@alicefell In a further addendum to the addition (a lot double DDs! LOL), the basis for Monsieur Spade, if you don't know, is Hammett's book (and some short stories), The Maltese Falcon (1930). The movie was released in 1947 with Bogart as Spade:

The character of the femme fatale in Falcon, Brigid O'Shaughnessy, is an important reference in EP1 of Monsieur Spade. Also, catch when Sam Spade tells the French Chief of Police about something "Miles used to say..." Miles Archer is Spade's PI partner in The Maltese Falcon. Poor Miles.
I tell ya, nothing good ever came from Miss O'Shaughnessy.
