..." thoughts. Maybe hearing screeks and cracks, still clinging to the hope that they have safety somethings on board.
But no- they had to be locked in, zero chance of getting out by themselves.
Y´know, just because something works out ten times it doesn´t have to the eleventh.
There always will be THAT ONE TIME, when something is routinely done, it will go sideways. That´s just good, old Murphy for Ya.
Ask me how I know...
I feel, they just had it coming for them. Thousands of people die globally, no one gives a beep about them.
But just because some rich schmocks with a death wish got that granted there´s an outcry.

while any loss of life is tragic! I'm having a really REALLY hard time understanding why this particular event is, tragic?
They weren't even scientific pioneers! Now that would constitute as a legitimate tragedy!
Just on a joyride which had the worst possible outcome.
I certainly hope the families don't leave it up to the tax paying citizens to retrieve them, including even pictures.
They are wealthy enough to pursue a private investigation.
Will I fly Musk or Virgin Airways to the moon?
Nope, no way, I'm out!
@CollideDuhScope All deaths are tragic. This one has captured the public's attention on account of the remoteness of the area of the accident. Same deal as with the Everest and K2. An additional factor could be the ethical repercussions of the expeditions to the Titanic. Bob Ballard screwed up back in 1987 by not registering the wreck. He did it to protect the location and the sanctity of the event. Unfortunately somebody else managed to find it as well and they made a business out of it, turning it to a spectacle that went even so far as to organizing weddings on top of the bow of the Titanic. Perhaps now this madness will end.
P.S. I dont think that the bodies can be recovered at these depths. Its an exercise in futility.
@JudgeDredd Rediculous amount of assets on site already with armatured rovers that can dive that deep. They'll balloon/tow the collapsed sub-can to the surface.
*imho*
@(⌐■_■) Its highly unlikely the bodies are in the sub itself, judging from the extent of the debris field. And towing anything from that kind of depth is not without challenges. When they were salvaging K-129. a Russian nuclear submarine sunk 16,500 feet below the surface, the submarine broke into 3 pieces while it was being raised. On other deep sea salvage attempts, the most common problems include the towing line snapping on account of the load or the salvaged cargo being caught in an underwater current while being lifted.
@JudgeDredd The sub blew apart in pieces, you’re 100% correct JD. No bodies to recover.
I envisioned a collapsed can - like a physics experiment - entirely smooshed from all sides ‘equally’. Didn’t expect the implosion would result in an eXplosion that’d rip it to shreds?
But engineers describing differential material shrinkage, titanium end caps popping off a glue bonded graphine chamber, and repetitive use degradation… really does explain why it’s in pieces.
What in your opinion did they have the best possible outcome as far as death is concerned?
Hypothermia, lack of oxygen? Do all of above cause a sense of euphoria?
@CollideDuhScope Immediacy was the best possible outcome for them. They were killed before their brains even realised what was happening. They didnt have to suffer the agonizing death we all envisaged for them.
They goneski . Pop goes the u boat to a cloud of deep sea fish food.
A Treat È Speciale, Good night, sleep tight.
What I didn´t know when I wrote earlier: the darn CEO went down, too- spicey
I told Ya: they had it coming for them. And I love that Buttless video, thanks for finding and putting this gem for us poor sinners to enjoy.
A little more on how the thing was put together, the Guy sums it up nice.
It`s technical...
i dont get the ill will against these people? coz they have money and chose how to spend them?
some people with money also donate some of them, people are quick to judge
who wants to take a sub deep into the ocean, to bragg, curiosity?
Christoffer Columbus was crazy enough to cross an ocean?
why do people climb mount Everest?
why do people go in a tin can and FLY over the ocean? over the world?
we wouldnt be here, if not some humans been curious and exploring...
I have difficulty calling this a tragedy.
5 people knowingly took risks for thrills, and huge amounts of money have gone into the search and recovery.
At the same time a boat with 600 desperate people capsized in the Mediterranean and the coastguard watched. No-one knows their names.
That is a tragedy.

A submersible taking tourists to the wreck of the Titanic has disappeared. Andrew Chang breaks down what we know about the vessel, who's on board and what it’ll take to find it.
