I love Chloë Grace Moretz but I didn't love this at all. I thought it was all over the place and kind of ridiculous. Usually she's in the best horror movies. I liked the beginning when you first see the monster I was like this is going to be good and somewhere in the middle of all the radio talking it got crazy.
I watched this movie with an open mind, and while it is not dire it is neither fantastic. The premise is a good one, even though part way through I was waiting for William Shatner to appear and shout out "there's something on the wing!"
While this isn't earth shattering cinema it is a pleasant way to spend a rainy few hours and forget about the world outside.
From a cinematic point of view, there are lots of wasted ideas and a silly plot which if it had been changed and lost the [SPOILER ALERT] the whole baby aspect fo the film and done something a bit grittier with it, it could have been a whole better ball game in my personal opinion.
So in a nutshell had potential until the gremlin got hold of it.
This is a pretty awesome movie. It is a fast paced survival horror/thriller about a gremlin sabotaging a WW2 airship that has turrets on the top and bottom, while being attacked by Japanese fighter planes.
The movie is focused on Chloe Moretz's character being trapped in the bottom turret, while she is fighting with the gremlin that's crawling around the outside of the plane, while she is also shooting at Japanese fighter planes. The movie kind of reminds me of titles like "Snakes On A Plane".
The movie had me on the edge of my seat throughout, and it was a pretty fun ride, even tho it felt a little short.
I think this is Chloe Moretz's best role since The 5th Wave, and Brain On Fire.
Overall, I give this movie an 8 out of 10.
I was looking forward to watching this film but afterword I came away thinking wtf. So many of the scenes were ridiculous and hard to believe. About 70% of the action sequences are truly fantastical. I mean really [SPOILER]crawling on the outside underneath of the bomber while it is in mid air was just unbelievable. Maude Garret does a good job as the heroine but the story does not do her acting justice. I wanted to believe in the character of Chloë Grace Moretz as the only female role in the entire film but that ending was just too much. I mean, [SPOILER]after playing heroine throughout the entire movie then to beat the monster to death and then in the same breath sit on a rock to breast feed her daughter was just too much. This is a watchable movie, and if you can get passed the pumped up heroine character then you might just like it. For me though, this was just too much horse-poohy.
If she was a different actress I would not even give 5 stars. Just love her ( Chloe Moretz)
1st 20 /30 min of the movie can be boring then it pick up with ridiculous scenes.
OMG..... I don't even know what to say.
I read the reviews and thought, ok, interesting film...worth a watch.
I beg to differ - did any of you "reviewers" actually watch the film?
It is entertaining, to the point of laughing at the ridiculousness of some of the "action" towards the end and the
5/10 for entertainment
10/10 for ridiculous [SPOILER] inverted flying of a B17....!?! and, and, and...!?!
This really should be classified as a fantasy - just dumb.....
Certainly different, and wort5h the watch
A fun movie. It has several scenes in it that are absolutely unbelievable as in they could not physically happen in the real world but this isn't Schindler's List, it's more Bill and Ted. It's fun, so just have fun with it.
So glad I watched this alone. Otherwise My family would never let me forget I actually sat to the end. what a eyepopper for the ridiculous yet while it was so off beat found myself having to watch to the bitter end. Sure not what I could rate as a great movie but it was certainly a different screwed up best mess of one I have seen ever. Nothing to compare with the ending The brand new wonder women coming out of the ashes into stardom Who could not watch all this without wondering if it really was suppose to be that comedy. One for me to forget in a hurry.
Lots of sexism at the start which is expected during that time, but it got annoying and uncomfortable even for me. It was especially frustrating watching a bunch of unfit whiny soldiers ignoring the only competent one of the group. I guess that succeeds in promoting strong female roles in the history of the war, but I think they should've done so without the presence of the [SPOILER]gremlin. It takes away the seriousness of the film especially since they showed actual videos and pictures in the credits of female soldiers during WW2 (which obviously didn't involve fantasy creatures).
As far as realism goes, this defies physics, engineering, and every realistic aspect you could think of. One time watch, just to see Chloe Moretz back.
That was fun, a little silly here and there, but no so much as to hurt the fun.
Great, quick, one timer. Girl poweresque, but it is the twenty-first century after all.
My (NO SPOILER) New-years day 2021 Pick is
'Shadow in the Cloud' 7.5/10

The Good: I have no doubt this film will be nominated for best score the music from start to finish is phenomenal a 'Stranger Things' kinda vibe mixed with moments that felt like 50's swing being as though the movie takes place in 1954. The film is meant to be a comic style Mashup of horror, action with a tad of pulpy mystery as the film gives a nod to 'Pulp Fiction' and from the second you see a full shot of Chloe you get that good feeling you may be in for a fun ride. And then it's confirmed The film starts off great for the first 30 mins. Maybe even 45 and no I'm not saying the end wasn't great because it was, the last 30 mins. Was pure gold.. Classic cult fans will emerge. Also The writer Director Liang big in New Zealand first international action horror film has everyone asking who will she join DC or Marvel for expanding this film series is a pretty big deal.
The Bad: (Which is the reason I dropped a point 7.5/10) Now listen to me clearly I'm not saying the film was too over the top because I enjoy very creative unbelievable films but they can't be CORNY.. What do I mean? 1.Avoid cringing! There was a 10 minute scene where it was way too hard to watch. Everything is on point and then the character doesn't say something for 10 mins. Just clearly acting stupid and then the action goes from watching the female version of Tom Cruise in MI6 to Roger 🐇 Rabbit in the span of 10 seconds and it's hard to watch especially if your invested into the story as I was and then a bad green screen shot throws you for a low quality loop and I was literally just holding my head to the side because it was like Yeh all of this theoretically could really happen and then boom The comic side of it goes a little too far and you feel like a 4 year old hoping the film can get back to just a little more reality.. LISTEN I didn't make the rules Liang Did. It's up to the writers to set our Visual guidelines of the 🌎 world they create and abide by them. For instance random example if a person can get shot and bleed you wouldn't have them walk through an explosion and not get burnt. Unless you specifically stated something to that effect. Those are things that come off as corny scene fillers to stretch but ultimately lower a films appeal. Like I will believe she can fight 5 karate styles, speak 50 languages and fly a Space shuttle but what she's doing with her pinky finger. don't push it.. Unless she's Wonder Woman.
BUT OVERALL: this film was highly entertaining you will enjoy and hopefully start a really great year. Read moreLess
