On low resolution displays, like mobile phones, background images are invisible. We just need some space for useful content.

Just wanted to take a moment to say I like this site :) Folks who are in charge are ever so friendly and appear to want feedback and input from users....how very different from the other site which will remain nameless...(grin) Thanks everyone!

I don't know if anyone else would even want this, but if the large icons like Batman's or Stewie's were tiny and showed up in the borders, I'd choose more like those. No big deal, just wondering if there's any interest in such a tiny thing, pun INtended.
As it is, though, I love having the backgrounds - thanks so much to the creators, admins, etc.! Right now, I love my little foxes and butterflies.
